- They're packing enough sheer oomph to blow up your VCR, they're delivering turbocharged roars fit to wake the dead and they're barely restrainable as they rev up on the asphalt--and that's just the presenters. Oh yeah, there's a bunch of cars, too, not to mention some boats and planes and ice-racing and stuff. The BBC's Top Gear is of course the grandmother of all motoring programmes and here the irrepressible Tiff Needell tries out some formidable cars from TVR, BMW, Ferrari, Nissan, Subaru, Porsche, Jaguar, Aston Martin and others.
Tiff was always in a class of his own! If "the stigs" had a body/personality, Tiff would be it lol
He was the stig for a few episodes I believe,just before or after Ben Collins I believe

Watched this 50x+ as a kid… all the Tiff and Clarkson VHS’s… my childhood!
Amazing how simple life & cars was back then. Now everything's complex.
I have a jag xkr with a smaller pulley a tune, no cats, because it's legal where I live and a over drive pulley and liquid damped balancer. It lays down 614 hp 643 tq and I've been hammering on it quite a lot and haven't had any issues with it at all. I didn't think it would hold up this well and now has almost 180 thousand miles on it. An absolute blast.
It's funny how this version of top gear is easily the best version of old top gear and it came right at the end
The best presenters can return again in the same format. It would still be a success..
Watching in 2019, and still dope as hell...

Don’t think tiff did a car review back in the 90’s that didn’t involve him either walking out of a big house and/or putting golf clubs in the boot of whatever he was driving 😂
Can i just say, MclF1 is the very last, of the very best *real* supercars.
Also... some say that he sleeps nights in the outside lane of M25, in a Lancer Evo VI, doing hands-free speed.
All we know is, he's called the Tiff.

I like how he appreciated all the cars and talked positive about them and respected them and categories they were in..he didn't make fun of them and take them out of their element and break them down in a bad way.
I always liked when Tiff got the car and drove it to the limit
Man it's crazy how old general footage from 2000 looks compared to just a few years later, e.g. even around 2003 or 2004.
I've noticed the first few years of any decade arw a holdover from the previous decade. Look at early 90s stuff, people still have 80s haircuts. It's really fascinating once you notice this, you can't stop seeing it.

Damn it, dude can drive...what miraculous times when Top Gear was all about cars and not about some infantile shenanigans...I mean, I love me some shenanigans but not when it comes to supercars.
It can really be much more entertaining to watch someone like Tiff smiling and telling stuff while driving 180 mph, than 3 guys sleeping in a car rubbing cheese on it. They are completely different and I like the old TG more.

From all the cars I've chosen one and that's the bmw m5 e39 it's my all time favourite car and still will be today. It's a car that never had anything wrong with it th design was spot on and front was beautifully crafted. Alot better then new bmws.

Having driven and worked on them, They weren’t that great. They had a lot of old tech under the skin/ interior.
the e34 was a better M5, and so was the e46 m3. And those didn’t look like a Caprice had sex with a Lincoln LS.

Going that speed in a straight line takes a lot of things to line up, but on a simple track it takes a a lot more engineering and a ton of skill.

Same here. We are lucky enough to enjoy the last of internal combustion engine. I will be in my mid 40s by the time EV completely takes over the world and it’s ok,I enjoyed 25 years of awesome cars

In the UK, they tried really hard to bring political correctness in but it was stomped on hard. They tried to do what we are seeing now in modern entertainment: having women act like men and men act like women. In the 90s it was called "girl power" and "new men"/"metrosexual".

i love top gear and fifth gear. i wish american tv would do this kind of car show instead of all the crap they do now. either crap reality shows with little car focus and even less substance, or half-hour infomercials with little car-lover indulgence. even american top gear quickly fell off the wagon and straight into the stinkpile. oh, and we get car auctions, and bts shows about the car auctions. tyvm. Was that an s52 or s54 m roadster? Cuz idk how much either euro spec made but I'd assume more than we got in the US. Also the VR4 3000GT was and I believe still is the only vehicle ever to be turbo, awd, 4WS, active aero, active suspension vehicle. And you could even get a convertible with all that

Ik its 2 years old lol. TVRs are practical but the ergonomics aren't. You can leave a TVR with the doors unlocked and nobody would steal them cause bruh, the buttons to open the door inside are unlabeled and in an odd place 😂. Useful that.

Does anyone know the episode featuring the Reliant Scimitar where Tiff Needell talks about the GTE?. I know it's from 2000 but no idea what month it was shown in or what episode it's from. I have the recording with some of the remaining where Jason Barlow tests the new Audi A4 but there's no date on the recording. Had a look on the BBC Genome site but can't find with the Scimitar in any episode from that year, though I have a feeling it could be from 2nd November 2000. There used to be an upload which was uploaded from the owners club, but was taken down by youtube.

Yeah. This is a pretty common opinion as well from what I can tell. It's a shame the 355 is such a nightmare to maintain. It requires an engine-pull practically every oil change. The 360 is better from a total ownership experience perspective. The 430 uses standard size tires and is pretty rock solid for a supercar. That would be my pick. The 458 is probably the most beautiful Ferrari since the 355, and its prices will remain astronomical. The 488 is meh.
