I was a salesman for a large ready mix supplier in Southern California who unlike many of my colleagues started my career in concrete as a laborer on a pool deck crew and eventually retired as a regional salesman for a integral color company. . I learned to set forms and finish which proved valuable when working with both large and small contractors. All that to say this...I would have loved to have you as a customer. In all my years in the "biz" I ran across few contractors with the depth of knowledge and hands on experience you exhibit. It's no wonder you're a huge success....It ain't mud, it's concrete!!
And as we go down the bumpy road of demographic collapse (not to mention other forms of collapse), there will be even fewer people (like the ones above) who have such high skill levels.
Wow what an excellent video from you guys working in a 90’s heat, you would not get guys in the UK even attempting to do this type of job in that type of heat.
hey mr odell, I did a video on a sod cutter, it would have been perfect for this job. It makes easy work out of that grass. anyways good stuff and good video again. *HAVE U EVER USED A SOD CUTTER?*
2 jobs In one day! Bet you’re really proud of your boy. On the other hand these are truly inspiring videos for some reason, thanks for the great content.
Great job, I will soon be doing a shed slab myself, you've very good details, plus you are only person to mention "oiling" the forms and tge "fiber mesh", I've looked at a number of videos and no one else has mentioned that. Thanks again
Haven't come across any videos of concrete pouring that are as well done as this.. I would hire these guys to pour concrete for me great job.. Especially if they did 3.5 slump @ 90* 💯
When you run stiff concrete like this is it harder to pull up the creme? Will it have a stronger surface finish since there’s less chance of incorporating the bleed water into the creme?
Question for ya: to save on cost, would a concrete company normally allow me to excavate, compact, put down base and form up the area and put down rebar, so all they have to do is pour and make it pretty? Trying to save cost as much as possible cause it's a 11x30 slab I need poured.
Ty mr odell always great work ,i have been learning alot with your vids over the years and im learning alot ,,my first pour will be my own driveway its not very big but will be a good starter for me since it will be my first, feel confident bc of you sharing all your knowledge thanks alot
Great job! I wish your company was here in Georgia. Can you tell me what are the different types of concrete finishes? I know of the broom finish just didn’t know about the others.
Hi there Odell. Amazing work as always. I notice you mentioned the concrete was 3500 PSI but in the UK what would be the mix for a shed base using a mixer and concrete? Which type of sand etc. For brick laying over here it's typically a 4 part building sand with one part concrete as far as I'm aware but for a shed base what would be a good mix? Many thanks and apologies for disturbing you.
If you really care about somebody, you set them up not to need you!! RESPECT! I WORK FOR MY STEPDAD FOR 10 YEARS AND ALL HE DOES IS KEEP ME DOWN.. Gotta hide the side work! But after you do some side work you learn your worth and it's a lot more than what he's paying
I’ve seen many of your videos. The concrete looks good after the bull float. What would happen if you stopped there? What’s the purpose of the on the knees work?
Nice and simple. So at what size slap would you recommend a “footer” boarder? You recently did another shed slab like this but it had a footer. Maybe based on the weight of the shed/building being built on the slab?
Curious, is it more difficult to get the cream to the top with a stiffer mix (slump).. ? I see they are working it pretty good, but I can't tell by watching.
Hi team! I noticed there was no base before the concrete pour, like gravel or sand. How come? Im looking to do the same but sometimes I see concrete workers adding a base and other dont. If it helps, im in Texas. Maybe its based on region? Love the videos!
I love these "beginner" style videos. Great Job on this project as always. Would you mind sharing your formula for estimating how many yards of concrete you need?
I notice you don't use much expansion strips when you butt up against a building or existing concrete. Most of the contractors use them in my area in the Midwest. I enjoy watch and learning your tricks of the trade, sadly our craftsmanship is falling by the wayside. I just followed you on FB, and If you sell any polo shirts, I would like to purchase one. PS, good job Tyler.. Thanks again..JC
Planning to do a concrete pad for shed, really cool techniques. In NZ, they use different terminology and building codes but principles still the same.
just curious, if you pour the slab but then realized you screwed up your forms and din't make it wide enough, can you add new forms extended out by about 4 or 5 inches, and pour some new concrete?
Little tip brother, build ya timber square first lay it in position and spray around the outside, that gives you your dig out area, saves time with string line 🤙
Your videos are very good. I've watched several. Noone talks about the time variances between the pour, bull float, mag trowell, getting on it, and finial finish. I'm doing a 18x20 pole barn with one guy & myself in a week. Any tips on timing?
Honest Question. I see you (or your son maybe) was on top of the concrete with those leg things. How long is until you can do that? Also are those actual tools or something you guys use for that purpose?
@@OdellCompleteConcrete got it. I have 32 employees, and my only son is one of them. He’s still young, so it may or may not always be that way, but I guess I will just enjoy it while it lasts. I am actually located in Arizona now, I saw that you have a property up in Fort Mojave, really cool.
my question would be why no stone or compacting under the cement...seen a lot of these videos and no one uses stone under..i am in new jersey and have not seen any job that doesn't use stone or compact the ground...is this just a short cut ?
This is the second video I watched from you,the first one you mentioned that you used a base of crushed concrete, any reason why you didn’t use a base this time?

Several contractors in our area(Opelika/Auburn, AL) quoted us $4k+ for similar sized concrete pad for our back yard. So jealous we do not have quality workmanship like you and your son around here.
A turf cutter or stand behind tiller ,would make things easier,u could of raised the slab height and ramp down to step ,u would have to box slab a bit larger than shed ,nice job.
Ugh. After about 3-4 months, my slab starts showing fine hair crack and the surface start chipping after some rainy day and then some freezing day. My guess is the water expansion by the freezing night time. How to fix it and prevent it? Maybe use very high dense concrete?
