Great play Doug. I try so hard every time to study this but my arthrosis in my fingers won't let me do the job as you do. But pain and stiffness won't prevent me to go on. Now I am 65 and playing lapsteel Hawaiian guitar from my 14 th. Pedal steel from my 55 th. I guess you are one of the best players and I learn a lot of you. I want to thank you for your lessons. My advice : never stop playing because this is such a great instrument. Hope to hear more from you and take much care about Corona. Bless you
Thanks Peter, I wouldn't worry too much about playing what others are playing. Just find your own style and have fun with it. By the way, I just turned 70 and I'm still at it. Fortunately, no arthritis yet! I was 66 when I made the Powerglide video. Thanks again! 😄
Beautiful demonstration. After examining 'lap' steel guitar and finding how difficult it is I am always totally impressed by how simple it looks when played by a 'pro' like this. I realize that peddle steel guitar like this one ads even more variations and for me it's just a brain overload! Probably won't live long enough to learn to play anywhere close to this....but I'm having fun learning anyway....
Doug, wow! Mind blowing licks. Love that little run and the smooth clean articulate picking. You rock. I need way more attention to pick like that. At 73 I'm probably at my peak. Love it.
Thanks! I appreciate it. That speedpicking run is similar to the “3-string, 1 pedal” pattern that Weldon Myrick and Hal Rugg played and taught back in the 70s and 80s.
Thanks, it's kind of like picking a banjo... just pick! And I use "pick blocking", the technique of dampening the strings with the picks. I've had lots of practice and bandstand time with the pedal steel... 50 years. 😊
this rendition comes to mind when i'm frantic hurrying up in the morning and grabbing everything in one hand before heading out the door and locking up with only the keys in the other hand. then forget something
No, I don't have a B to Bb change. Standard 3x4. For this song I only use pedals A & B and two knee levers: lower E's to D# and raise E's to F. No vertical lever. When you see me raise my left knee, I'm just pressing down on pedal A and lifting my heel off the floor. Thanks for checking it out. 😎
Good stuff Doug. I'd like to play it as well. Can you share just the chromatic lick at the start. The run down is not as bad to decipher. Thanks in advance. Larry Toliver
That run is very similar to Weldon Myrick's run in Hot Foot. That is tabbed out in Jimmie Crawford's book, A Manual of Style. The run is also similar to Emmons Co.'s ""Amazing one pedal, two finger, three string Song", tab may still be out there, not sure.
Oh man that hit the spot! I wanna buy one 8strings E9th with 2 pedals and no levers...I wonder if I would still be able to play C6 stuff. Will an E69 mess the pedals up? I am confused...please shed some light! Cheers, -Marco-
If you buy a pedal steel, get a 10-string, E9 tuning, 3 pedals and at least 4 knee levers. When you press two pedals down the open tuning becomes A6, very close to C6.
You mentioned an 8-string pedal steel guitar. The standard for pedal steel is 10-strings. I would go with a 10-string pedal steel. For Non-pedal steel, I like either 6 or 8 string. Check out www.steelguitarforum.com for more info and discussions.
Doug Beaumier Rhode island steel meeting(a few years ago now) you played your Emmons standing up and lent forward I have the pics somewhere ....... and I won half the door money but never got to play as T.Cass and I came a bit late... good memories.
Aww man my S-10 needs a mechanic! Frustrating. Anyone know a good Emmons tech in the Los Angeles area? Thanks so much for this inspirational kick in the butt video!
Rick Roche ...You might want to check out Jim Palenscar @ Steel Guitars of North County. He is in the San Diego area and might be able to help you out with your Emmons. If you need something for your steel, he could probably make it if he can't find it.
Not only is it really good playing, I just like listening to the song as a piece of music. It makes me think of German folk music, which I'm sure there's some which incorporates the steel guitar. There has to be. :)
Wow! I’ve watched this 6 times and still want more. Fabulous technique and tone! Thanks for posting!
Thanks! I'm glad you like it.
This is ridiculously good playing! Each video of yours that I watch just seems to get better and better!

Doug, I have seen some other steal guitar player videos and you are by a good margin, the best on RUclips. Solid consistent, precise and flawless.
Much thanks! I appreciate it. 😊👍🎅
Nice doug. I've always loved this melody and you tore it up here!
Gonna have to learn this one when I get my MSA D10 9x8 legend. :)

Brilliant! 0:28 love that move. I'm sure you did that on the organ machine video too. Sounds ace.
Thanks Steven. I'm glad you like it!

Love 💕 it!
JIM🎉
Yes, all from memory. Thanks for watching. 😊
Sounds great, Doug!
Thanks, Lee!
Halo my friend. This was nice. Wish you a wonderful weekend….
Thank you! 😊👍
Wow!
Thanks for checking it out! 😎
i totally love this song, shared it with my cousin who is also a musician and his brain exploded. Is this song yours?
Thanks, yes it's something I put together a few years ago. Glad you like it!
this rendition comes to mind when i'm frantic hurrying up in the morning and grabbing everything in one hand before heading out the door and locking up with only the keys in the other hand. then forget something
That works for me! Thanks for listening. 😊👍
Doug, are you using a LKV lever that lowers your B string to Bb or is this a straight 3x4 Nashville setup?
No, I don't have a B to Bb change. Standard 3x4. For this song I only use pedals A & B and two knee levers: lower E's to D# and raise E's to F. No vertical lever. When you see me raise my left knee, I'm just pressing down on pedal A and lifting my heel off the floor. Thanks for checking it out. 😎
Nice job Doug.... Thanks!
Thanks for listening!

Thanks in advance.
Larry Toliver
Thanks Larry, The beginning part involves the 2nd string Lower 1/2 step and pedals A & B. It's similar to Weldon Myrick's pattern in "Hot Foot".
😀 Great to listen. I search for a pedal steel teacher her in germany.
Thanks! 😃
buenisimooooooooooo
😎👍🙏🎅
Tremendo..me encanta..
awesome doug !
Thanks Karen!
This is great stuff! Please tab that run for us!
Thanks Doug! i will try to find it!
Not easy! Kudos
😊 Glad you dig it!

Very nice!
I'm glad you like it!
In 1885, a young Hawaiian man picked up a railroad spike, slid it across the neck of his guitar, and made history.
Yes, his name was Joseph Kekuku. He became a musician and he toured the US and Europe with his Hawaiian band.
@Doug Beaumier thanks to him, the Hawaiian guitar became one of the main instruments in country music.
Oh man that hit the spot! I wanna buy one 8strings E9th with 2 pedals and no levers...I wonder if I would still be able to play C6 stuff. Will an E69 mess the pedals up? I am confused...please shed some light! Cheers, -Marco-

Doug Beaumier thanks for the reply. Budget is always tge unwanted Master and Tyrant. Thank very much. I have been looking into this for months now.

The British Steel Player Melvin Duffy is by far the best of em all.!
Hey Doug, that's a bit flash :) now lets see you do it with that stand up and lean the guitar forward thing you do lol.... nice picking enjoyed that.
Thanks John, I'm getting too old for that stand-up routine! Cheers
Doug Beaumier ...I saw Jason Aldean's steel guy do that on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Was that you by any chance?
Thanks, John! Ah, I'm too old for the standup routine! Thanks for checking out the video.
Wasn't me.
Doug Beaumier Rhode island steel meeting(a few years ago now) you played your Emmons standing up and lent forward I have the pics somewhere ....... and I won half the door money but never got to play as T.Cass and I came a bit late... good memories.
Doug could you share what equiptment you are playing thru Thanks
Sure, a Black Box (tube filter), Hilton volume pedal, Holy Grail Reverb, Peavey Nashville 112 amp. Thanks for listening.

Is this little tune an Etude of some kind?
It’s just something I made up.
Not only is it really good playing, I just like listening to the song as a piece of music. It makes me think of German folk music, which I'm sure there's some which incorporates the steel guitar. There has to be. :)
Thanks for listening. I’m glad you like it 😎
fucking crazy
Yeah!
Slick Pickin' Could you tab that out and send it to me I'd pay for it of course
Free tab for the speedpicking part on my web site/blog: playsteelguitar.com/speedpicking-e9-pedal-steel-guitar-powerglide/
Really must stop watching your uploads. I feel so damn useless and incapable.
Still magic tho'.
