    YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I spent all day Sunday and most of Saturday googling and chatting with generative AI, trying to quiet my r730xd, which was pegged at 100% since doing some firmware updates. I had previously found the ipmitool command to reduce the fan speed manually down to 33%, which worked for my situation, but I got a wild hair to go and update my BIOS and IDRAC firmware, and after reboot, the fans went back to 100%, but this time it ignored my command to reduce back to 33%. The key that I got from your list of commands was the one to ENABLE MANUAL FAN CONTROL!!!!!! I used this one, and now, after a day and a half of listening to that jet engine running and not being able to use my office because of the noise, I have it back under control. Thank you so much!!!!!

      Awesome! And you're very welcome! Situations like that is exactly why I made the video. I might be preaching to the choir, but depending on how stressed your RAID card is be careful not to go too low on the RPMs. CPU temps can display as fine, but without RAID card temp reporting, too low of flow can cause seemingly random drive related issues. Just an fyi I wished i'd added to the video.

    Dude you are a lifesaver. Ive been sitting here listening to 8 16000 RPM server fans going at 100% nonstop because Truenas has absolutely 0 support for fan control in any way, shape, or form. Setting manual fan curves through bios was being ignored. I was on the verge of having to scrap literally everything I have and restarting on a new OS. I cannot thank you enough.

I was able to lower it all the way to 20% and the max CPU temps are hitting 45C under heavy load testing and the GPU's are hitting tops 75C, which is totally acceptable in most situations and my home lab setup. R730xd - IDRAC 2.86.86.86, working great!!! as others have said.... you saved the ears!!! I'm not even sure what I installed to lose control on mine, one if the 2.5 SAS drives died, but no data loss or anything, other than that I'm not really sure how I lost control, but either way, this is a great solution and if I ramp up the usage I will add some fan speed. Thanks!

    hi i not understand,you need all this install to server or just on you pc and conrol everything from pc

    • @Warning56kb
      @Warning56kb  Год назад +2

      It can be run from the server its self or from any computer on the same network. You use the command line to point to the IP address that the servers iDRAC is set to.

    • @kwb1714
      @kwb1714 Год назад +1

      @@Warning56kb So if run from a PC on the network one could literally control ALL the fans. Awesome.
      You mentioned that on boot up they will ramp up (auto mode I'm assuming)
      Should the load on the server increase will the fan speed increase to keep up with the load

    • @Warning56kb
      @Warning56kb  Год назад +1

      @@kwb1714 that's the one and only caveat with this method of full control... the fan speeds always stay at what you set them, regardless of CPU temp or load. The fans will go through their cycle at reboot, but lower back to the percentage you previously set.
      There are ways to set your own custom fan speed ranges based on temp/load, but it's pretty lengthy to explain. Was wanting to make another video some day covering that.

  • @MrStormCrow
    @MrStormCrow 6 месяцев назад

    quick question. Will the fans adjust, if for some reason the temps are up? I got a Poweredge T440 and I'm just worried maybe somehow this will kill the server lmfao
    I was able to install IPM

    • @Warning56kb
      @Warning56kb  6 месяцев назад

      The fans do not adjust with usage when manually set. When you set the desired RPM you'll need to account for CPU heat generated with your anticipated CPU workloads. I'd recommend loading the CPUs to the maximum anticipated workload while manually varying the fan speeds with IPMI tool to see what the minimum required RPM would be. If you have a very low ambient temp, that goes a long way with being able to keep the fan speeds low.

    • @MrStormCrow
