The lack of forced enthusiasm is refreshing. They don’t holler and yell for the sake of drumming up the illusion of dramatics that aren’t really there. It’s racing. It’s inherently exciting, let the racing make me excited, and you fill in the details.
Oh yeah it’s absolutely no contest. Back in these days they actually focused on informing the viewers like they’re supposed to instead of entertaining us like they try to do now
3:37:48: "HEY! KASEY KAHNE LOST IT!" "Oh there's oil. Oil on the Race Track!" I feel so much pain for Kasey Kahne when he so close to his first career win in that year.
Probably because he was a California kid in a Carolina sport. He also came from open wheel short track racing, while most of the fans' heroes came to Winston Cup the traditional way through late models, All Pro, ASA, etc. And he was kicking everyone's butts as the youngest driver in the field for all but 3 of his first 189 races; by then he was a 3 time champion.
I was about 8 years old at this race and a HUGE JG fan, we were sitting between 3-4 and when he came around after hitting the wall in 2, everybody around us was cheering and booing like shown in that clip and I was so upset I started crying hahahahah
This one was the SLOWEST race ever at Dover on record, this one was a wreckfest and probably one of the stinging defeats I had to watch in 2004, Kahne being so good only to fall out at the end, NASCAR's errors in cleaning up the track among other things made this one a freak show from start to finish, many drivers had good runs and soldiered on despite problems early, this was just an old-fashioned war of attrition. I think it's fitting an older driver won this one.
I think the slowest Dover race was the fall Dover Cup race in 1993 when Rusty Wallace won. That race lasted nearly five hours long, this race ranks up to one of the slowest
This was my first NASCAR Race in the stands. I was extremely young, 12 years old to be exact. Was a Jimmie Johnson fan ever since watching him out in Baja racing on SPEED, etc before 2000. My mom still recalls me watching that wreck about 3 hrs in, and saying "Thank God Jimmie Is okay" and then he got out of the car, and screaming "Jimmie is looking at me!! WOW!" It was my first live sporting event. Still a NASCAR fan now. Miss the 2000's in NASCAR.
This race takes me back to when i was a kid, when i learned life isnt fair. If only i knew what was to come for the rest of the year for kahne. I would of never watched nascar growing up. Thanks nascar for harvesting my childhood soul😂
valuable lesson though and Kahne had bad luck and this time it worked out for the king of bad luck Mark Martin. if it could of gone wrong it did for mark usually
I felt the same thing I was an 8 year old at this race and a huge Gordon fan, with everybody around us cheering as he came around after hitting the wall I started crying a little bit hahahaha
Not gonna lie looking back on this race - Its a underrated Dover Race cause so many big names got taken out except for Junior, Tony and Mark too name a few
2004 Kahne was the most unlucky driver that year, screwed out of at least two wins that year, this and Chicagoland being the two that come to mind, never mind the fact I believe he had a engine failure at Texas or Atlanta while in the top 5 and those 2 photo finishes he had with Kenseth at Vegas and Rockingham very easily could of broke Johnson's and Stewarts rookie win record

NASCAR 06 Total Team Control Challenge Mark Martin 6 Viagra Ford Taurus The Drought Is Over 4:07:19 For Martin he was in the 6 Viagara White Ford Taurus as he led about 20 laps as he held off Tony Stewart, and Dale Earnhardt JR along with the pack of cars behind him with 9 laps left to snap a losing streak of 73 races since he won his latest race in cup series as in the challenge he was in the 2005 version of the Viagara car as the same objective for the player to jump inside his car and hold off Stewart and the pack of cars for the last nine laps to win the race like he did.
So glad NASCAR got rid of the way they used to do restarts, with the lapped cars starting beside and sometimes in front of the leaders, best thing NASCAR has ever done. Who knows what could have been of this race if the lapped cars didn't kill the field on that restart. smh
Would have knocked it flat outta the water if he had luck, he would had about 5-6 wins. The Dodge Intrepid was the best car Dodge ever had and Bill Elliott's notes and input really helped Kahne in those early years.
Chris Kreager If I could remember Kasey could've won Rockingham, Texas, Dover, Michigan(june), California(labor day) and Charlotte in the fall (led 207 Laps before a right front went down) he didn't break through till Richmond in May 2005. It's kind of foreshadowed his career there are several races he's left on the table either finishing second or having issues (wrecks, mechanical) even with Hendrick he seems to be the Harry Gant of his era.
This event had to be one of the advancements towards abolishing restarts where the leader was mid pack and buried in lap traffic. NASCAR failed everyone this race, and if you’re Casey Mears there, what are you doing? When you’re trailing oil you’ve got to get on the apron ASAP.
For all you guys that say NASCAR throws bogus cautions at the ends of races and they should let them race back should look at the Khane incident he had it won but nascar let them race
Jack Johnson There is a big difference between bogus cautions and that. There was oil all over the track. That should have been a legit caution. The phantom debris cautions and cautions for cars doing 360's are BS and bogus. If you dont know the difference then i feel sorry for you.
These Era of Gen cars had between 750-950 horsepower depending on what level team you were on , we're completely hand fabricated besides the nose panels and were the fastest , best handling stock cars ever , now we have Plastic cookie cutter junk , with sports car suspension.
The early 2000s NASCAR broadcasts are infinitely better than the current broadcasts; change my mind
the whole organization seems better than it is now

No need to change your mind you're correct.

"I fail to understand why so many people cheer Jeff Gordon's misfortune" -- Mike Joy
That line's going to be on many's "NASCAR commentators say the weirdest things."
I remember being at this race and... uh... hehe little 8 year old me was one of those cheers on turn 2

the slowest race was the 2011 fedex 400, which was 5 years ago to this sunday
Oh right, that as well.
I think the slowest Dover race was the fall Dover Cup race in 1993 when Rusty Wallace won. That race lasted nearly five hours long, this race ranks up to one of the slowest
RevolutionFilms2007 I believe that was also when they ran 500 mile races at Dover.
Rather fitting for the race on the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Mark Martin fan here. nascar taught me alot of life lessons growing up.
What a hell (literally for so many drivers) of a race you got to see.
2:56:30 The sound effect that shows up in every NASCAR video or documentary whenever a wreck happens
I remember this race. This was when President Ronald Reagan passes away from Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 93.
As a Kahne fan, this one still hurts...
Should’ve won so many more races

This was the race where Mark Martin passed off his “bad luck” torch to Kasey Kahne. Lol.
1:29:20 pretty cool view of the suspension moving up and down
Can't believe they didn't say it but that finish was a "have you ever? No I've never" type of moment
Thank you for these uploads; I'm very grateful for all the work you put into finding and putting these up.

Awesome finish there at the end
I'm sure for everyone who went to this race, they would say that it was an absolute disaster.

But he didn’t.
Kahne had more top 5s in his rookie season than both Stewart and Johnson in theirs, so Kahne was definitely fighting for wins more often for sure.
@@kevinsanders3630 did I ever claim he did? What A dumb comment
Kasey's 2004 is an insane statistical anomaly. 14 top 10s, 13 top 5s. You can't say he didn't earn that first W the next year at Richmond.

Ironically, Mark Martin won a day race in a paint scheme he predominantly ran in night races.Go figure- White Lightning, a night car, wins in the day
I always like the white lighting viagra scheme especially compared to the silver one he had first it just didnt look good imo
also ironically mark had good luck in this race

This race is a prime example of why you don’t have tail end of the lead lap cars upfront of the leaders speed difference
Most of those were top 10 cars. The problem was that Blaney got a little too aggresive
