I am currently working on my BSW, and have spent days plowing through my university catalog trying to make sure I am on the right career path to find a job in the field of social work in higher education, I feel like this video was made for me! Thanks so much for putting it out!
Thank you so much for this video! I’m starting my MSW program next month and I wanted to know more about Social Workers in Higher Education. You’ve answered so many questions that I’ve had. Thank you again!
This is the exact career resource I’m looking for! You’ve put words to so many of the thoughts and career aspirations I’ve had. Social workers in the K-12 school system is so established but not super established on college campuses. We are so needed. THANK YOU!!!
This was a great video! Very informative and helpful to hear about the different options available. I have my bachelors in psychology but detoured into nursing for a while. Now I’m looking to make the switch back into psych/social work sort of careers. Thank you so much for this video!
Bless you for this information! I have my BA in Psych currently pursuing my MSW for licensure. Can you speak on any hospital/ government roles there are. Thank you!
this was a great video! It helps me feel more at ease with my options as I’m graduating with my Bachelors in Human Services (Mix of social work and psychology) and considering entering higher education. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for going over the different departments and offices where we can have opportunities. I’m not a social worker, but my BS is in Child and Family studies. I started geeking geeking out when I heard you talk about macro and micro!! I have my MA in education but not in higher ed. I was teaching English abroad and would love to teach in the US as an adjunct but I don’t have a PhD. I’m interested in the freshman seminar/ first-year experience types of courses. I didn’t consider working with a study abroad office either...I can’t wait to start networking and learning more about these different areas once I start working. Thanks so much for sharing this info with us!!
Macro is so often forgotten about, I made sure to include it! lol Oh wow your skills can definitely land you an adjunct position, you don't need a PhD. I know adjuncts that only have Bachelors degrees. It depends on the institution, experience and course subject. So glad it was helpful!
I just started my MSW and hoping to continue serving and supporting students in higher education. I appreciate all the informative information and breaking down each career path available to us in Higher Ed. Continue to shine. Thank you!!!
It’s a great environment..glad it was helpful! I took a class on it in grad school as an elective but if you’re out of school some ppl have workshops on it
I’m currently a social worker and I’m already burnt out and ready to move on to higher education as I’ve been planning for the last few years. Do you have tips or career field recommendations for people who are introverted? I want to work in higher education, but I would prefer to work behind the scenes and still make an impact.
When you say introverted, in what capacity do you mean? Do you want to work 1:1 or not with people at all? There’s positions for both but just wanted some clarity.
@@LifeCoachYvette To be honest, I don’t want much contact with people. Working in social work has kind of turned me off from it being so draining. I’m a huge empath and I really struggle with balancing my emotions. So, I prefer a position in higher education that will allow me to kind of do my own thing.
Advising is very much doing your own thing but you do interact with students, just not in an emotional way. It's very solution focused..what do you need and how can I help you lol but if you do not want to interact with people at all I would recommend a position in the registrar's office, they deal with making sure students meet guidelines and requirements to graduate behind the scenes. They do the final degree audit and a lot of other things. I would highly recommend booking a coaching session so I can help you to explore more of your interests.
Hey Yvette! Giving that you have a MSW and work in higher education can you speak to how having this background is very helpful. Would having your LMSW be helpful in higher education?
Hi Randall! Depending on the position, t's not necessary but definitely helpful for opening doors. For example, as an Academic Advisor, I did not need it but I missed a part time opportunity through an ESL program for immigrants that required it. Yes, I can speak on that in another video.
Yvette! That would be great! I definitely, have been on the search for more RUclips videos that talk about MSW/ LMSW professionals in the field of higher education.
Ah yes I could see those things being annoying but not too terrible, typical pains of office life. Thanks for the insight! It sounds like an awesome career!

Glad it was helpful! There's so much you can do in this field. If you like the hospital setting, consider travel medical social work.

Wow social work is such a wide variety. I wanted to get into social work years ago but couldn’t really figure out exactly what I wanted to do 😩
There is! I had no idea how broad it was when I was in school and even after. There's a lot more information out now.

Which department are you interested in?
Great content!
Thank you! :)
I think I’d be most interested in academic advising. How long have you been in this field? Is there anything you dislike about it?
5 years! umm probably learning new systems to put in notes, appts, etc. Also, the influx of emails during the busy times can be overwhelming.
Ah yes I could see those things being annoying but not too terrible, typical pains of office life. Thanks for the insight! It sounds like an awesome career!
This is very useful information 👏👏As a social worker, this is helpful for me❣️❣️💜
