This is something that is rarely talked about as it’s more niche in the osu community but it’s the topic of ezhd and it’s affect on normal hidden reading ability. There was a period of time where I pushed ezhd for a good two weeks and would go back to normal hidden as to not hyper focus the skillset. I never really saw any notable gain for my hidden reading. I think the ar with big circles seen in ezhd is far too different from normal hd gameplay to really carry over. I think playing normal maps you play everyday but converted to ar 8 - ar 6 would be a better options to improve reading for hidden as it is quite literally the same gameplay just more dense. Ezhd plays more like memorization of the circles and since the circles are big it hardly takes any regard for aim as well. Just sharing my experience and thoughts on this.
I played ez for tons of months and want to say just one thing for tips; sometimes memorizing is not that bad for sightread skill for ez actually. It may sounds bit weird but its hard to gain your sightread skill while sightread maps and just doing maps that you can read comfortably is not that much helpful. Memorizing patterns does more than just comboing that specific part. It help to read that with consciousness and it doesnt disappear and forget about pattern but left on your memory and could be used to playing other maps. When you saw star patterned jumps with 5 circles first time during play maps with ez, you barely can read and hit them. But realize what shapes they are and remember how number goes with that shape can be helpful for playing other maps in future. But memorizing like nail gun which top players doing with ezhdht things is not that much helpful. Because memorizing is much more than understanding patterns and doesnt really concentrate on approach circle or combo numbers and colors. btw big thanks for videos for introducing and tutorial guide for new ez players. I wished every time for new ez players and this video can help a lot. RUclips needs more video like this
Thanks for the long response, I've had a few other people tell me memorizing helped them, personally I don't like it as part of the fun in low ar to me is that feeling of having too many notes to read on the screen but still hitting the pattern, which kind of gets weaker with memorizing. That being said, if you can tell it's helping you improve, by all means continue)
Thanks, the lag spike you're talking about is probably you failing since you get three lives with ez. To see if this is the case just play one of those laggy maps with eznf and if it doesn't lag there you go)
I started learning Easy by basically memorizing a few maps (sunglow, tsukinami, some low bpm stream map i forgor the name of) until I could actually read the patterns properly and after that played random maps with Easy, usually between 5 and 6 stars but nothing too unconventional. I'm still a noob but that was my real start to the mod because before that I tried the whole playing 3 and 4 star maps with easy and it simply wasn't working for some reason wrote this before finishing the video and i do have to disagree with you thinking memorizing doesn't work. it definitely does help because you're not gonna be sightreading for shit when you're trying to learn it at first
Actually playing flashlight can help u a lot with ez. Because u need to remember the patterns and stuff that's why almost every ez player played flashlight before ez
I decided to fc 4.5 star map with ez and everything feel fast but somehow I can aim and tap. Because of that I can pass jump maps that I struggle before
While some of your advice was sensible, I would advise listening to someone with more experience. For starters, difficulty is not as linear with easy as it is with nomod; sometimes a low star map will be a lot more cluttered and confusing than a high star map. I'd instead advise newcomers to play a map that they are familiar with and that they've played a lot already. If that is not possible, choose a map with clear patterns where circles are positioned intuitively. The only times I am actively reading the numbers on circles is if I am faced with a pattern that I've repeatedly misread and only on that one note where I usually miss. When it comes to actually reading the map, it is much more likely to base the order in which you click the notes by the order in which they came on screen. This process happens subconsciously, without the user having to actively think about more than which circle the pattern starts from.
I'm not sure if the confusion is due to my lack of clarity or a misunderstanding on your part, however, I said the same things you did. "You will eventually need to learn how to read ez without looking at the numbers" and "the best way to learn jumps is to start slow and not play maps with lots of them in a row". As for star rating not being a great measurement of difficulty, I definitely agree, but in my experience, when learning ez, playing a variety of maps, especially ones you aren't comfortable with, is extremely important. This is why I said to go to low star rating, the patterns tend to be simpler, but still diverse, although there are exceptions. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks to this video i actually discover that i suck at EZ, instead i discoverd that i am a FL player, in fact i memorize maps in order to play them with EZ witch is kinda sad but at the same time memorizing maps and then playing them with EZ is kinda fun... But, NO, if you want to be an EZ player you shouldn't memorize maps, because that is a way of playing of FL players and it is not gonna improve your reading by too much... But anyway, anybody should play however they like soo...yeah to whoever wants to learn EZ all i can say is Good Luck PS: by FL players i mean all memory based players like me
I think learning low ar improves your reading in general which is a big part of those maps that he plays, but it's a lot more about aim control, so playing maps that focus on that will probably help more
this is a good vid but the only thing i disagree with is you saying not to memorize maps. its definitely one of the most useful things to do starting out. assuming the map isnt literally impossible for you to play, memorizing can really help understand certain patterns better, as well as just getting more stimulus from playing the mod. even if its only on muscle memory i still think its beneficial
Memorizing hasn't really helped me, and the only time I'd consider it is if you REALLY want a score and there's one or two patterns you can't play. But if it's helped you reach the level you're at, keep going. Thx btw
It's still possible to learn ez through short farm maps but remember - if you only play jumps with ez and nothing else, you won't be able to play other types of maps with it. So although jump farm plays a big role, you should play all skillsets with ez to really learn low AR on any pattern.
@@ginneko3394 I'm mean my early days with EZ, from Harumachi Clover [Maximum Clover Power] EZ FC (80pp) to playing EZHDFL on farm. I occasionally played on non-farmy maps, but I didn't really start getting any notable non-farm EZ scores until after my ban (like Inferno) lol
I tried EZ mod for improve reading but i gave up, it's too confusing for me. Thinking on a chunk and geometric way, for me means stay on the editor, pause and imprinting that figure on my retina like "ok brain this is a square remember it" ...trying to play and yeah, already forgot about that section. 💀 the only good part is that at least i can play well low ar without ez but still bothers me that i cannot learn something
Very common problem, lots of people have told me similar things, and although I don't have a 100% solution, here are a few things you can try: -slow maps down using osu trainer, and I mean to the point where you can clap your hands between each note, this is what i did to make a move and it helped quite a bit -use a skin specifically made for ez, like whitecat skin, it's usually easier than something that has opaque notes since you can see circles through each other. -play old maps, from like 2010, a lot of these have low ar by modern standards, but the patterns are layed out in a way that makes it playable even for people who aren't super experienced with that skillset. You can get these through finding super old map packs. Other than that it just takes tons and tons of playing, out of my ~500 hours on osu about 300 is just ez and low ar stuff. GL
