My dad was there, a place spoken of in hushed tones. What’s bravery of these men, I’ll prepared for the sights and conditions in a far off land. Rest in peace brothers in arms
Very moving. Memories of my father who served in 1960-1961. Unfortunately they were just pawns in the Belgian recolonization and their greed for control of Katanga and the mines.
Down through the years brave Irish men served overseas and many gave their lives, why then have so many respective Governments let them down so badly, certainly up to the 1980s by providing them with shit out of date equipment. Yes equipment has improved in later years but now they need family income supplement so they can afford to eat
As a former British soldier and a former Royal marine I take my hat off to the members of the Irish defense forces past and present especially those who served in the Congo and Lebanon in the early days. I know two of these men and it is my honour and privilege to call them friend and brothers in arms, we should have been with you. Now you know why marines will never come under UN control they are the biggest assholes for leaving guys in the shit especially ones who have come to help. I always said FIGHTING for peace is like FUCKING for virginity. Your government delayed your just deserves while giving themselves big payouts and pensions. How about bringing home the two men still missing, I'm sure that would impress some former Congo veterans. Keep the faith brothers a lot of us believe in you guys
Michael your quite right iwas in the Inniskilling dragoons and the guys from north and south were great to soldier with and again in the marines with a boss like Paddy ashdown you could not ask for better. The way defense forces were treated after the Congo and again after Lebanon and by the rate of pay from the government is shamefull, these guys are there for the country it's a pity the country isn't there for them.
Great presentation of great men & great days. Oglaigh na hÈireann Abù.
