thanks very much for watching, don't forget to subscribe, and give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed!!
Reading books, buying books and watching Jack's booktube videos are 3 different hobbies
omg
watching Jack's booktube videos, adding every single book to your never ending tbr list, buying books and reading books are 4 completely different hobbies.
Ive never seen a sentence this true
This is so accurate
So true!!!
Hopefully Jack's season 2 in Paris will be better than Emily's season 2 in Paris
omg love it hahah
HAHA
admittedly that is a very low bar to cross
The only way it could be worse is if it was season 1 of Emily In Paris.
😂 😂 😂

You have room on your walls not taken up by books?!
Jack ,you're always joking about wether your degree was worth it or not, and I can certainly tell you that it was. The way you're able to describe the theme of the books, and how the author presents it all together is definitely a skill not everybody can brag about. I love hearing you talk and explain things in such an engaging way! Continue with this awesome quality videos
you wrote amazing! ❤️❤️ and i agree whole-heartedly
Brilliant writing Lucia 😄 very readable and I agree entirely.
If you want a couple tips:
Wether is spelled whether (silent h, it's confusing!)
"Continue with this awesome quality videos" is a bit hard to read, but I understand what you mean. Something more accurate would be "Continue with these awesome videos" (this/these refers to the noun in the sentence, which in this case is plural "videos", so the word "this" becomes "these" to match.
And the "awesome quality videos" section is hard because even though it is technically correct, it sounds off somehow. Maybe you could say "high quality videos" or "awesome videos"?
@@Warsnop Thank you! I will be taking all of this into consideration next time :)
entiendo lo que sientes mientras escribes en ingles siendo española, yo igual amiga.

“On to the last book…….” Then footage of a bookstore. Yup, that’s how it goes, get more books before starting on last one you have. 😁
oh my god! I designed that phone case you're using! I am the Elliot named on the case :) so glad you like it!
Woow! That's a beautiful case!!
Funny graphic design man !
The way my design and bookish inspirations have just collided😌 this comment made me irrationally happy!
i love that you are trying to read more translated books! i feel like people who avoid translated books are missing a lot. you should read "Dom Casmurro" by Machado de Assis, that is originally in Brazilian portuguese. i think you would really like it!
Translated books vid coming soon 😎😎😎😎
added to my tbr!
And then tell us if you think Capitu cheated on Bentinho. Let's settle it once and for all.
Im opposite lol. I read translated book so much esp from japanese that i enjoy the style more than ENGLISH english book. I tried reading eng fiction again and found the writing to be too… overly descriptive 💀 like, japanese novels dont say alot. It can be intricate but words used arent “his gaze latches at me; my breath quickened at the revelation” it’s literally just short and simple but does the work.
to me translated books are like..70% on author and 30% on translator, the translator not only need to understand whatthe author’s message is, they also need to translate it in their own words (unlike google translate).
Sometimes you may find different versions of one translated book, and if you really read every single one of them, you can tell the difference between the translators.
This happens to me and therefore I will try to read the original text as much as possible (it is also a great way to learn different languages fast), but normally end up buying a translated book with the original language version😂
I love many things about Jack’s channel. Some of them:
• how inspiring and sweet Jack is
• how amazing the backgrounds and book analyses are
• how he is considering of his trans friends / followers
• how he respects women
• last but not least how Jack’s sponsorships are of recycled/ biodegradable products
We have a brilliant man right there🌹
yes omg hes truly so brilliant in every way!
i just love the fact that jack is an intersectional feminist and a great ally to the lgbtq+ community, as well as bipoc community and other minorities.
Your clips of Paris inlaid with La Vie En Rose were so aesthetic. It's giving dark academia book club. Great video!
Re: mythology. Have you read Emily Wilson's translation of the Odyssey? She examines how, particularly, the women's voices in the poem have traditionally been translated, and basically starts again from scratch. It's absolutely brilliant.
I have not, and although I have already read the E.V Rieu one I will now spend money on another. My book addiction sends its regards.
Hey! I was wondering if you also have a recommendation for a good translation of the Iliad?
There is also a new version of the Arabian Nights out by the first woman translator Yasmine Seale. She focuses in on how previous translations have made it seem like female voices are extraneous to the stories when they are actually the center! It is more of an academic text, but I think it is great that this is starting to happen!
@@cookieswirl232 Never been able to get through the Iliad, but I believe Wilson is working on a translation, so watch this space!
I’ve also heard great things about Maria Dahvana Headley’s translation of Beowulf! It apparently really examines the text from an interesting and feminist perspective (haven’t read yet but it’s on my list)
honestly, i don’t know who told jack his jokes aren’t funny??? but they were lying??? like??? this man is hilarious??
You can't imagine how much I (having a degree in linguistics / translation) appreciate you naming each translator!! They are always overlooked by the society yet do such a massive jobs in bringing foreign books closer to us and giving us an opportunity to read them. So thank you so much for that
“January is my 30 day free trial” Omggggg same 😭
Jack literally got the whole youtube community in his hand. Adding these books to my never ending tbrr.
Han Kang is my favorite Author in the whole world, she's literally the reason I'm learning Korean these days, so many of her works aren't even translated yet. Really happy you liked the Vegetarian!!
I really wanted to hear about Shoko's Smile but I could not take my eyes out of the messed rug on the left corner. Hahahahah
it literally looks like a dead body is under there
Jack, idk if you noticed but we take recommendations by a cute nerdy literature graduate. OFC we have a good taste
It’s a crime that the US didn’t get the same cover for Ariadne as the UK. If I hadn’t gotten the book in a book box I probably would have imported the UK version.
I love videos like this. I feel like it forces you out of your comfort zone and reading books you may have forgotten about ☺️
tbf though, watching Jack do literally anything would fall dead in the center of my comfort zone xD
I don't remember ever being this early. Anyway, thanks Jack for always delivering the quality content we need in times like these
Thank you for being here!!! 🥰
Ahh yes I remember these polls and was wandering when the video would come out! 📚And some of you may have heard but we actually created a BOOK CLUB with the community and there’s over 1,100 of us!📚😎 (details in replies)

"Buying books and reading them are two different hobbies..." I feel called out 😅 Reading Circe at the moment, but looks like I'll be adding Ariadne to my never ending TBR list. I think I'm feeding the buying books hobby more lately 😅
I actually preferred Ariadne above Circe, so you should read it in my opinion
@@misstensecret4156 Definitely buying it next. Hopefully I get around to reading it soon 😊
I really love the little intermissions between the books with the view of Paris! It is so beautiful!
Jack, you should read Human Acts by Han Kang. The second chapter alone is one of the most stunning things I have ever read, and the book as a whole is breathtaking. It is one of my absolute favourites.
The Vegetarian has been on my TBR for way too long, and after your review, I can't wait to pick up a copy!
The more I watch Jack, the more he becomes my favourite youtuber. No video ever misses, the content is ALWAYS impeccable !
I thought ariadne was such a good book!!! I love how it basically came full circle and in the end Ariadne suffered the same fate as all of the women attached to heros, gods, and powerful men. It also speaks to how fate works in mythology. In greek mythology, one cannot escape their fate. Its some what of a final destination movie- no matter how much you try to avoid it, its going to happen anyways.

i love the clips of paris in between books and your descriptions of the books themselves were wonderful
i add every book you read immediately to my already overflowing tbr

jack, thanks for helping me find my love of reading again! just added a couple more books to my "to read" list. thanks again and all the best! ❤
If you want to read more non-English books I suggest you My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante, it’s an saga on the life of two women in post WW2 Italy and I think you would love it. It’s one of my favorite pieces of literature and Shakespeare and Co. has all of them!
Ah, here he is! The superhero who saves the world from boredom and illiteracy. Super Jack.✨
Why is the video so stunning? I’m obsessed ✨
i have a trip to paris planned in a few weeks and your videos just feed my excitement, i’m SO going to walk into EVERY bookstore i see and buy way too many books thanks to your amazing recs
Jack you have officially reignited my love for books. Funnily enough I read completely different things (I'm a fantasy reader) but hearing you gush about books has inspired me to pick my reading habit back up. Thank you!

i dont read much at all but i truly love shoko's smile. specifically the first story with the exchange student dynamic. really incredible to me
This light-blue sweater you wore is great!
When I moved from the USA to the UAE we couldn't fit all of the books we wanted and all of our cloths.... so we bought vacuum bags. Saves SO. MUCH. SPACE.

im enjoying watching your videos even though im not much of a book reader myself. your passion for books rubs on me, i kinda wanna read one rn.
"do my followers have taste?" jack. we follow you. is the answer not clear? **passive-aggressive glare**
I love how all the books in my tbr list are books you've recommended. I swear all I do in my free time is read and watch your videos. Not complaining though.
i think you're now my favorite booktube channel
Jack’s taste in books is always chef’s kiss! On the side note, Jack in a yellow shirt looks so soft 🤍🥺
I'm so glad your favorite story in Shoko's Smile is the same as mind. I find myself half crying at the end of this story. It hits too close to home for me.
The Paris opera house!!!!!! I love it there🥺❤️🥺❤️🥺❤️
Every time I go to university my book luggage takes up more space than my clothes luggage :'D
This made me super excited to read shoko's smile!!
i see a notification for a new jack edwards video, i click
I'm in love with your copy of Ariadne it looks so pretty
You should do "A booklover´s guide to Paris", or just a Paris guide showing your favorite spots in general- I would very much enjoy that!
You could include bookshops you like (especially English bookshops ofc) and other bookish places, spots frequented by famous writers or spots where certain famous novels are set, as well as books set in Paris for those who aren't so fortunate to be able to visit Paris soon (and those who just like to read about Paris ofc).
Love love the books as always but the scenes of opera Garnier pulled on my heart strings this time considering i was walking in those same rooms just one week ago ✨ Enjoy Montmartre!! 💛
jack's videos are so engaging and fun that I don't even skip the sponsorship
Every time you make a pun I do the little “ba dum tssss” thing with my hands and I just thought you should know that xx
I am completly speachless. Thanks so much for sharing this kind of a gift that is to communicate art and literature with us. And those scenes, damn, that was good hehe
I just wish I could find these books and a lot others in my native tongue (Portuguese). So yeah, great video, edits, clips, sayings, jokes, breathing... hahaha

Jack and Steph posting on the same day!!???
I'm so glad you got to read The vegetarian! I simply adore that book. Personally, I think it was brilliant how the whole story revolves around her and her decision but we merely get to actually read her voice; we only get to "know her" through other people's eyes. So subtle but devastating at the same time.
That quote from Shoko's Smile...not my deepest fear put into words. 🙃
I’m reading Memorial rn!!! 🧡 the b-roll of Versailles stopppp 🤩 I really want to read The Whole Picture!
As a UCT alum who was studying during Rhodes must fall it's so cool hearing international youtubers talk about those issues.
There's so much to speak about in and around that RMF - shoutout to Jack for mentioning it in this video!!
yesss new season of jack in paris
I bought the vegetarian when I was traveling in Scotland last year, and now I am officially going to read it! Thank you so much! Can’t wait!
Jack I love you even more after seeing you support people like me.
Yayay u made it back to Paris! :)
the outfits in this video *chef's kiss*
For uni, I had to take a lot of art critique classes and Ive started reading the whole picture. I must say, its a really good and hollistic analysis. If you liked that, John Berger’s “Ways of Seeing” are also as accessible compared to other books about the art world. His essay on the male gaze is something I constantly reference.
Additionally as someone from the Philippines, its so annoying when people say that wokeness is killing the art scene when actually, theyre just killing the purely white, male art world. ARGH!!
The vegetarian was and is an amazing book! I can still remember the story and feelings clearly after years, it's gut wrenching and it lingers for a long time!
I love how Santham Sanghera talks about mental health and empire… so great!
I really love short story collections, and I really wish I saw them more on booktube. And I agree, it can be hard to review or rate them because the stories are different from one another and it is tempting to give each story a rating and work out the average. But I usually end up rating it as a collection in the end
I literally love your video’s, like you’re my comfort RUclipsr🥰🥰
