as someone who has been researching cat products all day to learn what to get when I am able to get a cat next year, this video could not have been more appropriately timed!
Another good idea for your new munchkin is a safe collar. If your cat will be able to go outside, it’s a good idea to put a collar and identification tag on them. That way if they wander or are hurt. The person who has found them can phone you. The tag needs a phone number ( the one you have on you the most) your last name or the cats name. If the cat is spayed/neutered. Make sure the collar is a safety collar. All that means is, if your cat gets the collar caught on something, the fastener will just undo and the cat is free. It’s simple but it will prevent any awful accidents or death of your cat. If you put the collar on the kitten as soon as you get him/her it won’t bother them as much because they’ll be too busy playing and generally being a kitten to notice too much.
hey so based on this video and the one about kitten food- i bought wellness core ( turkey and chicken liver pate) and instinct. My kittens have not taken well to wellness and have been throwing up to the point of lethargy. I had to rush them to the emergency vet in the middle of the night. I asked the vet about wellness and he said he hadn't heard of the brand and he said that the big 3 that he reccomends are Purina, Hill Science and Royal Canin. He said those 3 are the ones which have actual evidence backing them. Now I could've just gotten a bad batch of wellness food too but thought I'd put this out there. Another piece of advice he gave me was to try to stick to one type of wet food and not change up the brands too much. I was surprised since in one video by this channel- I remember you encouraged viewers to change up a kittens food so that they don't become picky eaters incase a brand becomes discontinued- which made sense to me too. However, the same vet told me changing up the brands too much can cause physiological stress to kittens and adult cats alike, which could be the cause of the vomiting. P.S: My kittens are 3.5 months old.
One more item: Definitely get a recommendation for a good veterinarian and line-up that first vet visit for the new kitten. Some vet clinics will even discount initial visits if you adopt a cat from the local shelter.
A vet checkup and getting any shots, deworm, de-flea, etc. are essential for any kitten or cat. Also to schedule spay/neuter. You may have vet info on what care a kitten or cat got, if you're adopting from a shelter or pet store. Good. But bring the kitty in for a checkup by your local vet to be sure. Some vet clinics offer discounts for newly adopted pets, and some offer discounts for a mama cat and/or a litter of kittens. Vets can generally work with you. Better to know what you're dealing with than for it to get worse because you delayed or didn't know. You want your new buddy to be as healthy and happy and strong as they can be.
My 21 year old cat passed just over 6 months ago and he always used to stand on cabinets or other higher objects until he got into his more senior years when he would only be able to make it onto the sofa back and he would stand there, I had no idea it was because of what you mentioned about them feeling more certain or powerful! He did have a tower but literally never even went near it 🤣
All your videos are so perfect and to the point, no beating around the bush. Your shots and editing is so professional too! Absolutely love it. Dont feel like I wasted even a second when watching your videos
I have to say, your videos are so professional and well done, and you are so therapeutic to listen to. Could fall asleep to it like a streamer. Thanks for the video, Mallory!
before my cats came into my care, they were living in my dad's home. he was extremely paranoid that they would scratch end tables, sofa, etc. yet they only had one scratcher ( a door hanging one) they used it as well as furniture. i had a post for them when they came here and they go right for it. don't even think about using the sofa.
awww this time last year was when i started buying all my first kitten supplies, can’t believe time flies by so fast and +1 on the tip on brushing, i brushed my long haired kitten before every meal and now he loves being brushed!!! should have done more for dental health though
My adopted cat has seriously thick claws. I trim them regularly because they actually curl around. Thanks for the tip on the kitten feet though. I just got one and will need to get her adapted to getting her nails trimmed as well.
My mom gave my kitten away because she was annoyed I came back from school with his treats and I couldn’t find him so I asked my mom and she said that she gave him away I cried for days i didn’t want to do anything we had such a strong bond together and that to be taken away hurts a lot..

This is a very good and informative video. I like that you cover all things but also don't over complicate what new kittens need. A lot of people can become overwhelmed thinking they need lots of things or might get the wrong things. You don't need anything expensive or crazy. Just make sure the cat has enough entertainment, comfort and food.
I've loved your videos! I've no joke watched almost every single one of them and im so excited you made this one! I'm going to be adopting a cat soon and your videos and posts are so informational. No joke I think your youtube channel is so underrated

I haven't had any real time to prep for my new kitten- he got abandoned outside of my mother's friend's business only a few days ago- but i'm doing my best to play catch up!
The best thing to get when adopting a new kitten or cat is another kitten or cat. If you’ve lost a cat and want that special sort of company from new kittens replace as much as possible. Even after being washed etc they don’t seem too keen on second hand gear.
Kittens go through a long phase where they begin to climb and jump. This is exercise and learning, play and exploration. They NEED this. They may drive you nuts climbing and jumping on anything in sight! :) So a cat tree / tower is a great idea for any cat or kitten. It gives them a high place to survey their world and a safe place to nap or play or hang out. (I need to get a new one.) -- Cat-proof your home like you would child-proof it. But glass bottles and cleaning supplies ma need to o into a latched / doorknob cabinet, and be aware kittens are likely to get bored and try climbing almost anywhere at some point. -- You may need to buy child-proof latches for cabinets or doors. Cats can learn how to open cabinets without latches, and even closet or room doors, and they will try out the same techniques on other doors. When one cat learns, the others can sometimes learn it too, or else they let the clever one do it for them. Because, cats. :)
Puppy / Kitten Training Pads / "Wee-Wee" Pads -- can be a good precaution right outside the litter box, both for kittens and for elder cats. If a cat or kitten spits up a hairball or food, then after cleaning up the spot, a training pad placed there for a while can be a good option. Note: Sometimes the cat will let it be, but sometimes they will want to "cover" it by scraping their paws, digging aoround the spot to cover it. That's OK. It's generally easier to throw out a training pad than to clean the bare floor or carpet. -- This helped tremendously when my senior cat, now gone, had digestive system trouble, both ends, during his last couple of years of life. It made it much easier to care for him and clean up accidents. I learned too not to fuss at him or scold him, but to be sympathetic and just clean it up. He couldn't help it. -- It's the same with young kittens. They will usually learn litterbox training very quickly, though, as covering up their waste is instinctive, almost. Once shown how and a few trial runs, kittens usually figure this out with few to no accidents. They are usually very clean, when healthy and not under emotional trouble. But especially young kittens have accidents in any behavior, just like babies and toddlers. They learn fast.
My roommate's cat had issues with whisker fatigue and refused to eat out of a bowl. We both started feeding our cats off plates from the thrift store! It was only $0.50 for a set of 6 plates vs $5.00 for a shallow ceramic cat bowl at the pet store
Hi! May i also put out another consideration with cat carriers? I am a vet assistant, so often I am the one in my vet office to hold the kitties for vet. This also includes enticing them to come out of their carriers when they arrive. Many cats are extremely fearful and won't walk out on their own. So having (ideally) a hard shell cover with a lid that easily cant be taken off/put back on. Means that your vet office is able to safely take them out while minimizing the amount of stress. Even tho many soft shell carriers have an opening on the top, it is often not large enough to safely get our hands (and sometimes a towel to wrap them in aswell) inside to lift your kitty out. Moreover when you unzip any part of the carrier they often collapse. Again making it extremely difficult for us to safely transfer your pet. It is just another consideration! So maybe the hard shell should be the first pick but then if you do a lot of traveling you could always look into a soft shell in the future? *I am "fear free" certified (you can google it if you want) but it means i have taken courses on how to minimize stress for animals at the vet hospital. And with that course a hardshell carrier is again the top recommendation for vet visits
Ahhhh, branded merch....the $$$ will start to roll in. Nothing wrong with making money doing something you are truly passionate about. I am cheering for you! Maybe do some contests. Other tubers give entries for posting about your channel in other places. Seems to work VERY well!
Thank you for the tips. One suggestion is access to Electrical power cables, like on computers. Just spent couple weeks de cluttering, but more dusting (Maids year off). Have two computer stations and realized 20% of cables were not even in use, and what could I put in a drawer. Sour Apple spray might be all that is needed, yet some reviews are negative on them working. Put Sour A. spray on cable, then a 1/2" split loom to keep a few cables within, and spray it down, all while unplugged, then zip ties to keep it closed in few spots. Use only Flush Cutters to cut the tie wraps or you could injure your cat. Maybe not good if your kitten likes plastic. Mine being 7 mos old was a requirement to adopting her. Then drilled hole in each end of small plastic bin large with locking clips enough to house surge protector, etc.and put on top of computer. Test will be Sunday if it works. Also have done before bringing kitten home if like 4 mos or older, cats seem to gain interest if something changes. Just my two cents. Feel free to delete comment. Thanks

Mallory, have you reviewed backpack cat carriers? I'm a travel nurse, and me and my cat Sushi travel the US. Sushi walks on a leash, but has a tendency to stop when she gets tired or something or someone will freak her out and she wants me to carry her. This kinda limits what we go see. I was thinking, if I had a good backpack carrier I could take her with me on longer walks- which frankly I need to walk more. I love your videos and would like a shirt or hat.
Does your kitten play "fetch"? I've noticed on Kitten Academy, the momcats , as well as various kittens always seem to lock in on Mr "A", as soon as he scrunches up a bit of paper, names 1 of the Momcats quivering w/ excitement. He names 1 of the cats, looks straight at her, holds his arm up,& opens his hand to show the item they're going to "fetch". Then he throws the object,& the named Momcats goes after. the object, If she finds it, & picks it up, he tells her to bring it to him, & throws it again. This game continues til she's tired of it. The item used for kittens/ cats to chas can be anything they can easily pick up in mouth, & carry the object to you.The small fuzzy mice are favorites ,tho they usually don't make noise when they land, or hit the wall, etc. However a mall block, or button or anything similar that can be sewn inside the mouse, or tied on ribbon or a shoelace tied round the neck. The ,erm, downside of this game comes, when your sweet pet brings "gifts" to family members, or friends who may be a tad squeemish about getting half eaten mice, or mashed, but living worm, garter snakes, etc. as " gifts". It needs to be made clear to the intended recipient of the gifts, that cats or kittens won't understand their upset, & eventually the gifs will stop if they don't react. But, if they keep getting excited, & squeal, or scream... kitty will decide is a new game, with their reaction being the new desired result! complete w/ running about squeeling, screaming, arm waving
The things they expect to see. Because they are following the Momcat's rules, to keep the litter fed & healthy. So , kitten sees you DO NOT hunt... yikes, you might starve! "Not Good" , so they undertake to hunt for you. it's sweet really! When you react w/ general hysteria, they gradually change to "game mode." & that's where the conversion of your reaction comes in. 😀😽😻❤️❤️❤️😍😍🤩🤩 . Soooooo we don't react, at all. They'll soon get bored & go do something else.... or eat, sleep, chase birds, bugs, or other critters.

your videos are incredible. ive had an interest in cats for all my life and theres definitely years worth of self learning compressed into each video. i work at a pet store so i reccomend you to anyone looking for cat info (especially because of the choice between captioned video or blog post!). thank you for assissting so many people in understanding and making their cat's lives better.
this is such perfect timing since i am planning to get a cat soon but really want to make sure i have everything planned out before i do so so my cat feels most at home when i adopt especially since this will be my first cat :)
Love ur suggestion on cat proofing. I stay in a Country with apartment being the norm. To add on to list, here in Singapore we put alot of focus on Window screen meshing, as most cases of cat death come from falling of the window ledge.
As a first-time cat mom, I’ve found your channel so, so helpful! Would love a review of the best dental products for cats in the future! (Toothpastes, brushes, water additives, chews etc)
I never even thought about trimming my cats' nails until they got very old. Their claw sheaths aren't shed regularly now and I have to cut them out they'll curl back into their pawpads. I know a lot about cats but I did not foresee that particular aspect of them growing old!
Evening, my family and I would like to say thank you. Your channel has been truly informative. We added a new member to our family. An 8 week old tabby. We purchased all of our kitten needs per your suggestions. Once again thank you. A question, what is the best kitten food to buy for her?
I'm honored to hear that your family's found the channel helpful! Congratulations on your new kitten. You might appreciate our video on the best kitten food: ruclips.net/video/Gn6WkhGeQwc/видео.html
I’m 99.9% sure I’m getting a new cat for my birthday. Me and parents have already talked about and my grandmas cat just had kittens so it’s like perfect timing. We came up with the name ringo
I’m getting a kitten she will be 8 weeks old but I ordered a two level smaller cat tree for now cuz I was scared to get one to big at first but maybe that wasn’t the best choice but I’ll see how it goes I planned on upgrading once she gets alittle bigger I was just nervous to start out to tall cuz she’s so little
Ooh, I’m excited for the best harnesses video, I’ve been having a hard time finding a more secure harness for my 8mo kitten (she’s a siamese mix with a narrow body/chest and all the more secure harnesses seem too wide on her especially in the chest between her arms)! Currently using the come with me kitty one which is nice because it’s so adjustable, but I’m afraid she might be able to get out of it as I’ve read some cats can get out of it since it’s just straps.
Hey! Thank you so much for this video, it was extremely helpful! I’m thinking about getting a cat when I get older and was wondering, if any cat owners could answer my question? I was wondering how frequently do you have to brush your kitten’s teeth, fur, and clip their nails? So that I know and don’t keep my kitten unhealthy. Daily, weekly?

Thank you very much. I wish that I had found about you before I found the two kittens at 9 weeks. they have been with me 4 days. I need help. thank you and my kittens thank you. I need to get the water flower fountain to work and a workable healthy food. Bye 👋
Hi there. Temptations treats do contain a lot of high-carb ingredients, so you could argue that they are loaded up with sugar. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much ash they contain.
My concern rn is for my cat to be safe in my home. I can manage keeping the house clean and not leaving things laying out, but how often do cats chew on electrical cords? Cus I’m nervous my cat will sneak behind the tv and start chewing cords when I’m not home. I obviously just don’t want him to get electrocuted. Is this a common thing that cats do and I should take steps to completely avoid(blocking off the cords better for example) it BEFORE I bring him home? Or just watch him and see if he even finds interest in the cords
I save everything I want for me new kitten next is clean and kitten proof are house praying I can have it done for valentine's day as feb 2 is my birthday and jan 13th we put are cat down it was horrible 2023 started off bad
Hi Yamile, good question! A Sphynx is going to be very similar to any other cat, so the tips in this video should apply to you as well. The only other thing I'd mention is that you'll want to bathe your new kitty on a fairly regular basis, so you should also get your hands on a good shampoo: ruclips.net/video/wVYo1S2r2Do/видео.html
Softsided carriers don't work for my girl, she keeps pushing on the netting to get out so she hurts her nose. But it works well with my boy, so we have one of each.
Um I'm definitely saving this video for when I decide to get a couple kittens one day. I have a 10 yr old cat rn but I do want to continue being a cat mama/guardian after he passes. I will b looking to get a couple young cats or kittens. Is it best to try getting a second kitten from the same litter of kittens btw? I was wondering if itd help them get along better.
What is the cat harness you put on your cat in this video? It's not the same one as in the link as yours is velcro on here and the link one has clips. Is velcro no good? Seems so much kinder.
Hi Ellie, thanks for the question! The harness shown here is the Petoodles harness, and it's no longer available for sale. A similar product is the Kitty Holster: www.chewy.com/kitty-holster-cat-harness-purple/dp/134274

That’s cat is liven heaven right now
bringing home our very first kitten next week! hes 5 months old thank you for this going on a shopping spree for him bits tomorrow :)
My roommate's cat had issues with whisker fatigue and refused to eat out of a bowl. We both started feeding our cats off plates from the thrift store! It was only $0.50 for a set of 6 plates vs $5.00 for a shallow ceramic cat bowl at the pet store
happy March yallll🐸
Thank you for sharing your perspective, Katie! This is very helpful.
super informative . thanks!
HOW DID YOU KNOW IM GETTING A KITTEN IN 17 DAYS!!!!!
Cats very nice and very beautiful ❤️
Ahhhh, branded merch....the $$$ will start to roll in. Nothing wrong with making money doing something you are truly passionate about. I am cheering for you! Maybe do some contests. Other tubers give entries for posting about your channel in other places. Seems to work VERY well!
Thanks for the support, Stephan!
Thanks
I absolutely love howthorough you are! I just subscribed even though I have had cats for 27 years= 4 different ones X)

Hi William, we plan to review backpack carriers very soon. Thank you!
@@AllAboutCatsYT I look forward to it.
@@AllAboutCatsYT fantastic!
Wow, Your list is very useful. I just got a cute kitten. This list is very useful for me to buy cat essentials. Thank you for the video, Mallory!
I like how all the talking is going on, cameras are rolling and the cat is in the back sleeping like nothing is happening. :)
My kitten LOVES to play with my hair bands and rolled up paper balls.......as soon as she hears paper being frumbled she comes running....😄
But, if they keep getting excited, & squeal, or scream... kitty will decide is a new game, with their reaction being the new desired result! complete w/ running about squeeling, screaming, arm waving
all are kittys desired results.
gifts

I have the same cat scratcher and my cats LOVE it
Yay, glad your cats love it!
Would have loved to see a dry food for this list as always great video
purina makes some good ones ive heard that Blue brand gives cancer so thats one i wouldnt get
@@titostacos114 I’ve been trying to find good ones I found one by blackwood
They take up more space, but I think the hard plastic carriers are easier to get the cat in, especially if you have an escape artist.
Just got a kitten, looking forward to the harness video !
:)
This video is really helpful because I am getting 2 Kitten in October so thank you so much for making this video : )
So glad it was helpful, Richard! All the best to you and your new babies!
I like that cat pillow on the shelf Way..cool
That's a really good point! Thank you for sharing.
I'm excited for the harness review video! yay merch!
My mom is letting me get a kitten and I’ve been browsing and researching what I’ll need and how much it’ll cost before I even get a kitten.
I’m 99.9% sure I’m getting a new cat for my birthday. Me and parents have already talked about and my grandmas cat just had kittens so it’s like perfect timing. We came up with the name ringo
I'm gonna adopt a kitten soon!
Thank you so much for this amazing video~💚
Your cat channel is awesome... and you have a very calming voice
I’m getting a kitten she will be 8 weeks old but I ordered a two level smaller cat tree for now cuz I was scared to get one to big at first but maybe that wasn’t the best choice but I’ll see how it goes I planned on upgrading once she gets alittle bigger I was just nervous to start out to tall cuz she’s so little
Thanks for the help I would love to get a cat very soon so this helped alot thank you
Ooh, I’m excited for the best harnesses video, I’ve been having a hard time finding a more secure harness for my 8mo kitten (she’s a siamese mix with a narrow body/chest and all the more secure harnesses seem too wide on her especially in the chest between her arms)! Currently using the come with me kitty one which is nice because it’s so adjustable, but I’m afraid she might be able to get out of it as I’ve read some cats can get out of it since it’s just straps.
this is so random but this camera quality is amazing
It's nice to hear that you think so! Shot on a Fujifilm XT30-a relatively budget-friendly mirrorless. :)
Mallory is so amazing, love her content
Thank you so much for this!!! I just got a baby orange tabby and I’m soooo excited ❤️

I’m gonna be a cat owner in a few weeks! Tysm
this was very helpful video with a lot of information

3 months is normal. Sometimes they are evened spayed at 2 months. It depends on their weight.
honestly, besides the very useful info, you are so beautiful.
Thank you very much.
I wish that I had found about you before I found the two kittens at 9 weeks. they have been with me 4 days. I need help. thank you and my kittens thank you. I need to get the water flower fountain to work and a workable healthy food. Bye 👋
I’m getting a kitten as an ESA hopefully this weekend if not then two weeks later, once I get my paycheck
Great advice. 🐱
Glad you think so!
7:58 .... Are the TEMPTATION TREATS, loaded up with Sugar and Ash ??
Hi there. Temptations treats do contain a lot of high-carb ingredients, so you could argue that they are loaded up with sugar. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much ash they contain.
@@AllAboutCatsYT thank you for your reply
Wesy was so cute sitting in the back
My concern rn is for my cat to be safe in my home.
I save everything I want for me new kitten next is clean and kitten proof are house praying I can have it done for valentine's day as feb 2 is my birthday and jan 13th we put are cat down it was horrible 2023 started off bad
awesome video ! 😸
The side eye with the harness 😂😂
Informativ and helpfull channel, thanks for share.

Hi !! Going to get a Sphynx this Month any different recommendations for me
Hi Yamile, good question!
