It's worth mentioning that the movement attacks attached to your "Y" or "Triangle" button count as a dodge. The timing is difficult to do consistently but it's so rewarding.
The spring also allows you to do basic attacks while charging. You can spring launch yourself with an attack and you do 2 overhead attacks followed by 1 basic attack and it counts as a fully charged heavy hit. And it charges faster than if you sat still to charge. Also weaves in dps in between charges
The half charge slash is incredibly useful especially because you dash to close the distance. I find that it outputs more dps than full charge if the monster isn't stunned, kod or trapped.
I was a bit worried about this game having a bias towards more light and fast striking weapons. I'm glad to be proven wrong. I'll be a Nodachi main from day 1 🔥🔥🔥
The torch is actually amazing for doing quick charges if you iai charge while going through it its fantastic for being super aggressive if you play right
Connect with the torch swing then one regular attack typically completely fills the bar for me. I also use the glider for bigger damage while charging vs taller more upright kemono.
One thing I really like is how you can still use your Square and Triangle attacks while charging, and that landing hits while charging *boosts the charge gauge.* You're ready to launch straight into a fully charged slash after like one Square combo, it's glorious and I'm honestly surprised it wasn't mentioned, I'm convinced it's the fastest way to max your charge gauge and i distinctly recall it being in the Training Bear tutorial. I'm not usually a big fan of the big bunga blades in hunting RPGs, but my god, I think I actually really like this.

The whole point of this weapon is holding R2, do smaller hit combos to boost the charge and then combo into the big move. Its a shame that content creators put out false info like this.
@@ricklubbers7761 Why do you think I said this in the first place. Holding R2 stationary is approx 5 seconds charge. Holding R2 and moving causes the bar to charge much slower. Holding R2 while attacking makes the bar jump in faster chunks, but the difference between dps charge and stationary charge is extremely marginal and still hovers around 5 seconds. It just feels faster as you're actively moving. There's another video out there demonstrating this with parallel bars. Go test it honestly and come back when you know what you're talking about.
I didn't like this game much until I tried this weapon. Its weird because I've never much cared for the greatsword in MH. I don't rely too much on the charged hit until the monster is vulnerable. I use the spring pad a lot though. Also, you can start charging then throw out normal attacks as well.
I’m not tryna compare to MonHun cuz Wild Hearts is its own thing and I’ll go in with that impression, but this feels like GS and Hammer had a baby and GS CLEARLY has very dominant genes lmao
honestly i find this weapon really fast to use. using the charge mechanics you can build up for a BIG hitter as a reward for knowing when and how to dodge and time to attack between them. i find myself verry rarely now waiting to charge. i set the charge off and get some hits in and no matter what you can let go of the charge for an earlyer swing that will happen no matter what animation you are in of your attacks, doing so gets you out of the way with a high dammage slash and moves you more. now thread this in with the karakuri and brother, this weapon was made to be used with them. from the springs tripple hit attack (4 if you time your charge release just after the second swing. for example, use spring, do light attack, you do two spin attacks and right as you do the first or very quickly after the second slash, you release your charge to do the dubble spin, this is not only great for mobility and dps but can get you often at times out of its next attack so you can get in another tripple hit then big boom attack, the box lunge works great for dodging a hit and nailing high up enemys or high up brakable parts, and the multi slash you can do from the glider too) all of this flows together that i find it hard to stand around and only do the charge mechanics when in reality im Zipping allover this monster like its dule blades from MH rise and been rewarded with high dammage and super dammage for knowing how to manuver round the monster. thank you for reading something that most will find dumb or ass buggertry (also yes spellings not the best, cry about it)
For a big sword it doesn’t really seem to do very much damage like the hammer does more damage and you don’t have to charge so like is that a placeholder is it supposed to do more damage because it doesn’t really make sense
All the fights look good so far but something about that monkey is off putting, something maybe to do with its proportions or just being weirdly bendy. edit- nvm it looks like part of his identity is being able to elongate his arms so the bendiness makes sense

I was initially super salty I couldn't claw blade out the gate. Then you lads showed me that the whole gimmick of this boy is punishing draw greatsword and my peepee got hard. This weapon is nutty and I love it
Springs+air attacks+triangle to dodge out= hit and run big damage nodachi where I don't get hit and keep steady damage instead of just standing around... this guide I think is a product of them not knowing the weapon well enough because the game wasn't out long enough

100% agree. i also think nodachi needs an overall damage buff. its way too slow for the mediocre damage output, not to mention it uses stamina. staff does what nodachi does but better
Just don't see where this slow charge playstyle is better than the staffs charge style that also involves doing damage and doesn't get reset when you're hit... also pretty sure the staff finisher does more damage
I mean this game gives a very generous amount of s compared to souls or monster hunter. I'm loving it. Just like everyone else tho the frame rate is killer but game play is SUPER fun
The nodachi (at least in the video) looks more like a kanabo than a nodachi. An iron club rather than what would historically be (if i recall) a horsekiller sword.
To be fair, josh dose that with every weapon. At least he did mention you can be charging while attacking so it is not as spam the one hit as he makes it.
Only using charge attacks will be a hefty dps loss, you want to attack while charging to build the meter faster than you can while standing still(and at less stamina cost) You can get like 60-70% of your meter by using a spring board while charging and doing a two hit aerial combo
man.. sadly the game has so many freaking technical problems it was so fun and i liked the umbrella WAY more than i expected i had reasonably high expectations like a 7/10 game and it blew my expectations rating is pending but it might be a 8.5 or even 8.75 game but the technical issues are making it actually unplayable like i boot the game it works with poor but playable performance (30 to 60fps) with minor stutters and had fun but then i closed it to study wanted to open it again and nope game wont open restarted PC and now.. i lost all my save data... bruh ☠i wouldnt say buying it day 1 is a good idea unless they fix it but it will be a VERY good game when it gets fixed and probably it wont take more than a month to fix these bugs
I've always hated the MH great sword. But Wild Hearts great sword is awesome. I'm still mobile even while charging and I can use the springboard to get around even faster plus get some stamina back. I no longer feel like a sloth with a big ass sword and I still hit hard it's great.
You know what, imma just say it. I like this weapons combat concept better the monster hunters great sword.(at least better then the newer generation, haven't played mutch of the old gen games due to availability of said old games...)
Greatsword looks a lot more satisfying and powerful though, also moveset is kinda small imo, but that's a game thing i'd say, all the weapons looks simpler.

But I personally like a little more depth on weapons, katakuri staff seems to be the "complicated" weapon here. If it's too easy people won't play as much though, we'll have to see, but if weapons and kemono are to easy the content may not be as satisfying.
@@MrOrzeker I agree but the issue isn't complexity, it's that in sunbreak why would I use the full moveset in conjunction when I can just use wirebug attacks, I just fucking hate them. Takes the fun out of the game for me.

I do like that you don't have to only play with big honkin hits. I refuse MH greatsword playstyle, not fun. Wild Hearts is fun and I'm enjoying the trial, I'll be waiting because fuck $70. Also regular X and Y attacks charge the bar.
For me this weapon doesnt work. I can never reach the second charge lvl even with full stamina its bot enough. Do you need some special skills or food buffs?

As a GS main in MH, this is nice to have. Moving while charging, it’s like they mixed Hammer and Greatsword, an absolute win.
Nodachi is hammer, maul is greatsword. Play maul. Bigger damage number. Gs style impact on the big hit

Can never go wrong with a heap of raw iron. I get the same dopamine rush with Nodachi, that I get with Greatsword in MH. KoeiTecmo did good.

It charges at the same speed as charging sitting still. Difference is that you can do dps while charging as opposed to being stationary.

Between this and the umbrella, I’m having a really tough time deciding what I want to main.
For me, It's nodachi or Maul. I actually can't choose and will prolly spend time with both of them for a while until I decide a main.

Don’t forget level one charge attack cancels out all of the others moves.

Nodachi light attacks need a buff. For the smaller faster kemono you barely have a chance to charge before stamina drain.

Most Nodachis are big swords, though some are kanabos. Basically the same way things are over in Monster Hunter.
