    I saw REO SPEEDWAGON back in 2019 and they sounded great! Definitely one of the best bands of the 70's and 80's. Even though some of the original members aren't with the band anymore, they still are a great band with a great sound! Kevin rocks and the band is currently on tour with Styx and Loverboy in 2022! Rock on REO SPEEDWAGON and keep "Rolling with the Changes! " I will always be a "LOYAL REO SPEEDWAGON" fan!

    Well said. A lot of this was covered in the MTV “behind the music” documentary. Kevin started singing soft rock in that higher register and the songs didn’t feel like 1970s party & hard rock anymore. It was irritating to gary - and To a lot of his old Fan base and I have a feeling Gary felt he was letting down the old fans. The older, long time fans were always very important to reo

    Yeah, no question about it, that slightly awkward looking kid from high school done real good! REO have certainly been only a shadow of what they once were in these latter years but I'm happy that Bruce Hall has stuck it out alongside Kevin, he was a major influence on me making bass the instrument I wanted to play. I didn't know that Kevin was writing his story but I'll keep a keen eye out for that when it arrives. Another great video here, RD, I really enjoyed the one you produced on Gary too. You have a very pleasing storytelling style. Best regards to you.

    REO Speedwagon was one of my two favorite bands back in the late '70s and up through Hi Infidelity. I just jammed out on the 2 LP You Get What You Play For a couple of days ago. What a great set of songs and performances there!
    I hated to see Gary Richrath go and then decline. His guitar sound was very unique and you knew who you were hearing, even if you weren't familiar with the song, when you heard Gary playing.
    I'm glad that he did come up on stage and play with REO Speedwagon shortly before he died. I hated to see Gary leave and I'm going to look for that video you did on him right now.
    Like you, I lost interest in the band about the same time you did and it's never been the same since. I've seen them a number of times over the last 30 years almost. And they have put on some good shows especially when they start throwing in some songs like Golden Country. But it never did sound quite the same and his other band members eventually dropped out it became less and less, already after being a lot less after Gary's departure, of the classic REO Speedwagon sound.
    Great videos and artists you have done the short documentaries on. I'm really enjoying them so thanks!

      Some of them old classic bands once they lose a lead singer or a lead guitar, especially one like Richrath it's pretty much over. The sound and the mojo of the band changes and the fans move on. Happens to all of them.

      @@RiverDocs yep, it's a sad but true fact indeed. That magic, chemistry, and the sound has to change when that happens. Especially when it's a band like REO Speedwagon. There's no replacing members in their case. 👍

    I was hopeful that during the 2-year break with COVID, REO would put out a new album as they are touring with Styx and Loverboy. I don't think I'll go as same of songs and set. I do give them credit for sticking around so long but don't want to pay to see them anymore. They do still have 3 original members, so I still consider them REO. I will miss these older bands as they are all great and don't like many new bands; I love classic rock.

    • @randyrowell8048
      @randyrowell8048 2 года назад +1

      Actually, Neal Doughty is the only original member. Heck, Gary wasn't even an original. They had some decent success before the Hi Infidelity album and that record put them in the stratosphere. However, they seemed to stop being a hard rock band and became a ballad band. Live they were still that great Midwest band because they always toured. Their present line up has been the longest incarnation of REO. The Hi Infidelity era was their best line up (IMO) with solid records a few years before and a few years after. Dave Amato is an awesome guitarist, but Gary Richrath and Kevin Cronin were the heart of REO.

    Gary and Kevin were truly the core of this band. I was happy to see that Gary at least had a couple reunions with the band before he passed, but it would have been really cool if they had fully regrouped earlier.
    Regardless, Dave Amato is a hell of a guitarist, and he does a great job keeping REO going certainly not Richrath, but very good. Same goes for Bryan Hitt, he’s a beast of a drummer. I’m glad they’re still touring, and (in my opinion, at least) they sound great.

    the band still rocks..still sells out shows..the new Drummer and Guitarist have been with them for over 30yrs and technically are better musicians than the originals. Unfortunately no matter what Kevin reveals in his book he will probably be chastised. I loved Gary very much and was crushed when he and Alan were no longer a part of the band. I just feel that no one has the right to judge what happened between two people who were like brothers for so many years. Brothers sometimes have differences and fights. Anything that may have been said between Kevin and Gary, Kevin now has to live with. From what I understand they had both resolved any issues between them a couple years before Gary's death. And Kevin has said that he had hoped Gary would rejoin the band just a couple years after leaving, but of course that didn't happen. Very few people really know what went down and I'm sure those few all have their own versions. And whether you agree with Kevin taking the band his direction or not, they still sell out shows and put on one hell of a show.

      I still think that we grew up during the best time in music, and pretty much everything else as far as that goes. Cheap gas, cheap "fast" muscle cars, cheap houses and beautiful young ladies that wasn't afraid to show some skin, yet a lot of them still had scruples.

It was a general admission(the first and last at the arena in St Louis)..so first come first serve on the seating...doors opened at 6:00 we got there at noon and the lines were already forming. This was in 78 I believe. By the time the doors opened and the out of control crowd pushed the turnstiles over, busted in the doors, and people were trampled... it was a madhouse.
