And now in gen7 mega metagross even got banned But at least regular Metagross has dropped to RU, yeah rarely used .... imagine people 10 years ago if you told them that
I remember years ago, seeing Metagross in the strategy guide to Ruby/Sapphire, and it was love at first sight. Its crazy awesome design, combining two of my favorite types; it didn’t even need to have been a competitively good Pokémon for me to like it, but the fact that it was amazing was icing on an already wonderful cake. To this day, it remains my favorite, even if some have come a little close to beating it out... but only close (looking at you, Mega Mawile).
Finally Sun and Moon... Mega evolution received a buff in Gen 7, with megas getting their new speed immediately upon transformation, meaning Metagross no longer had to spend a turn at base 70. In the early days of Sun and Moon, it didn't see that much use, as it was outclassed almost completely by Mega Lucario and walled by Aegislash. However, once they got banned, Mega Metagross absolutely flourished. It loved all of the terrains, with Electric Terrain giving it a stronger Thunder Punch, Grassy Terrain giving it passive recovery and weakening Earthquake and Misty Terrain keeping it free from status. But it was Psychic Terrain that it loved the most, giving it an immunity to Mega Mawile's Sucker Punch and powering up its Zen Headbutt to massive levels. On top of all that, most of Metagross's old threats, like Skarmory, Slowbro, Suicune and Gliscor, had fallen out of favor to be replaced by Celesteela, which had no reliable recovery and could quickly be worn down by Thunder Punch, Toxapex, which was weak to Zen Headbutt and Tapu Fini, which was neutral to Steel. Mega Metagross had no safe switchins. Landorus-T got wrecked by Ice Punch, Celesteela got 2HKOed by Thunder Punch in Electric Terrain and Toxapex would crumble to Zen Headbutt. Rotom-Wash could take a hit and burn it, but if Psychic Terrain was up Zen Headbutt would 2HKO. Heatran could melt it with Magma Storm, but if it had Earthquake or Hammer Arm, Heatran was toast. While it couldn't run every move, it could always potentially be running the right move, and you wouldn't know until it was too late. Eventually it was deemed too much for OU and banished to Ubers. Between Mega Salamence, Gengar and Lucario, there was no reason to use Mega Metagross, and once Ultra Sun and Moon came out and introduced Dusk Mane Necrozma and with that Mega Metagross was forgotten. Regular Metagross didn't have life so easy. OU was beyond its reach now, but even UU was too much for the metal crab to handle. It was too slow, and too easily forced out by common Pokemon like Krookodile, Hydreigon, Moltres, Rotom-Heat, Swampert and Suicune. It was also outclassed by Scizor and Cobalion, which both had better typing and could boost with Swords Dance. Its usage dropped so low that it found itself in RU alongside fellow pseudo legendary Goodra. In RU, however, it was amazing. It usually ran an offensive Stealth Rock set, and between Shuca Berry, Toxic and Explosion, could keep Stealth Rock up against Donphan and Mandibuzz. But if Stealth Rock was taken care of by a teammate, Metagross could run its old Choice Band set that would smash holes through teams like nothing else in the tier, or an Agility set designed to sweep late game. It could even use Choice Scarf, to outrun and surprise Raikou and Salazzle with a super effective Earthquake. Once Gligar, Doublade and Chesnaught rose to UU, it climbed even higher, becoming one of the most popular Pokemon in the tier and arguably the best, finishing in S Rank on Smogon's viability rankings. Huge Attack and Steel STAB was welcome in Gen 7 VGC, in a metagame where every team had at least one Tapu on it. While it did face stiff competition from Kartana as an offensive Steel type, which had much more power, Metagross had better Special bulk, no 4X weakness and Clear Body, giving it an immunity to Intimidate, so unlike Kartana in wouldn't have to run in fear of Arcanine. While it wasn't one of the most common Pokemon, it had a solid niche, and saw a decent amount of usage. In worlds in the masters division it grabbed a 4th place at the hands of Japan's Tomoyuki Yoshimura. In seniors it grabbed 7th place at the hands of Izumi Motoe. Finally in junior's it came in 8th place at the hands of Paraguay's William Axel Jesus Sanchez Bernal. Metagross got its mega stone back for 2018, where it basically did what it had before but better. It wasn't one of the flashier megas, but if you needed something to check the tapus, which you did, it would rarely steer you wrong. At worlds in the Masters division it placed 3rd at the hands of Sweden's Nils Dunlop and 8th at the hands of Italy's Arash Omati. In the Senior Division it placed 3rd in the hands of Japan's Shota Yamada and 4th in the hands of Peru's Gabriel Duran. Finally in Juniors it racked up 3 places in the top 8, coming 3rd place at the hands of Japan's Yujio Arai, 6th at the hands of the UK's Teddy French and 8th at the hands of Italy's Riccardo Cantrell. However, once the restricted meta of 2019 rolled around, Necrozma-Dusk Mane came to outclass Mega Metagross once again. It couldn't even claim the Clear Body niche, since Solgaleo had effectively a better version of Clear Body. There was no reason to use Mega Metagross in VGC 2019, thus nobody did.
Araf Zaman SSR fanclub At least it was amazing in RU though. It didn't end up like those Pokemon that are too strong for one tier yet too weak for the one ahead (Staraptor, Entei, SM Darkrai etc.)

Oh boy, back in the day, the joy I sparked when I had a shiny beldum. Instantly made it my main. But in pvp my friends mostly picked Swampert, so.... RIP my Shiny Metagross
Getting an useless Beldum with nothing else but Take Down from Steven as a kid, and then training him until it evolved was so worth it. Seeing those stats at lvl 45 that already rivalized with many of its lvl 55-60 teammates, such fond memories. It became my favourite Pokémon until Gen 4 came around and a certain Sand Dragon-Shark took its place. But I guess the Silver medal fits for Metagross
Well Salamence is my favorite pokemon, but I´m not naive enough to say "best". I´d say it lines up with the non-legendary, but legends on their own 3 dragons: Dragonite, Salamence, Garchomp. Well Rayquaza was the first legendary dragon I think. D/P/P Dialga Palkia and Giratina as dragon Trio was cool back then, but after gen4 they just threw dragon types out like for free: Haxorus, Hydreigon, Kyurem, Reshiram, Zekrom. ANOTHER Dragon Trio, the 3rd Fire Fighting Starter in a row... and definetly the least exiting one of them imo. Yeah Salamence is freakin awesome. Awesome stat spread. Movepool is great (well exept for the fact, that there is no physical high base power dragon move). All Abilities are amazing: Intimidate, Moxie and Aerilate. Imagine if it had something as well to counter it´s massive ice weakness like some other Dragon Flying types it´d be insanly broken.
E-vire in Gen 4 was the most overhyped thing in existence. it had the coverage... but it lacked the speed, the bulk, or the power to make that coverage work. All its moves were just too weak, and it was too slow to sweep without a speed boost, and by the time it got actual strong STAB in gen 5, power creep and speed creep cemented its fate in the lower tiers.
Metagross always had OU success. Even his base special attack is incredible. By the way, I recommend giving this bad boy a Choice Specs and Sleep Talk for countering Hypnosis or Spore users. Mega Metagross is just Gamefreak giving the Pokémon immunity to powercreep.
I dont do competitive pokemon, but i found this channel during a dark point in my life and it helped a lot, just because i love pokemon and its really easy to just binge these. Keep up the good work.

They went all out on the design of Metagross, I'm convinced they tried extra hard when designing that Pokemon to make it as badass as possible. Then they took it to the next level with Mega Metagross and the shiny version. My favorite Pokemon, easily.
I hate that Scizor completely outshines Metagross now when it comes to the base forms. Shout out to the steel and explosion nerfs, lack of SD and lack of an offensive ability. Don't get me wrong Scizor is pretty cool but Scizor still has 100 base stats less and is of course no pseudo. Jesus Christ...
i mean, singles there isn't gonna be much change from now to gen 8, unless smogon says fuck it and ban lando for no reason. so there really is no reason not too
i mean i just used it as an example because it would drastically shake up the meta edit: making the research harder for the inclusion of gen 7 to these video
Dragonite: Still Good Ttar: Still Good Salamence (Regular): Okay Metagross (Regular): why tf is he so low now? Garchomp: Still Good Hydreigon: Still Good, just not as good as in Gen 5

@@alexdrake4081 real talk: we need an ice type speedy glass cannon, because we only have weavile in that department, and ice type is the defenition of a glass cannon. I would love it if something like that was the next pseudo.
HOW GOOD WAS SALAMENCE LET'S FINISH THE GEN 3 PSEUDO DUO
jaqwon14 psuedo dou? More like sudowoodo
MooveOver leave
Now for the other pseudo,
Salamence!
Jeroen B Y O S
Jeroen B My favorite Pokemon
Imagine a champion that uses pseudo legendaries with competitive strategies.
Gen 9 Champion using Metagross, Hydreigon, Dragapult, Garchomp, Tyranitar and a new one with an anti Ice typing with items like Assault Vest, Life Orb, a Mega Stone and the return of the Power Gems (looking at a Ground Gem Garchomp), that would make everyone stop complaining about Pokemon being too easy
Iván Zegarra Galarian Dragonite is gonna be Dragon/Ice if that matches
Or. A champion that uses bulky water types, gen 5 power creep, and fighting types.
Iván Zegarra ok go mega rayqaza. Seriously though you forgot majakarp ratata metapod etc
@@ivanzegarra9765 fairies would demolish that team
How GOOD was blaziken actually?
other rs starters too

How good was clefable actually
yeaah! Puffy fairy!
I love Clefable
Yea clefable
How Good was Milotic ACTUALLY? We've already done the other water serpent thingy!
Can you do a video explaining the weather wars of gen 5?
Dragooncroft I like this idea
Dragooncroft Wonderful weather we're having.
He said in one of his video that he will do ANY pokemon if it gets enough votes
cool idea!
The Weather Wars... we remember them well...
Drenching rains...
Scorching sun...
And the sandstorms... oh, the sandstorms...
You'll have to excuse us for not speaking of the Weather Wars...
Most of us barely made it out alive...
How overpowered was SALAMANCE actually
@Zedrik Allen genwunner
@Zedrik Allen or your just a guy who doesnt know anything about pokemon and always say "pikachu"
@Zedrik Allen wait.........oh sorry about that i thought you didnt know what a salamence is
@Zedrik Allen hey i aint no genius "hides my team of uturning landorus defog tapu fini ash greninja sword dance mega pinsir pursuit alolan muk and magnet trapping magnezone"
Metagross in the earlier gens: suicide is badass
TENTACRUEL and DUGTRIO are the only gen 1 pokemon that were very successful in later gens that hasn't had a video yet.
We need a video of them.
MapCRimZ and clefable
At least dugtrio and tentacruel did things before gen 6
yeh please tentacruel
Clefable I know for a fact is very good in DPP
Logan Rhoades it was UU or RU in every gen until gen 6. It got magic guard in gen 4, which was a nitch, but that's it.
You should honestly do salamence next
Hands down favorite poke of all time. Remember when 3rd came out and saw him for the first time I know what needed to be on my team. And for the longest time I didn't know he was that much of a power house tell i started playing competitively XD so even better
Oh boy, back in the day, the joy I sparked when I had a shiny beldum. Instantly made it my main.
But in pvp my friends mostly picked Swampert, so.... RIP my Shiny Metagross
@@Jaronite yeah I understand that one, a good earthquake is bad news for him.
Please do Salamence and was it good
Patricia Lopez Wrong place for ads. XD
How good was SALAMENCE actualy?
we all know about salamence!!!
Imagine being so OP that you caused one of your types to be nerfed by losing two resistances.
That acually caught me off guard because I skipped Gen 6. I was really suprised to see my Magnemite take so much damage all of a sudden
How good was Salamence actually.
Sperry the god We already know. Everyone knows as a matter of fact; it was one of the best pseudo legendaries out there and still is!
Imagine if it had something as well to counter it´s massive ice weakness like some other Dragon Flying types it´d be insanly broken.
rs35505 good to see someone who likes Salamence as much as, I do.
How good were Misdreavus and Mismagius actually?
Weezing... actually comes up a lot. So how good was it? Must have been at least pretty damn good through Gen 3.
I like how well it takes on Buzzwole
How good was flygon actually?? It got a buff in later gens so i wanna see how good it became, but R.I.P. Mega Flygon😭
How GOOD was Electabuzz and Electivire ACTUALLY?
Rarely used
not in gen 4 :)
then team preview came out
Yeeeeees
How GOOD were Misdreavus and Mismagius ACTUALLY
I hadn't noticed someone else posted this already, give that guy likes since he has more already
Yes
*How GOOD was Leafeon **_ACTUALLY?_*

I have been waiting for this for so long and I was not disappointed

How good was Blaziken ACTUALLY? or How good was Swampert ACTUALLY? Please ;-;

NOW IM AS STRONG AS A BAAARGE YES
GIVE US MY FAV DRAGON
GIVE US THE MONSTER
NOW IM AS STRONG AS A BAAARGE
Mence is summed up as: a bit better than dragonite.
Now it's time for Salamence, the other gen 3 pseudo with an uber mega
They went all out on the design of Metagross, I'm convinced they tried extra hard when designing that Pokemon to make it as badass as possible. Then they took it to the next level with Mega Metagross and the shiny version. My favorite Pokemon, easily.
Salamence pls

How GOOD was Ledian ACTUALLY??!?
How good was Salamence ACTUALLY?
I hate that Scizor completely outshines Metagross now when it comes to the base forms.
Shout out to the steel and explosion nerfs, lack of SD and lack of an offensive ability.
Don't get me wrong Scizor is pretty cool but Scizor still has 100 base stats less and is of course no pseudo.
Jesus Christ...

so is there a reason you still haven't included gen seven yet. considering you could report on vgc 17.
I guess because the gen isn't over yet but like you said there's still a lot he could cover about the meta at this point
i mean, singles there isn't gonna be much change from now to gen 8, unless smogon says fuck it and ban lando for no reason. so there really is no reason not too
i mean i just used it as an example because it would drastically shake up the meta
edit: making the research harder for the inclusion of gen 7 to these video
That mega evolution.. new heights of sillyness
Man I remember seeing it in team preview ... man oh man
She will beat you silly too
That moment when a Pseudo Legendary is sent to RU, but VENOMOTH IS UU!! That's power creep at its finest
Dragonite: Still Good
Ttar: Still Good
Salamence (Regular): Okay
Metagross (Regular): why tf is he so low now?
Garchomp: Still Good
Hydreigon: Still Good, just not as good as in Gen 5

Legendary BEASTS.

Ok, Suicune is understandable and while I can MAYBE see how that could apply to Entei, refering to Raikou as such however is something only an idiot would do. How does Raikou's Design, WHICH IS BASED ON A SABERTOOTH TIGER BTW, look ANYTHING like a Dog?!
Can I ask why you are responding to a comment two months old and the newer videos are out?
Suicune has and continues to be a viable pick, period.
