  • Pilot Slick 67in
Just had it's maiden flight, and had a major issue with the Motor box extension supplied with the kit...
I was in the middle of my third flight and decided to do a crankshaft maneuver and wow what a violent crankshaft it was it literally ripped the front off the motorbox!!!!
I had to do a emergency dead stick landing full down and flare out last seconds..I got away with it!!! was very very lucky.
...please if you buy one of these models they come with a very weak extension motor box for electric setup instead of petrol engine setup...and OMG there a weak link in an otherwise extremely well built kit...be warned please use the supplied balsa fillets which coincidentally where meant to reinforce the motor box for the petrol engine can you believe it...I think Pilot need to also say you need to use these to reinforce the electric motor box too!!!!
Love the plane and to be honest I should have super glued every joint beforehand just to be on the safe side....I usually do.
I'm still surprised though at how little glue was on the motorbox joints and the fact they used only PVA!!! on such a stressful area of the plane and not superglue.
Don't let that put you off buying one there an amazing plane to fly with some fabulous New ideas...
If anyone from pilot RC watch this
thank you for building an amazing plane...just please make the motorbox stronger.😀
I'm no expert but I felt I had to make this video to help someone else and the fact it's still in one piece!!!!
There's a lot to like about the Pilot Slick
    THE GOOD
    1. Quick canopy install...love it
    2. Quick wing install
    3. Wing SFG quick install....nice and easy.
    4.Cowl fastening points
    5. Wheel pants fastening amazing
    6. landing reinforcement along the fusalage with aluminium Genius idea so rigid and strong.
    7. Air exit holes are stylish
    8. Colour scheme .. gorgeous
    9. Robart hinges ...fab
    10.Wheel waterproof...don't hold water...ace
    11. receiver tray ...perfect location
12 tiller tail wheel spring just the correct amount of tension in my opinion...
    THE BAD
    1. Tiller tail wheel arm is weak...snapped off.
    THE UGLY
    1. The Motorbox extension is too weak!!!
😎 My happy place at the field flying the Pilot Slick 67in

Ok wow, im definitely using 0.8mm carbon plates on either side of eletric motor box! My servos are Mks 9767 and works a treat. I went the Ga2000 and I should have went for ga2000r. I'll be using a 19x7. Thanks for sharing.

Hi there, MKS 9767 are very very good servos. They are incredibly reliable, infact I've just bought some more MKS 637's
I would go with the 18 X 10 prop on the Dualsky It's seems to be what EVERYONE uses...don't want you to burn your motor out.
Highly recommend the APC I've tried both wood and APC and the APC Poptops way way better!!!
Yeah definitely definitely definitely reinforce the motorbox I use carbon rods now all the way through the bigger firewall... I've had 6 67in planes now!
I really don't like the Dualsky motor mount.. I've ended up using 2 ALUMINIUM plates with the bolts screwed in from behind the firewall much stronger and you don't have the issues of the 3mm bolts breaking.👍

For those of us who plan on running internal combustion engines, do you think this is the right airframe?

Hi there... I've had 6 of these planes all electric . Not had IC ...but from all the comments I've read about under powered with ic I suppose with that in mind I wouldn't recommend it...electric is fabulous once you get the set up right but expensive for all the lipos and charger and PSU...I get why folk would want to go IC
I think the engines are quite heavy too compared to electric motors

I just got the yellow one yesterday. My standard servos are too big.. Are you using mini servos? What servos are you using? Did you have to cut the openings?

Hi there, the standard servos will fit but you'll have to cut the holes bigger plus there heavier than the mini servos😉, I use MKS 9767 there 35mm long by 15mm wide and weigh about 20g less than standard size servos which IMO is quite a lot once you times it by 4 servos. I also use some GDW Heli servos I bought of ALI EXPRESS which are really good too, High voltage and fast. The yellow pilot I think is the Laser ...which is a few inches longer than the Slick I like the shorter length of the Slick because it fits in my VW Golf nicely. 👍 btw the mini servo will fit straight in with no modifications

@@davidhall4398 Thank you for the reply. I am a Horizon Hobby team member and I am going with the Spektrum HV5070 servos that are 33mm x 15mm. They will fit perfect and save that weight. My 6300hv servos are too big, and they will weigh down the tail. It sucks how they mention a pull pull rudder on the Pilot website, but it only comes set up for pushrods. I was not impressed with the motor mount either. I just reinforced it, and used epoxy to attach it. It’s still not an Extremeflight. It is better than they used to be though. Cheers!

@@CoeShow619 your welcome... Yeah definitely good idea to keep rear as light as possible if your not using the pull/pull setup. I've had about 300 flights on mine now and just had a power failure and broke the landing gear area...gutted and annoying because all new equipment including battery motor ESC and receiver, the only thing I can think off was overheated due to hot conditions.
