I literally grew up watching this whole story from the late 90s then through the whole series then concluding in the mid 2000’s with reflection I was way too young for the emotional impact of this story
Does it not build character, though? I, too, was exposed to things that, these days, kids are protected from. I wonder if it's left them better off. I think it's quite important kids get exposed to mature themes. Depends on the kid, though. When you say you were too young, was it that you didn't understand it, or that it was too much? I might be wrong here, but I think "drop your sword" is a literal translation and the true meaning would be something along the lines of "give up and die"
This is crappy translation, Kenshin originally just says "give up". Also he doesn't just call the poor dude "stubborn" he notices he had a strong will to live
Originally Kenshin just says "surrender/give up" (akirame). Meaning he should stop resisting and accept his death. Not that he would be speared if he dropped his sword.
@@chiyo-chanholocaust8143 Being stubborn is synonymous with being strong willed. It's also the word that would likely be used in an actual conversation.
Tokugawa shogunate is not bad at all they just try to keeping order, based on hatred toward foreigner that is not enough case to start a civil war, a war is a worth fighting if you fight a tyrant or a tyrant attacking your country, for what i think Kenshin was fighting for uncertainty future
Not really. Even thought the Edo era was "peaceful" due to the cast system It was this same system that brought down the shogunate. Among other things...
This is an amazing symbolic and sad origin for his scar. I love that it’s basically cursed and keeps rebleeding cuz of the man who desperately wanted to live who kenshin coldly killed. Then beautiful how the second half of the scar is not out of hate but love from Tomoe to release him from the curse of the scar and his pain forgiving him.
He did give the guy a chance, offering to surrender, which would completely change the course of the story. But in times of conflict people are forced into confrontation over politics just because they have adopted an idealogy and anyone opposing it becomes an enemy so naturally surrendering was out of the question. Either that or he wanted to avenge his Master's death.
didn't give him any chance surrender meant accept your fate and let yourself be killed kenshin was an assassin in the service of another faction under no circumstances would he have left a witness free from the moment kiyosato saw him kill his death was already sealed
Given the circumstances: I don't think him surrendering would've resulted in a better outcome. Given the side kenshin is fighting for, and the people he just killed, I'd say it's a safe bet that upon surrender he would either be jailed, or set for execution much like the other men had they put their swords down.
Kenshin never would’ve let guy survive because he saw who he was remember that kenshin was an assassin who had to keep his identity hidden. By offering the guy to surrender he was basically just telling the guy it’s hopeless to try and resist.
Kenshin was a completely different person in the war. This is due to the fact that he killed good men on the opposite side. In war there r good and bad people on both sides. So I say thi's firmly kenshin Really needs Jesus
