Mae Well, yes they didn't get along in real life, but the whole point of acting is to act something different than reality. Lots of actors that hate each other have played characters that are best friends, or actors that love each other in real life have played characters that are mortal enemies. They are actors, after all. So Lea and Naya's real feelings toward each other shouldn't have had to influence the on-screen relationship between Rachel and Santana. It's of course possible that the writers would have wanted to keep Rachel and Santana fighting for the sake of drama regardless of the actors' real-life relationship, but still, it would have been nice to see their characters get along more. Just because two people are different it doesn't necessarily mean that they can't get along. For some people it's even easier to get along well with someone who is the opposite of themselves rather than with someone who is too similar. But I if I were an actress and a screen writer used my real-life dislike for a co-star as inspiration for our characters' fighting, I think that that might cause me to stop and think ”Wait, are we really acting this childishly in real life?” and maybe try harder to get along with that person.
