    Love the satchel. Only "problem" is the large capacity, I've often put to much into it and got back pain from the unequal distribution of weight. Not a fault of the satchel, just getting old. Long story short, I got me a Vaude Rom IIs for the small stuff and if I might need to carry more I do grab a backpack.

    Another vote for the Savotta Jaakari - the only pack I've ever used that simply won't die no matter what I do to it. If you need a pack that will probably survivie the heat death of the universe, look no further. You could probably run over this pack with an entire tank division and it wouldn't care.

    Well now, though I certainly don't have the number of bags/packs as the King of the Moorlands, there are several here. For my personal preference, I lean towards smaller bags for the essential items I need to carry into my woods that surrounds my home. I suppose I still adhere to the old Ranger saying. "Travel light. Freeze at night.".😬
    One pack, that I use often is a 3/4 scale size of the old ALICE Medium, minus the frame. Simple OD green canvas duck, with non-detachable shoulder straps. Actually, it's quite handy for my needs. Or a simple satchel bag in my favorite camo, Tiger Stripe!😉
    And of course, being "an older chap", I can no longer go great distances, nor carry large amounts of gear. So, it's short trips. Light gear. And then off to a nap.😴

    Bags are one of the primary great inventions on the path of human development as tool users. The first invention or tool was the stick and possibly the bag was second. Both essential tools for hunter gatherers.
    Maybe you should start a bag museum to document this great invention. 😁

    • @MoorlanderEDC
      @MoorlanderEDC  8 месяцев назад +1

      Mrs Moorlander would argue I have already started a bag museum 😆
      I've done a lot of self reflection and thought a lot about my love of bags and watches. Living it the Moorlands in the 80s my mum and dad would worry at all about seeing me disappear into the fields for a day of adventuring. I always had two things with me. My mum would lend me her wrist watch and trust that I could time myself so my brother and I would be home when she asked. My dad would always have a bag that I could take out too. As long as it held some sandwiches, a bottle of pop, and then generally some rope for climbing trees my brother and I though we were Scott of the Antarctic. Every adventure should have a bag 🖖

    • @paulgee6111
      @paulgee6111 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@MoorlanderEDC Crikey you were extremely well equipped even then. I generally only had my trusty stick which was essential for poking down holes and wading in brooks and rivers and we foraged off the land by scrumping apples and suchlike. Never had a watch til I was older but when the sun started to sink in the sky we knew it was time to head home for tea.

    Great video sir. Love my Jakarri like it was my adopted son and I do agree that it is the most bombproof piece of gear that I own. However… have you ever slid a pack from Hill People Gear over your shoulders? The yoke style harness they have designed defies the laws of physics! By far the most comfortable pack on the market in my opinion even under loads that I would never consider carrying in any of my other packs. Give them a look.

    • @MoorlanderEDC
      @MoorlanderEDC  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely take a look. I know their gear but haven't had the opportunity to try one. Is there a specific model you recommend?

    • @timleverre5022
      @timleverre5022 8 месяцев назад

      I went with the Ute plus the Prarie belt. Love it. Disperses the weight between hips and shoulders perfectly. The smaller day packs (Tarahumara) and pockets they sell also marry up to the larger packs perfectly, giving you a modular system that separates when needed. Leaving the main pack at camp and taking the day pack for quick hikes around your location. Can’t speak highly enough of HPG’s gear. Hard on the wallet but unbelievably easy on the back.

    A three bag full of stats but have you put them on a field test.? You should actually thus make you sound less of a salesman & more of a product tester. Thought we throw that out there mate. Still love the bloopers. Cheers from Australia.

      Oh fo shizzle. The Satchel has been field tested for the last 4 years of ownership. Travelled with it, vacationed with it, used it everyday and some. The Savotta has carried my gear for the last 18 months as well. From a couple of sandwiches and bottle of pop, all the away to camera gear, tripod and filming equipment and been carried all over the Moorlands. I've owned the DayBreaker for the least amount of time however this is my daily commute bag. If I'm not testing a different commuter bag this is by my side. Great on the train as it's very light and reasonably thin too. I travelled with the original DayBreaker with work to see clients and away on a family holiday as well. Field tested, life test, Moorlander approved 🤘
      Hope you're well buddy and rocking life

    I'm normally always with you - but i have to say, that i *hate* the Helikon Satchel. I had one, tried to use it and felt always like freaking Santa. It has too few organization options and it's just a saggy *thing*. But i like the idea, particularly in summer, when you sweat under your backpack - not so with a bag like that. So i finally found the "Duffler Drop Bag" (available in some shops for a pretty good price). It's just stiffer, has more compartments, MOLLE on the front, but does not look too "tactical". And it's built like a tank. 🙂

      I also thought that it might sag with so little sectional areas in the main compartment - but I do trust Randy’s experience with it.
      I am looking closely at a SOTech A1 Go Bag as I have lusted after one for some time. It’s not too big but is big enough for a day out in the city.

    The third, the Jaakari M yes for sure I would like to have but I think if go for a Savotta one day I will go for a much traditionnal/bushcraft one and probably something like the 339 one (less military look)
