One big thing that I think helps is letting them that in the same room so it starts to scent the room, and it gets the snakes into feeding mode a little better. But I have been having nothing but success using his method.
I just tried using a heat lamp to warm a fuzzy for my snake. She is 2 months old and has not taken a meal since being with her breeder a month ago. I have tried so many different ways to get her to eat and after warming her meal tonight under a heat lamp and focusing on the head of the mouse, she finally took it! I have always fed live rats but a new job took me to a small coastal town where there are no feeder anything. I drove to Portland and bought two live rats and a tray of frozen. They both refused the live and so far the younger snake has refused the F/T (the older one was getting ready to shed so I didn’t try) I will definitely try the heat lamp. Thank you for the information, I’m so worried my babies are starving!
You could use a pass through warmer/holding cabinet for warming a lot of rats at once. They take large trays that slide into slots. You can set the warmth for whatever you want.
Most excellent tutorial sir. You hit some simple yet very important key points. Got to make the food as real and natural as possible. Thank you for the heat lamp and hair dryer idea. Even a live rodent that smells like pine shavings, won’t work sometimes…
I go ahead and warm up thawed rodents a bit even for hognose snakes and boa constrictors. And even though hognose snakes and boas are not picky with prey temperature, I do notice that many of them will strike sooner when the prey is warm. A heat lamp makes it easy, thanks for sharing.

I usually let them thaw at room temp, then put them under the light, but I've put frozen rodents under lamps, too. It speeds up the thawing process, but you really have to keep an eye one them.
I find a lamp by far the best way too but mine all like it 90* mine will not recognize it as food much over 90* you need to tug on that rat tail a couple times after the strike and get those week feeding responses up to par. You will see a much more confident strike after the snake thinks it had to use more force, it’s a brain hack everyone should be talking advantage of. Just adjust the lamp distance to adjust the temperature.
Interesting method, I've had a lot of success warming up in warm water and patting them so they don't drip. Great video though, it's important the customer knows exactly how the breeder has been offering.
Can you please let me know the process from when you take them out of the freezer? I take mine out of freezer the night before and put them in fridge overnight then put them under heat lamp for forty mins. Until they are around *105. But I have one pied that is having running stool and my female pied is Regurgitating. All my temps are perfect and Humidity is fine and I get my rodents from rodent pro every other month. Not sure what I am doing wrong?? Please help thanks for your time!! I love your snake and will be doing business with you In the Future( albino pieds) thanks!
We just got another ball python, and he was eating live from his breeder, but I decided to try frozen thawed, I heated it up in hot water and got it hot like you do and I set it in his hide with him cause he was balled up, and about an hour later when I checked he had ate it. So heck yeah! So glad he is taking F/T cause I’m worried about him getting attacked by a mouse. My uncle had a snake that that happened too ):

Which snake did you get from me? I start offering rats at different ages, but usually when they are pretty young. Sometimes, there are certain snakes that just won't take rats, though. I have some breeder males and females here that eat nothing but mice. Males are easy, because they don't need much to keep good bodyweight. Females who only eat mice do take a little more work, because you have to feed them multiple mice per week. I give my snakes whatever they want to eat and they do just fine. I have more than a few breeder females that produce fine for me on a diet of mice.

I thaw my all day and then put them on a heat mat with no thermostat for about an hour aside and take them off as i use them warm the head in boiling water for a second or 2 and that works great butthats basically the same idea as yougood video its the biggest problem people get
Sure somebody as big into the hobby as yourself has seen Freedom Breeders rodent oven? Sounds like the perfect solution to the time to prep/feed F/T when larger feeders are needed. I’m not sure if it’s in full production yet but Jesse did a video highlighting it so o imagine it’s getting close enough an influencer like yourself could get one Licketty.
I’ve found that slow thaw in ambient snek room temps helps the bursting problem. I at least have far fewer feeders busting when I thaw in ambient air rather than dropping in like warm to warm water. Hot water is always a no go for me on thawing and having any luck with them staying whole when hit hard and wrapped with intent.

My Kings and Corns not being temperature picky never refused. Great video! You should do a video on the stubborn snakes that won't eat right out of the gate. When you assist, how you do it and how many times it takes before the baby is eating on its own. I have a couple now going on their 5th week of assist feeding and I don't like them going this long... I have a feeling there might be something else going on with the snake.
I don't have any bugs in my facility other than some little fruit flies. They are impossible to completely eradicate. I'm pretty certain that every reptile facility has them. They like warm areas and they are attracted to snake poop and thawing rodents, apparently.
@@TheRoyalConstrictor I think the person may have mistaken the baby snakes cruising the top of the tubs waiting for food as bugs. Like there are quite a few babies you can see that do that. They are auper cute when they do that. I saw no flies around the rodents that you were heating up. I guess you would get fried if you came into close contact with those lamps.

I don't have so many to feed, so I warm the rodents on a tray over anboil filled radiator which is used to heat the room.

Was going to ask do you have them at room temp then heat lamp to feed or are you using the lamp to thaw all the way to feeding.

How do you think a incubator would do heating the frozen thawed rats up if you have alot to feed

I'm wondering if maybe leaving them in a bag out in the sun might have a similar effect to the heat lamps.?
Or even submerge the bag in water and then put it into the sun idk. I'm new to this but I'm trying different things for my girl

How long approximately under the lamp from fully frozen till you start checking temp?

Is it just me that saw SO many bugs, flies, all that crawling around the enclosures? I guess that’s normal?
Those weren't bugs. I thought they were too. But those are ball python noses trying to get the food. I laughed so much when I figured it out.
