Hi - with EP and CTS you are doing different things. EP is looking to the past ie. the past hour and estimated were you are now based on a previously known position, direction of travel, tide and leeway. CTS it looking to the future ie. the hour to come and saying I want to get to a particular location which direction should I travel to allow for the tide and leeway.

      Thanks,
      That does makes sense.
      Another question:
Obviously you've used this location to demonstrate DR techniques, however it looks like there's at least a couple of landmarks which could be used to take compass bearings from,so in reality, would you agree that it would be better to get a fix from the available landmarks rather than DR in this situation? (Conditions permitting.)
Incidentally, I plugged the coordinates 46°11.0'N 6° 00.0'W into Google Maps which put it in the middle of the Bay of Biscay with no land in sight! :-)

Hi - yes you are correct, given that in this location in good viability you would be able to see a number of good charted locations a fix would be the best option. The DR and EP are then used if this is not possible ie. poor visibility or if you were further out to sea.
The chart being used in the video is a RYA training chart number 3 and consists of a made up coastline in a random location hence it does not look like the Bay of Biscay.

    Hi,
In your "Course to Steer - one hour of tide" video, you drew the tidal vector from the starting position, but in this video you drew the tidal vector from the DR position rather than the "last known good" position.
Would you explain the reason for this difference (or did you just shortcut the process compared to the other video?)
    Thanks

Good stuff! Can I ask, what's the order of the videos?

Thomas Raven - take a look at pzsc.org.uk/shorebased - here we have embedded the videos in order and marked them Dayskipper and/or Coastal Skipper. Otherwise you will find the videos are placed into playlists on our RUclips channel page.
