The big one for me is Peste Noire, which breaks my heart because for a solid two year stretch they were pretty much my favorite band, but they make it such a PAIN to get their albums and there's always some nonsense where the only way to get the CD is in like a wooden cheese box or something. As far as bands where I like a whole lot of their albums but they've got a couple chunks where I don't like their stuff goes, Sigh's kinda the big one. I just really can't stand the 2007 through 2012 albums, something about the vocals.
Wish i did that with video games. But thankfully when it comes to my recent vinyl collection, i've stayed true to my rule of only allowing myself to get records i enjoy.

Theres really only a few great ones like the first 3 and Cast in Stone is my favorite plus Resurrection is good. Everything else after is a bit too much in length. Sepultura i own everything and i'm glad i do because they're the band that got me in to extreme metal. I also own everything from Max's other bands like Nailbomb, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, Killer Be Killed, and Go Ahead and Die. Celtic Frost i have everything but Monotheist. I dont know why i dont have that yet and i've been collecting cds since the 90's. Early Celtic Frost eps and first full length are all you really need. There is some good songs on later albums but alot of filler in my opinion. Oh and i actually dont mind Cold Lake lol. Behemoth i own most albums but don't really care for stuff after Demigod. I like their early black metal demos probably most along with Satanica. They're just kinda mediocre to me. I liked them like Nile, Hate Eternal, Broken Hope, Suffocation when i was younger but kinda moved on to other things. Blut Aus Nord i'm not really interested in. I have first 2 albums and thats it. I'm a completionist so at some point i might catch up on certain bands i'm into for the week and if its not that great then i never listen to the cds again. They just sit with my collection. So i probably got 2500 cds i only listened to once lol.
Monotheist is a great album, and different from all the Celtic Frost albums before it. As Questy said, they do slow doomy evil stuff which Tom G Warrior had not really done since Hellhammer. You’re either into that or you are not and ok its not the early speed metal gnarly Frost but its far better material than Pandemonium, Cold Lake and Vanity/Nemesis as far as I’m concerned.

Sabbath, Voivod, Exodus, Overkill, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Enslaved, King Diamond, Slayer and Dio. A few others are almost complete, but I have no interest in certain albums or just haven't found them yet.
Converge - debut is really rare cannibal corpse - dont like barnes stuff very much Iron maiden - i have all but X factor, dont care to get it Judas priest - some real mid in there Pink floyd - not metal but ummagumma is a travesty, wont catch me owning that Sodom - they dont seem to be that easy to find for a good portion of their albums

The couple from the first half of the 90s is mandatory - then you can choose your poison. 02-10 are somewhat consistent but other than The Cult is alive not worth owning for me. Underground resistance is the weaker version of It beckons it all, that really was an album I enjoyed. Yet: Astral Fortress is okay, I like it more as a doom enthusiast, Eternal hails was a huge letdown. Probably together with Ravishing grimness and Plague Bearer my least favourite Darkthrone album. Arctic Thunder and Oldstar are rated as high as the 92-95 stuff though. They really made me dive deep into the underground metal scene past and present and Oldstar after being kind of lukewarm was a well of inspiration for my own riff writing and so on. The last three albums are questionable, the four before these as well but I'll always defend them.
Yo questy, If you haven't already check out albums Infest the Rats Nest and PetroDragonic Apocalypse by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They are a non-metal band that did those two thrash metal albums and they're genuinely much better than most of thrash that comes out today
Unless you just narrow it down to the five full length albums. The only one out of those I don't own is Hex. Some of the songs are good but the recording is kind of dull. I think Don said something like that in an interview recently. Glad you mentioned them though, great band.
Kings X (only early stuff is essential IMO) Cradle Of Filth (too many studio albums, eps, live albums just cant be bothered) Pantera (if theyd put the hair metal albums out officially id buy them but is that ever going to happen?) I could go on but most bands even my favorites reach a point where their output becomes lesser and you have to pick and choose.
I almost have Behemoth and Blut Aus Nord complete, well for fell lengths that is. Missing Behemoth first album, and still want to get it, just have not got it. Blut Aus Nord latest two, Disharmonium stuff, just have not got a hold of them yet.

The big 4 Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax are the first to come to my mind. They each got some of the greatest albums of all time but also some of the most mediocre albums of all times. Dream Theater is another, pretty much loved every single album, but then they fell off with the self-titled onwards imo. and Cradle of Filth because Manticore exists. I really enjoy the rest of their discog.
I only own one album on cd(Its Till et annet by Trelldom and the lnly reason I have it is because its not on spotify). So yeah... I have alot of discographys I won't complete

1. Darkthrone - I like everything from the demo era to Total Death. After that, I can’t be bothered with Darkthrone. 2. Behemoth - Love the demos, And the Forests Dream Eternally, Sventevith, and Grom. Some of the albums they released after Grom are alright, but again, can’t be bothered to continue collecting. 3. Deathspell Omega - I’m in that camp where I really enjoy Deathspell’s earlier, more simplistic material. The stuff after their second album isn’t terrible by any means, but it’s not my cup of tea. 4. Ancient - I freaking love this band’s first three albums. But they became kinda boring after that. 5. Cradle of Filth - As someone else said in the comments, too many releases so I don’t care to own them all. I’m only collecting my favorite CoF material and that’s it.

I love Virgin Steele and Dokken. My 2 favorite bands. But both bands have plenty of albums I don't care for.
