is it just me or do they need to add more supporters and defenders and stop with the all-rounders?
I agree. I expected Metagross to be a Defender, but still, there are too many Attackers and All-Rounders in the game, though I don't know if that's intentional or not.
Yes! I was just commenting not enough people play defender (or support), so that's probably why they make a pokemon like metagross be all-rounder so it actually gets picked lol

@@Woofrie Ah yes, a pokemon with a 135 attack stat is a defender. Think about that for a second. Metagross is literally used for its fusion of bulk and offensive power.
Been that way since launch...
Metagross: Unite move creates a wall that can easily be escaped with any dash or eject button
Umbreon: regular move creats a zone that can't be escaped by ANY move or item (except full heal if you get the timing just right)

@@Harry_Nsubugayou cant escape mean look once the 'eye' opened. Which make that move really OP since it cannot be cancelled by any means including unstoppable.

@@budisetiawan3989 just like with full heal if you eject before the eye opens you can escape it. Mean look is stupid but it’s not broken as it only traps one Pokémon. People who genuinely want this change are so lost because that would be much worse than a slowbro unite.
With the shields and knockups, I feel like Metagross really should have been classified as a defender. After all, it has the highest Defense of all the Pseudo Legendary Pokemon
It's a pseudo defender
Its HP stat is the second lowest among all pseudo legendaries at base 80. Which is still decent overall, but when you're competing with pokemon that have BSTs that rival legendaries...
@@hillhank3070 That's fair, though Goodra only has 10 more base HP. I've also been reading other comments that say people don't ever build Metagross defensively in the mainline games, he's always built for offense. So I guess All-Rounder does fit it better in that regard.
Speaking of Pseudo Legendaries that are in the wrong class though... Dragapult totally should have been a Speedster. (I mean come on, 142 base Speed?!) Even the fact that it has a ranged attack doesn't matter, since Dragonite is an All-Rounder with one
Yeah, well Absol is a "Speedster" and has a quite bad base speed of 75. So i think its pretty safe to assume that base stats from the main game series are not an absolute deciding factor in what role a pokemon is going to have. Thematically, while there are definitely arguments for why either role would fit Metagross, I do wish they would have made it a Defender as its kit in unite specifically does seem more defensive-oriented and there are a lot more Allrounders than Defenders already, which will be even more skewed towards Allrounders once Metagross and Gyarados are gonna be released. Once Gyarados is out, there will be 18 allrounders in the game, which will actually tie them with Attackers for the most represented role in Unite. But Attackers can kinda be split into Mages and ADCs while allrounders are all sort of bruisery, so I feel like at this point maybe we don't need more Allrounders for a while. And I say that as someone who mainly plays Allrounders, but I digress.
Although im not gonna complain about Gyarados since it is my favorite pokemon, but that is just me being biased.

I think Aurora Veil A9 jumping into metagross’s ult pit with him will be really powerful. Already tanky and now you’re getting 35%-40% damage reduction on top of a cc machine in there with you

I like that they know too many people are selfish and not enough players pick defender, so they figure just add more brawl-sturdy all-rounders.

I do mostly fill in as defender or support (will see if I get to try metagross)
But yeah over 2 yrs into the game so many players *_still_* don't care about team comp
I think it's that metagross is popular but they know people don't pick defended or support so they chose a popular class so it's more likely they buy skins.
How do you expect people to pick defenders when 99% of the time the teammates don't even USE the defender's HELP. Having to use a defender/supporter and not have anyone to fight for you when you engage a winning fight is beyond infuriating. I've had to drop playing those roles altogether in solo-q because of this. Far too many people are cowards or stupid and let me die when I'm tanking 4 other enemies at ray for so long and instead of being where they were literal moments ago I see on the map that all 4 went after a backcapper and are still struggling to even kill them. Then they all die at ray pit because I'm dead :)
i mean the all rounder category was the 2nd in terms of having the lowest ammount of pokemons so im kinda glad they add more of them but now they gotta add some supps because its getting anoying seeing literally the same sups every game
I feel like with metagross you could just fill the rest of your team with huge aoe unites so you'll always have someone to combo with, for example, meowscarada, any eevee, zacian, elde, venu, blastoise, etc.
Wait his first move is not Take down? This is so wrong.
Beldum lost Take Down as its only level up move in Gen 8. This is, weird as it sounds, more accurate to the main series
The fact that metagross plays like a defender and is not a defender is intriguing to me
I’m super excited for Metagross. I’m still gonna be using Magnet Rise as it at least gives Gross some kind of self peel. Something I noticed that wasn’t mentioned is how you can combine the follow up attack from magnet rise and the one from meteor mash for huge burst damage. Did not know that the healing from mash was Max HP based so cookie or weakness makes sense. I personally will go guard, weakness, and weight. Gross feels like another Mon who would kill to have a fourth item slot, but I think trying to get the best of both worlds with Hp and attack would be best. Didn’t know that gross had potentially 50% tenacity* via its passive that’s soo cool. I lowkey might just use potion since I’m scaling my Hp, already have a good amount of tenacity, damage reduction via magnet rise/zen headbut, and shields/healing through the other moves. I more so like meteor mash because of the separate healing and shield affects but I’m sure gyro ball will be up way more often

Glaceon ult is going to be CRACKED with Metagross ult since it has to stay in the diamond. Crustle is going to rain crits on everyone in that pit in a dual tank setup. Comfey attached and ulted with Metagross is set to create the ultimate tank. Garchomp can actually go crazy in the pit since it's already slightly difficult to control his ult over long distances.
A team centered around Metagross's Unite move would be interesting. I imagine Aroura veil A9, Gravity clef, Rollout wiggly or crustle, and that 4th slot is pretty open, one could go T-tar, gardevoir, snorlax, chande, blastoise, umbreon, lapras, there's a lot of options with this theoretical comp
I also feel Metagross's unite move's crater could work well if your ally's lapras gets in there, and uses perish song
combo metagross’ unite move pit, eject metagross outside of the pit, have two blastoises in the pit rapid spin and water spout to make a beyblade match.
It’s a shame they don’t acknowledge and effectively reward defensive and supportive behaviours
like giving out a Goal Blockers badges based on your blocked goals percentage which is drastically overlooked as a worthwhile quantifiable contribution
Or even a Conditions caster badge based condition casted percentage etc.
If the weight of their abilities isn’t acknowledged official post games and throughout trainers achievements ribbons then ultimately no one will care
For the unite move I still feel like is stupid that Umbreon gets a level 4 move that stops you in place and you can't dash or eject out, menwhile Metagross jusr creates a wall OCASIANALLY and you can just dash through

I think metagroos unite will combo well with gravity clafeable, so they cant escape and to give the sweet heals
Iron Defense is seriously one of the best level 1 moves in the game. Beldum can solo basically any character, I often pick up early double kills while invading.
Ngl back when all pseudo legends were all rounders I joked that all rounder mains would thank the begging defender mains for giving them metagross… now we are here with all rounder metagross…
Another cool combo would be Metagross trapping everyone and then a unite like Crams doing a bunch of damage from a safe distance
Okay, so I just picked the game back up. Metagross came out today too…. I’ve only been playing with Meragross and I’m loving it but I’ll need to play longer to get a full feel of how to play it best
Spragels, why do you think the devs haven’t added loadouts that you can apply to your Pokémon so that you don’t have to struggle to remember builds you’ve ran in the past and can have them all easily available in the pre game lobby? I sometimes forgo trying new builds so that I don’t mess up the one I already have and forget about it. I’ve already found multiple cool metagross builds and I think it would be cool to save them between matches.
I think I will try it with 6 Brown, 6 White and Resonant Guard, Charging Charm and Weakness Policy. Slow Smoke makes a lot of sense for me too.
Metagross unite move team comp: Metagross, obviously. Clefable supporter for gravity in the unite move. Delphox for unite move in the unite move. Ttar to jump in and sand tomb. Umbreon for stealing sheilds and mean look.
Alternatives: Gardevoir for unite move, Garchomp/Dnite for melee shreds, A9 for aurora veil in the unite move, Pikachu for all of its aoe, and finally Azu for water pulse +.
He actually seems quite necessary i get left to lane alone a bunch and i get stuck 1v3 so he'd be really nice to have for those scenarios
it seems really ridiculous to me that a move like mean look can exist, which locks an enemy into a zone that they cannot escape basically at all, but metagross' unite move can be escaped or entered very easily
Metagross seems like a reverse Azumarill. An all arounder who wants to fight multiple enemies
If you stick a gravity Clef in the pit, mean things will start to happen
Zoroark dashing through the pit multiple times with feint attack
Thunder+bolt pika would be awesome as well!
Boy, this sure does sound like a good kit for a defender.
I love magnet rise in the game you can combo it with meteor mash and do the alot of burst dmg at once
I think Cookie, Guard, and Policy will be my ideal build. Unless an Umbreon jumps in, you are going to have so much shielding. Could even go a step further and swap Policy for Buddy.
Metagross looks fun, a bit like a new garchomp. On a side note, I really feel like they need to do a better job with the roles in the game. Feels like the roles are just there for a basic example of what the Pokemon is but I would like it to be of a more strong focus.
Metagross Unite plus Cram Unite would be insane. You'd have all the Pokemon grouped together so the Arrokuda/Pikachu's would bounce to each opponent easily and the wall adds another layer of defense to keep enemy Pokemon off of Cram so it can get the entirety of its unite out. Decidueye unite could also be decent for the same reason
Metagross needs a lvl 8 evolution at bare minimum. It doesn't threaten most Pokémon enough for it to warrant such a late evo. If they plan on buffing it then lvl 9 makes sense though.
I really want to use this thing as a Defender. Slap an Exp. Share, Resonant Guard and maybe buddy or weakness policy on it and let it rip baby

A fun defensive build with metagross would be resonant guard, weakness policy/drain crown, and focus band
I might say resonant guard or aeos cookie instead of focus band, because your abilities give shields and heal based off of your max hp

Honestly Metagross should be a Defender, just give Gyro ball and Meteor mash knock back or stun and it would work
Something like Crams unite would be nice in combo with Metagross unite. Stick the enemy in a pit, Cram sets up unite to start AOE shredding the enemy team.
But cram will be nerfed next patch making this combo impossible to happen
I think pink and yellow emblems are underrated, but seeing the emblem loadout for pink physical attack or yellow physical attack is disappointing. The prospects for both sets on physical attack Pokemon are abysmal; you have to sacrifice health or attack for a full build, and a lot of times you have to sacrifice both, but for special attack Pokemon, you can usually get +200 HP and at least +5 special attack with ease. There are also no yellow/brown or pink/brown emblems (or yellow/green or pink/green emblems for that matter), so you can only get a max of 2 brown or green emblems on these builds. Yes there are much worse sets (like navy and gray), however, pink and yellow feel like they are just being held back by a lack of stat prospects rather than an awful color bonus or an inability to make a "full build" (navy and gray can only reach their second-tier bonuses of 2% increased unite charge and -6 damage taken respectively).
Aurora veil A9, sand tomb Ttar, Comfey unite and Metagross unite all stacked on top of each other would be so crazy.
AttackWeight RazorClaw and WeaknessPolicy are gonna be good on this one
I actually think his unite would be good with Flame Sweep (talonflames Unite), mostly because after you flame sweep your enemies can't really leave this small area, so not you can easily go in, and Talon has a natural dash out move too
I was thinking of Gardevoir Ult with Metagross’. The pull of Gardevoir right after cornering them Metagross’ feels like a solid combo
I think pink emblems would actually be worse on him then on other pokemon. Its diminishing returns, the more cc resist% you have the less useful will be further cc resistance.

It's Unite Move is the most exciting part of its kit to me. But I'm curious how it will play on release.
Other ults like zoroark, leafeon, cinderace, greninja's would probably also combo well with that wall, although some would be put at risk because they'd have to enter to ult.
so we got leafeon who had a ability similar to xayah from league of legends we had dragapult which is basicly twitch and akshan combined from league of legends we got meowscarrada who has fiddlesticks ultimate and zed's w from league of legends we had azumaril whos aqua tail is basicly aatrox q we had urshifu wicked blow which is sett's w we have slowbro's ultimate which is malzahar's ultimate and now we get darius q on metagross huh.... dunno if i missed something but suuuurely they are making original abilities right :)? (just to be clear i dont mind i still love both game but its kind of funny to see this)

Well, Spragels, EXACTLY as i think for an metagross + delphox + gardevoir combo which is great! (Before i forget, this combo will dominate in the unite championship series but probably not due to regulations of it. Being banned or not, its beneficial for teams likewise) trio queue lover might like this combo right away!

Though I feel you should go back a couple pokemon to blazikin and try the energy amplifier on it. It has a cool down but that's expected and from what I see you have 50% of the time where you're boosted and for it being a 21% that's huge

Having two late game pokemon in solo Q means you’ll get destroyed in the early half. So much so that your team might surrender before the Ray even spawns.

I think Metagross should be really slow, but really strong in attack and defenses. Like a giant titan that can not be in evry fight cause is always in late. PO team should offer always unique pokemon (like Hoopa, Dodrio, Zoroark, Sableye...), and not always the same stuffs with a new name and a new skin...

Garde unite + future sight, and suddenly entire team is wiped out except that decidueye whose only hope is to steal while your Zeraora is after him. By the way I still do not get it, why give Dragapult clear body, it cannot survive a single shot, and once he's stunned even for micro seconds he's out of his dragon dance. It's the most useless ability on any pokemon in the entire game XD
