I've gotten lots of comments about the music before and at the end of videos. Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately I don't have the raw footage any more and can't fix the videos, but trust me that future videos won't have the same problem.
Seriously? I am just glad that Dan is taking the time to share this information with us. Most writers would have tried to market this kind of literary advice. Fortunately, here we are on youtube watching it for free.
Whoa, never thought I'd see Matt Colville's name up on the screen when I'm watching one of my favorite authors teach me about 7 point plot structure! Worlds collide!
"Brandon Sanderson, he's a fantasy writer you may have heard of." I'm pretty sure this is exactly how Dan would say that today, only he'd be grinning and the crowd laughing.
Agreed, but it does eventually fade out. I have sensory processing disorders and wicked sensitive hearing (short version: my central nervous system is busted) and have to forego MANY videos with blocking music through the entirety of the video. (WHY do people do this?) At least for these, it stops so we can focus on what's being said.
Watching this in 2021, already an established writer, but there is something about this that makes me want to learn from scratch again. Such good content. ❤️
Intro's over at 2:35. From there on, I see similarities with K.M. Weiland's approach, so I'm curious to see where the two methods will deviate. Good video! I'll definitely watch the rest of the series.
Great information. I've watched these videos numerous times, because it always helps to remind myself of the awesome way that Dan breaks down story structure.
I friggin shouted when I saw his name there! Forgot he was a part of that book. How awesome is it these writers can connect (even indirectly)! The trust I have in Matt Colville gives me even more motivation for trying out this story structure 😊
This is good. I'm a big writing excuses fan... but I would say that John Truby's 7 steps are a little more precise. He also has a 22 step structure which can follow the 7, but it's pretty full on!
VERY insightful! I can see how a lot of these points can be applied to my own book, and how doing so during my revision process could drastically improve my book! Going straight to part 2! >:D
Discovery vs Outline writers. I was watching one video where they forced discovery writers to use outlines and outline writers to use the discovery method in order to improve their writing. I guess I've always been a discovery writer because I'd use notebooks and if I didn't just start I didn't fill the whole notebook up.
Yes the music lasts too long. I still get all the information that I need from the videos, and it's not quite that annoying to me. I suspect it's not nearly as annoying to you as you would have us all believe. It's a free video on RUclips. Thank you to the person who posted!
Apart from the fact that maybe one should actually say factually true things about the plot of the examples one is using, this is definitely good advice.
Gabe, as I say in the video, this system is not mine; I did not make it up, and therefore no one can steal it from me. It's a common technique which I assume Cathy is also drawing on for her books. I know you're trying to help, and I appreciate that, but angry attacks and crass name-calling are not the way I want to be represented online. Your language is out of line, and I encourage you to apologize to Cathy. Note: I do not use gmail, so this is a new account I set up to respond here.

Thanks for acknowledging it..!
Have an excellent day
I actually like the music. What is it called?

Been struggling understanding how to outline. He said “your resolution is not the end, it’s the climax” and it finally makes sense.
This playlist is a precious treasure. Thanks so much!
Watching this again, 2 years after it was recorded, and a month after seeing it live at LTUE 2012. It's that good, and motivating. Thanks Dan.

Leto85 Thankyou very useful every time I rewatch thid

It took me a whole Year and hundreds hours of writing to understand this fully.
I loved this. Much needed. I have done most of my writing by gut feel and needed this structure. Better books from me in the future.
This is wonderfully useful. I can't wait to apply these three ideas to my story idea. Thank you for your wisdom.
Holy crap. Never expected to see DM Matt Colville listed in there! 2:51 The dude's a river to his people.
I friggin shouted when I saw his name there! Forgot he was a part of that book. How awesome is it these writers can connect (even indirectly)! The trust I have in Matt Colville gives me even more motivation for trying out this story structure 😊
literally just finished your first book; this was then followed by a google search which lead me to the above video, 1 down 4 to go.
2:49 nice surprise to see Matt Colville here
Very informative and insightful. Thanks! I'll check out that recommended book in the description.

Arthur Landon the more precise, the less accurate.
I like all 5 parts of this talk. Will be watching the matrix soon.
Thank you for posting this, the content is very helpful.

Unfortunately we can't. I no longer have the original video, and can't edit the music out.
Fabulous!! Thanks so much for this !

Great personality and info. Screw the negative people.
This is really great content but that music being jackhammered over the top of the sound is so annoying I want to headbutt the wall.

My notes on this, for those that can't deal with the intro/outro: pastebin.com/KaXrUTkN
Very helpful Abca Def, thank you! :)
That's great! Thank you!
You fucking win the internet, that's great. Thanks for doing this!
It would be great if this was in 7 parts
Is it just me, or are most horror writers actually really funny in real life?
Thanks so much; I appreciate it! And thanks for watching the channel!
Glad you're liking the video and enjoyed the book.
Love these videos
This was great very helpful.
found this to be both helpful and interesting thank you
Important things to go back on.

Can we lose the music background? Don't need it.
Dude is interesting and all, but I wish he’d shut up so I can hear the music.
09:18 - Music comes back in. Hell yeah.
awesome thank you.
Nice intro
Is there a transcript for this available?
Talk starts at 0:30

2:54 The secret sauce...
I'm not sure. I'll have to take a look. I'll let you know probably in a day or two.

A point of order on your production. Your music, if that is what you call it, is supposed to be completely faded down by the time you start speaking!
