This was a great performance. I know there are a lot out here who love Santana and there was a lot of time that I did as well. But this particular storyline of Santana auditioning for the understudy role was definitely underhanded and sneaky. Santana never had any Broadway ambitions (even Brittany pointed that out to her when they were sitting together talking )but when Rachel gets the role of a lifetime all of a sudden Santana goes for the understudy.??? No, it wasn’t right. Especially when you consider they were rebuilding a friendship. From the end of high school into college they were getting back on track and I really liked the friendship. Yes they had their moments because of Brody and whatever else, but I really enjoyed seeing their friendship develop. But again the storyline wasn’t right. and the episode where Santana blasted Rachel in front of the whole glee club when they were all visiting the school again and Mercedes comforted Rachel in the bathroom , that wasn’t right either. Santana came out of nowhere with that. Let’s not forget that Santana just showed up on their doorstep in New York and forced her way in staying with Kurt and Rachel. I am just purely speaking on Santana not Naya. I would never speak badly of Naya. She was great as Santana, and an amazing voice. Rambling aside, this performance is incredible from both of them. Their voices go so well together. And this is not one of those numbers for Rachel is belting it or overdoing it and I think it sounds really good. They both sound really good . all the time….. Idk if anyone else has noticed but has anyone noticed that Rachel is consistently leaning towards Santana whenever she sings a line… like almost in her space. As if she is jealous of her confidence. While on the other hand Santana is standing strong in her lines but her lines talk about missing Rachels friendship. Basically Rachel’s insecurities make her lose her friendships and if Glee was real life… it’s highly unlikely that Mercedes, Tina, Sam, Santana, or Kurt would have stayed with her past high school. I wish that Rachel had grown from her mistakes but episode after episode we saw her do the same self centered things again and again. Yes everyone else get hate too and none of them were saints… expect maybe Rory and Mercedes… but all the other characters grew even if they did have setbacks
Like sure, the lead and understudy hating each other is a classic trope for theatre dramas, but also Rachael mad at Santana for auditioning to be an understudy seemed kind of selfish and insecure.
meh i could disagree if i was in rachel’s position.. i mean think of it like this, you work your ass off you spend 4 years of high school to be where you are and have direction and goals and someone who’s tormented you does it so easily who also has no goals and no direction and does it just to probably spite you. i would be mad too. all of rachel’s actions lead her to where she is now her brand is funny girl and for someone who obviously hates her and has called her many names just to get understudy like that- it just wouldn’t make sense to another character.
