given that you enjoy books about book sellers and book lovers I really think you’d enjoy The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruíz Zafón, it is set in Barcelona (around the time of the Spanish Civil War) and follows a father and son who own a book shop, but they also take care of this secret maze full of books that have survived the war and need to be protected against the censorship of the Franco dictatorship. from there it just gets infinitely better and better and it covers so many topics. needless to say, Zafón is definitely one of my fav authors.
Couldn't agree more! I received The Shadow of the Wind as a Christmas present from my father because he knew I read Marina by Zafón a few months back and that I adored it! I'm reading it right now and I'm loving it, and I think Jack would enjoy it too!

The Garden of Evening Mists is SO GOOD - super surprised to see it here because it's one of my favorite works! Bit of a slow read, but I thought it was beautiful. Beyond happy to see this book on your channel!
I read snow last year over a few snowy days in January with my window open and candles lit and honestly was such a lovely time. I did predict the murderer but it was still such a fun little book and sparked my love for crime (which is now one of my favourite genres) hope you enjoy it! Happy new year everyone!
I loved Sorrow and Bliss - one of my favourite books of 2021! I heard Meg Manson speak at the Verb Festival in Wellington, and she had an episode on How to Fail, and she sounds like one of the loveliest people in the world.

I love your Christmas book hauls and they have a very special place in my heart because it was a video just like this one, where I discovered you and your channels. It was on a day where I was struggling so bad with another day under lockdown but then I spent the morning in the sunshine on my front step with your Christmas book haul, and the next thing I knew I was able to take a deep breath and feel a little joy again. Thank you for the past year just being you and sharing your content.
Excited for you to read Breasts and Eggs! It’s a bit different than what the blurb suggests, but a great discussion surrounding women’s & bodily autonomy, women’s lived experiences, and ethics. Seems right up your alley.
Little Paris Bookshop is light and fluffy and just sooooo good! It's the only book in the lot I've read and I really hope you enjoy it! On another note, I've totally added some books from your book haul to my tbr now xD cheers!
I read the little paris bookshop last year for my bookclub. Theres not so much Paris in my memory, because he gets on his boat and floats away, but it did give me major France nostalgia anyway. It's an easy floaty read in general but I enjoyed the book index at the back, I pulled some titles for further reading from in there.
The Vegetarian is one of my favourite books I’ve ever read. I studied it at uni and my god, what a masterpiece. It’s wacky and uncomfortable, yet so beautifully sensitive and pure. Definitely one to look forward to!
I'm also trying to read one nonfiction book per month! I finished "Cultish" by Amanda Montell a few days ago and started "The Icepick Surgeon" yesterday, and they're both so interesting!
I also really want to read The Vergetarian this year! I read Human Acts by Han Kang in 2020 and it was just so good. I really appreciated how concise and well thought out it was
Oh I just finished Human acts by Han Kang a few days ago and I loved it!! I also read The vegetarian in December (I did really enjoy this book though) but I think I prefer Human acts more, just my personal preference I guess haha I hope jack will read Human acts as well
Oh William sounds wonderful. I love those kinds of stories. Just added to my ever-expanding TBR. Definitely want to read Severance this year too. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these! ☺
I'm in the middle of this amazing non-fiction book right now you might be interested in! It's called A Fatal Thing Happened On The Way to the Forum by Emma Southon and I'm obsessed with her writing style
garden of the evening mists is amazing! very vivid depiction of a traumatised post-colonial Malaya (now Malaysia), with such stunning writing - hope you enjoy it :)
watching this nearly 2 years later and jack saying the booker prize 'wouldn't even care who i am' to now hosting the official livestream! that is growth
I literally just finished The Little Paris Bookshop last night hahaha. I also have Snow sitting on my TBR shelf. The Little Paris Bookshop ha dme thinking on so much and actually made me want to sell everything and just move and explore the world.
My friend got me Ariadne for my birthday as I'll read anything that involves a Greek mythology retelling and it's so good, it's such an interesting look into the myths and the way in which women are casualties of men's ambitions and heroic journey's in these myths and the cover is stunning!
I just read Ariadne back in December and loved it (that edition is gorgeous!) What a great Christmas, these all look amazing. I am also trying to read more nonfiction this year. I love the idea of doing something new once a month. --Nat
I was going to buy the little paris bookshop from waterstones yesterday but changed my mind last minute but after hearing your views about it I'm regretting not getting it so im going to go and buy it tomorrow.
Hi Jack! I’d love a list of your top funny books. Funny was the bottom genre on my StoryGraph this year and I really need a lift to my spirits as I’m sure we all do! Funny books that aren’t just the autobiographies of comedians cause I find they often fall flat. And I trust your judgment more than anyone else’s!
I cannot recommend Han Kang's The Vegetarian enough. It's a quick read, but the book-and I cannot stress this enough-does not care about the reader's comfort. What a jarring, gripping ride of a book. If you enjoy it and want more Asian lit, I'd point you in the direction of Sayaka Murata's Earthlings.
idk how educated people are about trans stuff but some really great intro stuff to what trans means and what issues we face and what misconceptions there are about us can be found on Riley J Dennis' youtube channel. I also enjoy Ash Hardell, Jackson Bird, and Jammidodger. The first two are educational and the latter is more entertaining (but also educational). He also has a lot more on UK trans stuff.
Sorrow and bliss was one of my most favourite books of last year. I had no intention of reading it but it came heavily recommended to me. I felt blindsided by it and I bloody loved it

It was on a day where I was struggling so bad with another day under lockdown but then I spent the morning in the sunshine on my front step with your Christmas book haul, and the next thing I knew I was able to take a deep breath and feel a little joy again. Thank you for the past year just being you and sharing your content.
I justm finished shokos smile and im OBSESSED !!! 2022 is going to be a great reading year!!
I just love the diversity of books you got
Excited for you to read Breasts and Eggs! It’s a bit different than what the blurb suggests, but a great discussion surrounding women’s & bodily autonomy, women’s lived experiences, and ethics. Seems right up your alley.
watching this makes me so so happy because you're so excited!! for books!! love it, 12/10
I don't even read, but I just find your channel so cozy, and I love all the passion you have when talking about books haha
It's an easy floaty read in general but I enjoyed the book index at the back, I pulled some titles for further reading from in there.
ok, currently adding literally every book you mentioned to my tbr lol you make everything sound so interesting.
I just added seven books to my TBR because of this video; thanks, Jack! Happy 2022 and may you have many great hours of reading ahead.
I was so surprised when he said that he met Ashley aka bestdressed. I miss her so much! She is an icon for sure!!
I read 3 strouts this last year she is so your cup of tea! and I've read Garden of evening mists wonderful book!
I also really want to read The Vergetarian this year! I read Human Acts by Han Kang in 2020 and it was just so good. I really appreciated how concise and well thought out it was
Oh I just finished Human acts by Han Kang a few days ago and I loved it!! I also read The vegetarian in December (I did really enjoy this book though) but I think I prefer Human acts more, just my personal preference I guess haha
I hope jack will read Human acts as well
I'm reading The Vegetarian right now!
Transcendent kingdom is so good! I know you’ll love it🤍
Oh William sounds wonderful.
Jack hypes each book so much!!!! I want to devour all of them
garden of the evening mists is amazing! very vivid depiction of a traumatised post-colonial Malaya (now Malaysia), with such stunning writing - hope you enjoy it :)
I literally smile every time jack uploads. Like pavlov's dog. Jacklov???
Opening RUclips and seeing you posted a video got me soooo excited! My TBR is literally 100+ books thanks to your recommendations☺️
The Promise is amazing. I loved it. As a South African the characters came to life. The narrator is unconventional. I could not put it down.
The Razor's Edge is stunning. My dad gifted it to me so it'll always be special but Maugham just happens to be an incredible writer also.
watching this nearly 2 years later and jack saying the booker prize 'wouldn't even care who i am' to now hosting the official livestream! that is growth
I literally just finished The Little Paris Bookshop last night hahaha. I also have Snow sitting on my TBR shelf. The Little Paris Bookshop ha dme thinking on so much and actually made me want to sell everything and just move and explore the world.
SORROW AND BLISS!! One of my fav reads of 2022, I am so keen to hear your thoughts
My friend got me Ariadne for my birthday as I'll read anything that involves a Greek mythology retelling and it's so good, it's such an interesting look into the myths and the way in which women are casualties of men's ambitions and heroic journey's in these myths and the cover is stunning!
Shout out my home country, South Africa! 👏
The Promise is also on my TBR for 2022.
Read the vegetarian a few months back and loved it!!!
Books are the best gift to receive! 📚☕️
I really wish there was a Waterstones in the country I live 😩 that Ariadne exclusive edition book is so beautiful
now THIS is a haul! the vegeterian is one of my absolute favorites!! The Razor's Edge is also on my tbr courtesy of our girls emma + carley lol
I’ve recently just got into reading cos of this guy, I’ve now read more books in the last year than I’ve read in my entire life
Shut up
@@rebeccaj6865 ?? So unnecessary. Honestly, well done Frances (I'm guessing that's your name), Jack inspires me to read more too :)

I've downloaded kindle samples of many of the books you mention Jack, thanks for the recommendations and Happy New Year
I cannot recommend Han Kang's The Vegetarian enough.
My TBR just got WAY longer! Sorry you’re stuck in the UK rn and not where you want to be, Jack
Sorrow and bliss was one of my most favourite books of last year.
I had no intention of reading it but it came heavily recommended to me.
I felt blindsided by it and I bloody loved it
you have become my favourite youtuber ever since the dark academia video! im so into it
That's a beautiful edition of Ariadne. I read it last year and I really enjoyed it.
