    Excellent tutorial video, thank you. I am about to do this exact thing on the door jamb in my garage leading out to the pool deck area.

    He said that the house has a security system and the hole needed to be drilled to put a magnet contact back in the door jamb. Most of us probably will skip that step.😊

    Fyi, its not necessary to notch, especially if you dont attach the kickplate to the new jamb pieces.

    The door threshold will get stomp on daily,
    not sure about the idea to tie the pvc kit to it.

      Hi. Thank you for watching the video. I see your point on the threshold. But, If you have a proper subfloor base underneath the threshold, there should not be any play in the movement of the threshold, so it would not affect the door jamb. Most pre-hung exterior doors come with the threshold attached (side screwed) into the door jamb. For this particular installation, I followed the installation instructions directly from the manufacturer of the Boss Door Jamb Repair Kit website. I usually try to do that, so that others who purchase the product can watch a video instead of trying to decipher confusing instructions. I hope this information helps out. Thanks again for watching and leaving a comment...always appreciated!👍

    Excellent video! What did you use to fasten the pvc brickmold?

      Thanks for watching. I used galvanized finish screws with small heads so that I could fill them in with caulking. You could also use stainless steel screws with small heads.

    Did you replace the brick mold with a PVC version? If not, what will prevent it from rotting again?

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  2 месяца назад +2

      Hi. Yes! The new brick molding is PVC and I caulked around it to ensure that water doesn’t leak behind it.👍

      @@YouCanDoIt2 Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! Think I'll just repair the bottom sections of the brick moldings, like the jambs rather than the entire thing. They're in great shape other than the bottom rot and I have two doors to do. BTW - I went to the Boss Jambs site to watch an install video ... it was yours. 😃

      @@philshock3805 That sounds like a great idea with replacing only the bottoms of the brick mold…since that’s where the rot occurs. And, yes, the owner of “Boss Jambs” reached out and asked for permission to post our video on his website…it was quite an honor. I wish you the best with your project 👍

    $80 for a pair? That’s crazy expensive. I’ll make my own from stock pvc 1x.

      I know….but, it’s not as easy as it may seem. I looked into duplicating them myself for additional jobs. However, you have to router in a notch for weatherstripping, and most stores will not sell small sections of PVC. Therefore, you have to buy large sticks of it and you need two different thicknesses for the door jamb and door surround. By the time you’re done purchasing all of that and making a set you’re into it well over $80. If you are making several sets, then it might be worth it. But, for one set it’s really not worth the headache and is easier to purchase premade.👍
