I was there last year, and this video brought back memories. Beautiful shots, Flo. Your grading style / look seems to have changed a bit in this video.
I've been following you and your work since watching your Beekeeper doc, and your work never ceases to amaze me. Simple and elegant. Always inspires me to pick up my pocket 4k and go out shooting, Fantastic work mate!
The dynamic range in some of these shots are incredible. Some of the day time shots near the Eiffel Tower almost looked like HDR images. Great work, as usual.
Thank you !! And yes, I was quite impressed with the daytime shots too, as it was ridiculously bright for some of them. Was almost not going to film for that reason but glad I did :)
You and Matteo Bertoli are honestly my two favourite cinematographers on RUclips. If it wasn’t for you guys, I probably wouldn’t have even bought my first Pocket camera. Your work is absolutely stunning Flo! Thank you for sharing.
I've been looking forward to this series of yours! Very beautiful sky colors and the Parisian cityscape.... Thanks for the great work! You and the BMPCC6K PRO are a perfect match!
Incredible portrait once again! This little series of portraits really inspired me to do a similar collage of images of cities I've spent some time in, and its one of my fabourite types of video to shoot and edit. Thank you!
Flo, your Instagram comment jolted my memory that I needed to leave a comment about how beautiful this video is! I don't often sit down and watch videos like this, but I always watch yours - they're beautifully done and remind me that one of the reasons I picked up a video camera in the first place was to record the things around me and put them into images - so it's very inspiring to watch these and makes me want to get out and film more of the world. Lovely stuff!! 😊
Wow. Ok Flo, you got me. I’ve been telling my wife for months that I need to do a portrait of our city (Edinburgh) and seeing this has made up my mind. Getting started with planning once the bern is asleep tonight. Great stuff man, you’ve inspired me (and I’m sure a few others) into action!
That's awesome, I would love to see it once it is done!! Edinburgh has been on our list for a long time! I love cities full of history. Hopefully one day there will be a Portrait of Edinburgh from me too :)
This takes me back. I had to keep reminding myself I was there with you when you shot this, spotting my cameos helped. Absolutely love how the footage turned out (even the shots you said you’ll never use lol). I so look forward to returning one day soon.
Excellent cinematography 👍👍👏👏..I would like to see u vlogging in ur videos .. that’s how people will know u more as a person.. this is my opinion though.. BTW loved ur work .. keep making such beautiful contents ..
Thank you so much !! I am really not a good vlogger haha, I did it in Antarctica because it was special and I think I would only do it again to document a specific trip or project. I do put myself in front of the camera a lot more recently though for the rest of my youtube content :).
Amazing footage! I do similar films like yours, I think it's very important to focus more on composition and colors with these kind of portaits, as the story is told through the visual beauty of your footage, combined with subtle music and sound effects! Hats off and keep up the good work. from someone living 3 hours away from Paris :)
Thanks a lot David, glad you liked it !! I have always enjoyed making these videos, my first was in 2014 and since then I have tried to make one each time I travel for more than a day somewhere.
Beautfiul Video again Flo! Did you choose with HFR function already which scenes you want slowmo or just shot everything in 50/60p? Also I hear always from people getting robbed in Paris, did you fell unsafe at any point with your camera in your hand or carrying around the expensive equipment? How do you do that in general in big cities, carry your camera around just with your strap or put it back in your backbag after each shot? Cheers from Germany, Ludwig
Thanks !! Yes I always use HFR since I usually know what I want in slow mo. It is a 'risk' of course but I have always done it. I didn't feel unsafe in Paris but I also know where to go and where to avoid. I made sure to get the shots and then pack the camera away, unless I am in a Park or around a very popular place. In New York or London I am less worried, and in Sydney or Tokyo for example I don't even have to think about it. Cheers,
Bro best cinematic shots !! I have a question plz answer !! I want to buy bmpcc 6k pro !! But i stick with one question !! Is bmpcc 6k pro body is too plastic ??? Means if it slips in hands ,so it will broke ???? And other quest.. it is water resistance ?
6k pro shooting at day is sublime. At the night, a little artifacts, are because you are using a lot of compression, high ISO? How can i denoise it? Thanks!!!
hey of two lands, i have the sigma 18-35 but contemplating getting the canon 16-35 f4 IS for the stabilization sigma or canon, which would you choose my guy?

Bonjour Florent, Superbe travail !
Was this shot handheld? Any stabilization used in edit suite? I’m considering the 6k Pro to use with my old Sigma 18-35mm but I’m having second thoughts because of potential shaky footage.
Yes it was and yes I used stabilisation on a few shots in FCPX. The sigma can get shaky and that's part of the reason I prefer my 16-35 IS when travelling . That being said the sigma is great and the shakes can be fixed in post. I'd say have a go first and see if you need an IS lens :)
Bro i want to buy bmpcc 6k pro !! But i have a question !! Is bmpcc 6k pro , body is so plastic ? Means if it slip on hands , so it broke ??? And last question !! Is it water resistance ? Plz reply
Hey Flo, very nice view. Here's a question: as I told you in a post in one of your late videos, I lived in Paris 15 years and left it few months back. I always wanted to do such a video but I felt so much negativity, oppression and "darkness" from the Capital that I just couldn't take any photo or do any short because I was afraid my personal opinion and the bad things I felt would come in the way and show in any work. As a documentary filmmaker, do you think relying on those negative feelings and creating a portrait of a town showing "the bad side" is relevant? Or should one force himself to manipulate and distort his own perception of reality to show some kind of fake beauty because it's "the standard"?
Hey, That's a really interesting point. I think if it is a portrait of a place by you it should reflect what you see and I believe that it would happen automatically. In my case I am not trying to portrait the place in a certain way, for this series I just shoot whatever I find visually pleasing or interesting. When it comes to documentary work I think it is important to stay neutral unless there is a message that you want to show or say, or an angle that you want to work on, whether or not it focuses on the bad or good side of things. Hope I still answered your question. Thanks for watching :)
@@OfTwoLands yeah, you answered, so I guess there are two views then, the neutral one that's gonna show things as they are no matter what and the engaged view that's gonna be tainted with the author vision. SEE vs PERCEIVE I guess.
Werner Herzog thought the neutral stance was bollocks. He said, "We are directors, we are creators, we should be the hornets that sting!" I agree. The entire history of documentary is rife with fiction masquerading as "document" and the lack of understanding that the moment you point a camera at something you are taking a stand. Especially since the history of documentary is a often a history of tourists shining a light on something exotic or different. Not that there's anything wrong with that. La difference is what gets our creative juices flowing. I feel utterly creatively ambivalent about where I live. But I get out on the road and everything is new. These contradictions are what drive us and make things interesting. I say show the darkness. That would be more meaningful to me than travelogues.
@@REMY.C. I wouldn't use the word 'tainted' when it comes to the author's vision of a subject - it's simply your perspective on it. These days it's easier than ever before to get hold of great gear and shoot nice images. But your perspective is the thing that makes your imagery unique, and brings your unique contribution to the audience's broader understanding of the subject. That's the gold!
Here is a collection of moments from my short trip to Paris.
