Guys, I'm sorry, this one came a bit late again, cutting this 150min long movie down without leaving major parts out took a very long time. I hope you guys enjoy it! I definitely had an awesome time with this incredible movie! Have you seen The Last Waltz? It’s a music documentary. Kind of a classic. I haven’t watched a reaction to it. So I’m not sure it will suit. A couple good music films based on true (ish) stories. - Ray - What’s Love Got To Do With It - Almost Famous The most recent version of A Star is Born is 100% fiction, but quite good, especially if you like Lady Gaga.
There's many Behind the Scenes videos about the making of the movie. For the Wembley crowd...there were about 500 extras then green screen. The voice you hear is a mixture of Freddie, Rami Malek ( actor), and singer Marc Martel who sounds a lot like Freddie. Yes, the actors learned how to play their instruments...of course there's backing tracks, though...no one sounds like Queen.
Freddie was friends with the members of Smile, for a long time. He stepped in when their lead singer left for another band. He and Mary, although engaged at one point, never married. But she remained the love of his life, until the end of Freddie’s. To this day, only she knows where his ashes are. Freddie didn’t find out he had HIV/AIDS until 1987, a few years after Live Aid. He told the band in 1989, and asked them not to say anything to anyone. Which they honored. Freddie told the public November 23, 1991 about his diagnosis, then died 24 hours later. The Live Aid sequence of the movie was the actual audio from the actual event. Most of the attendees at the concert in the film were CGI. Rami Malek practiced countless hours getting his moves the same as Freddie’s for the scene. Freddie’s vocals in the film were either recordings of Freddie, or the artist Marc Martel. I hope this answers some of your questions about the film. Queen is my favorite band of all time! I’d LOVE to see you react to the song Somebody To Love, live from Montreal in 1981. That’s the song they opened the movie with, you said you weren’t familiar with. It’s one of the best live performances (besides their Live Aid) of all time!
Thx so much Sarah, for your answers! Ok n, so timing wise it wasn't exactly the same as in his real life when it comes to his illness. And yes indeed I wasn't thx for the suggestion! I can definitely see why they were many peoples favorite band!
@@bethwolford3652 speaking of Roger Taylor…. Killer Queen/I’m In Love With My Car, Dragon Attack and Roger’s drum solo from the Montreal concert are also great!
Some of the songson the later albums reflect how Freddie was feeling and are very emotional. He sang for as long as he could. He also achieved an ambition of singing with opera start Monserrat Caballe. They made an album together.
I love this movie Rami really embodied Freddie. Saw a side by side of this vs the real concert. He got every movement down perfectly. He won a Golden Globe and a Oscar much deserved.
Tabloids at the time really did rip Freddy apart like that... During Live Aid the Media cried that Freddy kicked dirty rain water into the cameras in spite... Even if he did who could blame em
As Freddie himself said and as he told all of his other lovers - nobody could replace Mary. She was the emotional love of his life and he considered her his only friend - he just couldn´t give her the life he knew she deserved, but they were in each other´s lives until the last day and he considered her his common-law wife, leaving most of his money to her. The movie is historically wrong in many ways (and plays down Freddie´s excesses... check out "When Freddie met Kenny"), but it is fun. Freddie didn´t know about his AIDS at the time of Live Aid (he probably suspected, though) - and Queen never really broke up (All the others had done soloprojects BEFORE Freddie did, and Roger, I think, even contributed to Mr. Bad Guy), also, they had just finished a world-tour shortly before Live Aid. They had their last live concert in 1986, and did several more albums, getting better and better right up to the last one of Freddie´s life-time, which was done just a few months before he died (The show must go on is on this - imagine a man almost on the brink of death doing that!). Their very last proper Album was done a few years after Freddie´s death and is still very, very good- containiing stuff Freddie had been singing almost to the last days of his life and older material - Made in Heaven. Sublime.
Thanks for a great review. Hard to put 45 years of an incredible life into 2 hours. Not all time lines were right but the band approved and that makes it just fine with me.
This movie was not completely accurate. Freddie actually knew Brian May and Roger Taylor from school. They were all good friends. Brian and Roger shared an apartment and Freddie would crash on their couch and give them suggestions about their band, Smile. Freddie was actually the lead singer of another band at the time. He was with that other band when he had an issue with the mic stand at one of their shows and he decided to use the half mic from then on. He wanted it to be his “thing” and then he left that band and joined Brian and Roger when their lead singer left for another band called Humpy Bong. They eventually found John Deacon to play bass and the rest is history. They didn’t meet in the parking lot like in the movie. Roger has said that it took a while to find a bass player because when they were looking, the bass players either couldn’t play, but got along with the members or they could play, but didn’t get along with the members. The scenes when Freddie was in Munich were also inaccurate. Queen never stopped playing together before Live Aid the way the movie portrayed it. Roger did solo stuff without leaving the band. A lot of things were out of order in the movie regarding when certain songs were written and released etc. In the movie, We Will Rock You was created in the early 80’s when Freddie had the short hair and mustache, but it was actually released in 1977 when Freddie still had somewhat long hair and no mustache. Also, the way Freddie told the band about his AIDS was not accurate. He didn’t get diagnosed until 1987, I believe, which was 2 years after Live Aid. He told their manager, Jim “Miami Beach” first but initially kept it from the rest of the guys. Once they learned, they did everything they could to protect Freddie from all the tabloids as Freddie’s appearance began to change. After Freddie died, John “Deacy” Deacon the bass player retired from music, but Brian and Roger continued to work together over the years and have been touring with Adam Lambert singing lead since 2012. Brian and Roger decided to be involved in the movie, so they could control the narrative before someone else made a movie about Freddie that would be completely wrong, so they are still protecting him. Some fun facts about the movie: The actor who played Freddie and the actress who played Mary fell in love and became a real couple. It was sweet seeing them at the award shows together. The Truck Driver that catches Freddie’s eye while on a pay phone talking to Mary is Adam Lambert. He is the singer that Brian and Roger asked to collaborate with them and they have been touring together since 2012 playing all the classic Queen songs. They have been able to play the same stadiums that they played 40 years ago. Brian and Roger are still really enjoying it. Some fans will never see the band without Freddie, but there are plenty of fans who want to hear Queen music live and they are selling out stadiums 50 years after the band started, which is incredible. The first thing they filmed was the Live Aid concert sequence and the actors watched the real Live Aid video over and over again so they could get all the movements exact and they worked with a body movement specialist to get everything correct. The real Brian May and Roger Taylor were the executive music producers for the movie and were on set a lot. They have said that the Live Aid sequence was so surreal because they recreated it to look exactly the way it did in 1985. Brian had said that he was seeing video of himself playing the guitar and sometimes, he couldn’t tell if it was him or if it was video of the actor playing him. The actor looks a lot like Brian. Roger and Brian were very pleased with the actor who played Freddie. They’ve said that he really embodied who Freddie was. Raimi Malek is the actor playing Freddie and he won several awards for his portrayal including a Golden Globe and an Oscar. Raimi has been to several Queen concerts and has tried to bring a lot of people that he knows to their concerts In the sequence when they were filming the recording session of Bohemian Rhapsody, the real Brian May was there playing the guitar solo when Freddie was in the booth asking him to put more feeling into it and then he would hand the guitar to the actor to get those shots of him telling Freddie he’d play it again with more feeling. Both Brian and Roger were on set to help their counterparts with the guitar and drums. A lot of people don’t like the movie, but I love it. I have seen a lot of documentaries about Queen, so when I watched the movie, I knew what wasn’t accurate, so I didn’t mind and I enjoyed the movie. If you want to learn more about Queen, I would suggest checking out some documentaries. These are the days of our lives is a great one to start with. Also, there is a documentary of what happened with the band after Freddie passed called The Show Must Go On. I would also recommend watching Rami Malik winning the Oscar, his speech was really good. You might know him from the TV show Mr. Robot.
According to the Guinness World Records, Queen hit some seriously major milestones not just within their illustrious career but long after too. First single to reach number one on two separate occasions. First rock band in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. First music video banned by MTV. Aug., 9, 2023.
Lovely reaction! As others have mentioned, some of the movie story was true(ish), some invented in order to make a complex life fit a standard length Hollywood movie and its expected arcs of emotional highs and lows, with the essential triumphal ending... There are a number of resources online that go through it all point by point, for anyone who's interested enough to want to follow it up. A longer and more accurate biography is in the documentary 'Queen: Days of our Lives' (or something like that). Opinions vary as to how well Freddie's complex character and relationships were captured in Bohemian Rhapsody (the movie). In reality, I think he was more multi-layered than is portrayed here. And that includes with a big soft side that was barely seen here at all. He was usually reported to be kind, considerate and extremely generous to his close friends and employees. Another characteristic that doesn't emerge in the movie is a certain shyness that was in complete contrast to his stage persona/ public image. I used to see him around, though never got to speak to him, back in the late 60s and early 70s in London, and one impression that struck me on later reflection, was that on each of those occasions he was always surrounded by a group of friends - either band members or co-workers - amongst whom he was able to hide himself with the friends forming a kind of protective shield between him and the rest of the world... Even so, he seemed to shine with a special radiance that marked him out from his companions. The final time I saw him was in the summer of '73, two weeks and a day before the release of the band's first album, at the market where he was still running a stall with Roger, trying to earn some money selling a mixture of vintage clothing, his drawings and even the typed manuscript of his old art school thesis. When I wandered in, he was sitting there with Roger and Mary - clearly a cool Biba girl from the way she was dressed but otherwise quite strikingly ordinary - whereas Freddie and Roger simply oozed charisma. The three of them were celebrating the news that the album was finally packed up and ready to go out to the shops, after many setbacks. They were all buoyant, displaying exactly that unusual, borderline arrogant, though always charming confidence in the band and its future that the movie shows (but mainly attributes to Freddie). Roger did most of the talking. Freddie was sitting on the floor with his back to me the whole time, and as on each previous occasion I'd seen him, I felt strongly drawn to him. Later, as I was leaving the market I bumped into him again - the (indoor) market's lights were off and everyone else had closed up and gone home - and this time we chatted, alone in just the pool of light from the stall he was locking up, for a few minutes. You could tell he was shy at first and had to make a conscious decision to open up and talk to a virtual stranger. I was equally shy, and bowled over by all the layers of his personality I was finally seeing and feeling, unfolding before me. On top of that, I had a massive premonition about him (that turned out to be 100% accurate) that completely floored me, and frightened me. To be honest, I couldn't really process it all. So there he was, being super friendly and finally chatty and open to a conversation, having overcome his nerves - and what did I do? I fled! 😀 I always meant to go back and renew this embryonic/ potential friendship with this man I felt so drawn to, once I'd collected myself and got up my courage again. But life stepped in and took me in another direction, away from London and away from Freddie. I forgot all about him until a few years ago, when a series of events brought him back to mind - including the release of this movie and all the accompanying publicity - and I worked out who he was. I'd never followed Queen as a band and when I'd occasionally seen Freddie's moustached, cavorting image in photographs I simply couldn't connect that confident show-off to the shy, radiant, beautiful/ ugly, mysterious, fascinating, warm and friendly, long-haired guy with the black nails and eye make-up I used to see around and finally got to meet that magical day, so many years ago... Sorry about the long drawn out story! I just wanted people to know there really was more to him than the character the movie shows... So much more, that here I am, an old lady in my 70s, babbling on about the famous Mr Mercury to some random stranger, still trying to process it...! 🙂
Actually Freddie was not the first one to do solo albums. Back in 1977 Roger realesed a single and in 1981 Roger released a solo album. In 1983 Brian released a mini album. Then Roger released his second album. And then Freddie released his first album. In short Freddie did two albums. Brian has done 3 albums so far. Roger has done 6 solo albums and another 3 albums with his side band. And John did some solo works but he couldn't do albums and etc, because he couldn't sing.
The part that always makes me smile is that the record exec is played by Mike Meyers. His film “Wayne’s World” introduced a new generation to Queen. With the classic scene of literal head banging in the car to BoRap. In the late 70’s, they were hugely popular at my high school. But the biggest fans were some of the misfits. Not as fringe as the RUSH fans, but not quite as mainstream as other rock bands.
Adam Lambert who later perform as Queen's leadsinger is also in this movie hardly anyone spot him. He is the truckdriver (20.49) giving looks on Freddie at gas station while Freddie calls Mary. Also large number of those who bought ticker for Live Aid 1985 attend in this movie in as part of the audience.
I called my cats Freddie Mercury and Deaky Deacon after watching the movie, so I can only agree with you, lol. Wish the movie had included "Delilah" or "All dead, all dead", lol.
Loved this reaction, thank you!The movie was fabulous but purists bagged it because it wasn’t strictly accurate! All the actors were fantastic in looking like their Queen band members & their talent! Rami Malek who played Freddie won the Oscar for best actor which was richly deserved. He studied clips of Freddie for many hours in order to get it right, he also had to sing during the Freddie voice overs so he would appear to be singing! Gwilym Lee( Brian) played the guitar already but Brian May tutored him helped him with all the the little details that made him act more like Brian. I believe Ben Lee( Roger) had tutoring in playing the drums! Freddie & Mary were lifelong friends & Freddie left her most of his estate including his London house in which she still lives! Thank you again, love from Australia 🇦🇺
there are a lot of things off about this movie, Freddie never broke up the band Roger Taylor had a solo album before Freddie so it didnt matter to the members but maybe they did fight because Roger did talk about before didnt it and freddie didnt .How they met was false Freddie known Brian May and Roger Taylor when brian and roger were part of smile, freddie worked w roger. John Deacon wasnt Queen first bassist in Queen earylist years Mike Groose was Queen first bassist but left shortly after because he lost hope. The EMI guy wasnt a real life person they used him because of time wize, but when queen got done recording bohemian rhapsody the song got refused by so many radio stations so Freddie deciced to make a deal with someone (forgot the show name and person) but freddie made a deal w this person who had a show to play it as many times 4 it to blow up so the person playd it 16 times in 2 days. Also they did not sell the van they qaxtually got in to a free studio somehow. Brian May wrote we will rock you in the 70s not in the 80s. hope this help everyone in the commments told you the rest
"This actor" got an Oscar! but a lot of people will not see it because he is not Freddie - Queen died when Freddie died so they dont't approve of anything without Freddie - not even things that make us stay interested. . You should dive more into Queen - There is a lot of material - and of cause the film had to be fitted in to make it possible to tell the story - but only for dramatical reasons - not to lie about the truth. You can find a lot about it on you tube or elsewhere .Queen have a mega following - so you can enhance you r subscribers if you go on reacting - and I hope you will - you catch a lot of the story without judging - You got it about the interpretations - Freddie wanted it to be open to the listeners fantasy - and not restrain it. We don't always know who wrote the songs because Freddies interpretation was spot on - but they all wrote #1 hits and are all included in the rock and roll songwriters hall of fame.
He did love Mary, but for all intents and purposes of that era he was considered gay. He had a much stronger sexual attraction to men over women, which is why he only ever was with men when they separated. His love for Mary though was more than a friend and probably as close as a lover, but in a way that they couldn't just be described by putting a ring on it.
Glad that I have seen the movie several times - there was nothing to see - it was reversed - and you cut into bits and pieces - - but you cut the essens - and when you couldn't help it and sang along - you COULD sing - most reactors can not: I will definitely subscribe and see what else you react to - but please - more Queen - you have a knack for it. I guess that I erased my first comment - that the trucker was played by Adam Lambert - who now is frontman with Brian May and Roger Taylor and backing musicians as Queen + Adam Lambert - and doing very well - with his own interpretation of the songs - - nobody can replace Freddie - but Adam is a performer - theatrical and a powerhouse of a singer. Listen to "Who wants to live forever" at the Isle of Wight Festival 2016 - The day after the mass shooting in a bar in ??.Orlando, Florida?? It will blow your mind. You got the film right - a lot of hard core fans is picky about it - It is not fair to portray Freddie like that - Rami is a monster - the storyline is not correct - . But it is not a documentary - - !!❤
You know I absolutely love the band Queen but they got ALOT of things wrong, and you know I understand it's a biopic, but they made out like Freddie was this arrogant person, didn't like that in the slightest, Freddie was a beautiful kind person.
There were and are the greatest band to live I just found this vid I remember seeing it in the cinema and it was amazing and I have been a fan since the day I was born
Brian & Roger are not perfect on all Queen knowledge. How would you explain Brian telling Freddie about We will rock you which is a 70’s song. & yet in the film Freddie has a moustache which he didn’t have until the 80’s. John Reid was never sacked by Freddie he left amicably after Queen decided to manage themselves. Freddie is showing Mary a song on TV from the rock in Rio concert in the 80’s when the song (Love of my life) was clearly recorded in the mid 70’s & Freddie would have told Mary then not in the 80’s. Freddie never left Queen as portrayed in the film & he definitely didn’t contract aids until after Live Aid so to say to someone that Brian & Roger know more than them is not true. I enjoyed the film but it is definitely not factually accurate as most films tend to be to make it more interesting & dramatic.

I fled! 😀
I always meant to go back and renew this embryonic/ potential friendship with this man I felt so drawn to, once I'd collected myself and got up my courage again.
Thank you so much for sharing your story! Every single one of us fans would love to have been in your shoes then!
Not as fringe as the RUSH fans, but not quite as mainstream as other rock bands.
and freddie got to see that scene and loved it
Adam Lambert who later perform as Queen's leadsinger is also in this movie hardly anyone spot him. He is the truckdriver (20.49) giving looks on Freddie at gas station while Freddie calls Mary. Also large number of those who bought ticker for Live Aid 1985 attend in this movie in as part of the audience.
Rami won the Oscar for playing Freddie, btw.
He completely diserved it ❤
I like this movie. I'm glad kitties, which he loved and had, were in the movie. Sorry if I sound stupid for saying that.
Nice enough film about a rock band, but in terms of Queen's history, woefully inadequate.
Paul Printer died 3 months before Freddie passed in 1991
You probably don't know this, but that trucker was played by Adam Lambert.
Queen forever ❤❤
"This actor" got an Oscar! but a lot of people will not see it because he is not Freddie - Queen died when Freddie died so they dont't approve of anything without Freddie - not even things that make us stay interested. . You should dive more into Queen - There is a lot of material - and of cause the film had to be fitted in to make it possible to tell the story - but only for dramatical reasons - not to lie about the truth. You can find a lot about it on you tube or elsewhere .Queen have a mega following - so you can enhance you
r subscribers if you go on reacting - and I hope you will - you catch a lot of the story without judging - You got it about the interpretations - Freddie wanted it to be open to the listeners fantasy - and not restrain it.
That's true Freddie is engaged with Mary..They live together for 6 yrs until the time Freddie is more attractive to men
Pretty sure there were 500 people who was duplicated thru CGI
So the trucker Freddie looked at is played by the current lead singer of Queen
This wannabe who shall not be named is not and will never be "leadsinger of Queen". It's ALWAYS "Queen and...". HE's a stand-in.
@@juttapopp1869 Adam Lambert.
You know I absolutely love the band Queen but they got ALOT of things wrong, and you know I understand it's a biopic, but they made out like Freddie was this arrogant person, didn't like that in the slightest, Freddie was a beautiful kind person.
I want you to do reaction live Aid
Really😂
Video being block is not the most awesome 😢
There were and are the greatest band to live I just found this vid I remember seeing it in the cinema and it was amazing and I have been a fan since the day I was born
This Movie is very inaccurate. The facts are in fact are very different, more sentimental for lack of a better word.
I believe Roger and Brian know better what happen there than you do.
Did u know ray foster is played by Mike myers? Wayne's world!!!
He Also The Voice Of Shrek
And the truckdriver is Adam Lambert who later perform with Queen as their leadsinger.
@chiasanzes9770 Yes Because Freddie Sadly Passed Away
