"Well... they may have acted improperly, but they believed they were right. We're going to call that "good faith" and give them immunity." Society backs them. "Oh... they have a tough job. So they made a mistake. What's the harm? Just comply and make it easy on yourself. What's the big deal anyways? If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear." But we all know it's complete bullsh!t. The cops have learned the catch phrases that are their free passes. Phrases like "I thought it was a weapon," "I smell drugs," "We got a call," "We have concerns," and "I feared for my safety." They lie. Why? Because there's no consequence. No actual harm comes to their feet. Violate rights? It's fine. Chief will back me. Hurt someone? It's fine. The force will pay for my lawyer. K!ll someone? It's fine. Just write their family a check. That's why we have insurance. They're not going to fire me because I'll just grieve it and get my job back or, worst case scenario, I'll "resign" and go to the next town. Until there is personal, substantial consequence there will be no change. We all know this. The cost of actual deterrence has to be high. Take speeding... we know it's wrong. We do it anyways because the costs don't outweigh the benefit. We know enforcement is low and, when caught, the personal impact is minimal. M*rder? Different story. Violating rights is just the cop version of speeding. They know enforcement is few and far between and, when caught, the personal impact is non-existant. When the attitude is "go ahead and sue me" there is an obvious lack of deterrence and fear of consequences of court decisions. When you see body worn video of police cowering behind cruisers as lead flies around them, there is an obvious fear of immediate consequences. I have my opinion as to which is more effective deterrent value.
Never let them dismiss a case! They always sign up for the long haul. Think of it like they are the Donner Party and they will eat each other! Full display required for transparency!

But there are too many of them, who look at the political part of there careers.it’s very rare to have a public defender who actually argues for your rights. Everyone of them I have used. Have done really nothing. But I’ve paid for lawyers who have done nothing more. The last lawyer I hired. Who is suppose to be what of the top law firms around here. But I spoke to one of the partners every time I went to their office. Had tfe other partner represent me. He seemed to have no clue what his partner and I spoke about. Instead of filing a motion to dismiss like I thought he was doing. He comes to me with a plea bargain, Like they made a plan at lunch the day before to team up on me and leave me with no hope to be innocent on something I didn’t do. Only a plea deal, that I was urged to take. Because they would not offer it again. After confronting my lawyer about it. He had nothing to say. I felt alone and that nobody had my best interest in mind. It was a horrible sickening feeling. They were deceitful.
I’m really sorry. I know this happens WAY more often than it should and it puts a person in a no win situation. Always remember to put those things on the record: I haven’t received proper representation. Firing attorneys is A-ok too.
