I feel 'Fans" are more concerned with who is the best driver, while the "Sport" (and all parties that entails) are concerned with who can build the fastest car. It's the never ending pull between the drivers championship and the constructors championship. Honestly I would think the majority of fans are far more concerned with the drivers championship and the FIA's rules and Regulations should follow suit. Because it's the fans that buy tickets and watch races etc. But then there is the counter argument to fans buying manufacturer merchandise from as small as a hat to an actual car at a dealership.

      1) the budget cap, to have development you have to invest, if you're capped on the amount of money you can spend, your development caps at some point aswell
      2) why invest in development when your rivals will just copy you? at that point is just more efficient to let your rivals catch up, have all the exact same car, and just use all your budget to hire the best drivers
This means development will actually stagnate, with progress only made in reliability, maybe

Copying even from pictures is extremely difficult though. Get some clearance off by 1 mm and you have different airflow which doesn't work with the rest of your components. You made a perfect point that copying is easy, but understanding how to make it work is not. So I'm okay with copying. If done right, copying can lead to faster and faster cars because it reduces the effort you need to put into designing a fast car yourself, and you can spend that effort on improving the existing design. Basically, your starting position in design is already one step ahead by copying which gives more time and resources to spend on further improving that design. I think this will ultimately push design further.

I see a lot of comments regarding an emphasis on constant innovation, and I had a question/idea:
What if, after a season, new innovations were made available (at cost) to any team which wishes to acquire those innovations?
That way you maximize performance year over year, as well as forcing (incentivizing) constant innovation every season. Your team can have a solid season with a significant advantage, but forces teams to find other ways/methods to improve even more in the next season, or face competition with the same advantages your team exclusively had in the prior season.
I'm not a huge F1 fan, but I've seen a few races in person (Monaco GP and Budapest GP) as well as online. So if you have insights as to why this might be negative, I'm all ears and curious to hear why this may be naive or a bad idea!

if there are no regulations against it, something i would like to see is less lift from the body. no contouring that slopes down in back, to allow the wings to be more effective, and maybe even allowing for active wing angles. things that would mean better use of the cars power like seen in the delta concept, but without being a tripod.

i think identical is an overstatement, taking from what works in the past has always been done, need someone to still innovate but sure makes sense to shift that philosophy, to me I find it regretable that the engines used have made it so theres very little choice but we will see, the new rulesets will certainly be a massive change on all teams ends, also taking inspiration can compromise you and usually makes you behind the one that carried it first, but in this case it was done well enough to be decent running and thats fine for the position they are in.

    • @AbrahamArthemius
      @AbrahamArthemius 3 года назад

To be fair, the nose is definitely the biggest part if the car to differentiate it from another (if we painted the cars all black).
Mercedes (and Tracing Point) has this spoon shaped nose, RB has a thin nose which look like a scuba diver mask, Renault is quite curvy and round, McLaren is started thin and gets wider at the end, while the rest of the team are following Ferrari which has this wide & blocky looking nose.

The on track action is what's most important. Compared to the mid 70s the modern cars would look very similar to each other without sponsor logos and team livery. Look at the distinct front end of the brabham and a Tyrrell with 6 wheels. I think this video said it best when it made the argument about taking someone else's design concept and making it work.

@@aloter1680 they are a lot like the aero rakes that you sometimes see on cars, it depends what kind of data the teams are collecting. other teams do run them, but racing point were probably just doing more extensive testing this year due to the radically different car. other teams would have a handle on how the tyres behave (most teams have run the same sort of car concept for 3 years in a row now) and so focused their testing on other areas of the car. no point having those bulky camera housings messing up the aero if you dont need them to be there.

I would agree with this. Every change in rule which is providing the drivers with more equal opportunities is very welcome for me. I want to a fair as possible competition and so it makes sense to allow copying or even equal parts for the teams.
Until 1980 it was allowed to purchase all parts from other teams and so copying an entire car.
Within the American CART Championship this is also allowed even today, what makes smaller teams more competitive and reduces costs massively.
In my opinion a great idea even for the formula 1.

This one reminds me of Japan’s first jet engine in WWII, where they straight up copied Germany’s turbojet design just by looking at pictures of them. I’m pretty sure if the submarines carrying the turbojet components arrived in Japan, the development time would’ve been cut short significantly. They had to make do with the wartime situation, thus creating the NK-20 based on the BMW-003 design. Any idiot can copy a homework and get away with it, but it takes some brain power to understand what you’re copying.
Great writeup! Once again, they copied the Germans heh.
