      @uzlonewolf 2 месяца назад +4

      Most warranties are. "Oh, your device failed? Simply spend 14 hours on the phone with us, personally hand deliver it yourself (no one else is allowed) to our office 3 states away between 1pm and 1:01pm, pay 10x what the device is worth as a deposit in case we deny the claim, and we'll get to it sometime in the next 18 months." 18 months later: "Sorry, your claim was denied because it failed on a day of the week ending in 'y'. As a courtesy, here's a coupon for $0.10 off your next purchase [only valid on full MSRP price directly through us]."

    I'm a facility manager for a property rental firm and we have a great pool tech who gets called out for a lot of random problems. He painstakingly finds it and gives an estimate to fix. Many of the homeowners then take his information and find another cheaper tech to do the work. It pisses him off to no end. I found out about it and urged him to charge double(more) for the diagnoses and if they use him, he'll reduce the service fee. Problem solved. In essence, I hope you didn't lose any money by doing all the footwork. 🙏

    • @Garth2011
      @Garth2011 Месяц назад +2

      these days diagnosis can't be a free service anymore. Folks are not loyal so you have to get something for your time knowing they will likely choose a cheaper route or DIY. In the long run, its better too do business with the same tech since you build a relationship...those are hard to find and worth every penny because that is what gives good service rain or shine.

    • @harryschrysan3183
      @harryschrysan3183 Месяц назад +1

      Why a diagnosis would be free in any case man? You show up and spend time to find their problem. I don't think it should ever be free, unless you are the one who did some fuck up on their unit.

  • @s.j.5850
    @s.j.5850 Месяц назад

    You are 100% correct on the home warranty techs (unless they get lucky) screwing up the compressor change-out. They probably won't add the correct amount of refrigerant to the system like they did with one of my units. Unfortunately I was in another state when they replaced the compressor, but after that experience I took an HVAC class & got the EPA 608 Universal certification to work on my own system. The class was cheap compared to all the equipment I had to buy (recovery machine, vacuum pump, gages, tanks, micron gage, etc.)! I watch your channel to pick up tips & tricks of the trade.

    We stopped correcting/arguing with customers when they tell us stupid things they are going to do to resolve a situation that would involve a higher priced repair. I just say OK. Some ask why we don't counter and I just tell them I know how this is going to go if they ask. Many actually agree at that point. Some call back in a few days and I tell them I knew you would be calling back. lol Some need to find out on their own. It's a good lesson for them. We are busy enough if they never call back that works also.

The guy she called actually called us for advice I kid you not. We didn't tell him what to do exactly so he would fail TBH. He couldn't have done it anyway. We are the goto's for this. Next she called me back kissing my ass apologized and begged for us to come back out. I made this bitch call my tech and apologize to him because she was rude to him. I said if he agreed to come out it was OK but I wasn't going to make him service her. He goes out there she made him coffee and the other guy she called who failed actually damaged something.
