      Hi. I just found your video's a week ago. They are great. I have a question: why does Wim Hof only 15 seconds of inhaling hold after the breathold ?. You do like 30 to 45 seconds. Is it more possible 🤔 to faint with full lungs?

      Question Tim I have been practicing whm for years, only recently, I modified the method. After first round, once my body is tingling pretty nicely.. i get to the retention, and instead of holding my breath I very very slowly push my stomach muscles back and forth to the count of 30. Meaning one min one breath. I think I discovered easy bake tantra. Let me what you think. TIA

    So grateful for the comment about length of held breath. I am 80 and have been doing Wim Hof breathing for 2.5 yrs. My max is 2.5 mins held breath. Mostly my max is 2 mins. Tim helps me understand that I am getting more red blood cells if I just keep holding my breath as best I can.
    Also, I asked Tim about the 5 Tibetan rites and the cold shower. He explained why the cold shower is fine. I believe in the cold shower.

      I am replying to myself here. Over the past week, i have used Tim’s 5 Tibetan Rites video daily plus his 10 times TT 10 breathing exercises with the energy squeeze. That squeeze strengthens my pelvic floor as well as pushing spinal fluid up to my brain and tuning up my pineal gland.
      I am going to keep working through all of Tim’s exercises.
      As an 80 year old, I am also doing 10 minutes of yoga around the tree position for flexibility, strength and balance.
      I am so grateful to Wim Hof for his work with breathing and cold showers. His work got me started 2.5 years ago. After one day, my covid-driven nightmares ceased.
      For me, moving to Tim van der Vliet was a natural progression.
      To close, the book Breath by James Nestor is foundational reading for understanding the critical importance of breath work.

    Even after Jui Jitsu, my striking is still sharp towards the end of class. From what I know is EPO does a similar thing, which is why endurance athletes take it, but Wim Hof is natural and not banned.
    Highly recommend anyone to add breathing before exercising, mentally your able to push more and your body responds to it.

    I am so glad I stumbled on this. In the first month that I did that I reached 3:55 holding my breath. A year later, I haven't been able to go past 2:20. I keep thinking that I am not breathing efficiently. Also when I first started I used to get that tingly feeling or numbness and I used to feel like I was floating. Now I do 60 breaths and I barely get it.

    • @monstersaint
      @monstersaint 4 года назад +1

      I mean this respectfully: forget about time;
      go more deeply into the sensations during the hold. And you might ask yourself during the hold: who is this I? and then listen. There is so much more going on with this than hold times.
      Also, you might look into some parasympathetic breathing/ CO2 saturation, SOMA delves into this. It's like the left hand/ Yin, whereas WHM is right hand/ yang. WE need both to come into balance. Good luck to you sir and keep experimenting and gently exploring new techniques.

    This is why it has such comprehensive results, because most common symptoms from allergies to anxiety attacks are as a result of low stress tollerance. The hold (in or out or both) increase that tollerance dramatically. He could put much of big pharma out of business lol...and that would stress them out. They could then try it, and be " RE - FORMED"...

    I tried it with a PulseOx, and the O2 dropped to about 80% saturation at 2 minutes, when I took another breath.
    The hypoxia probably causes the release of HIF, which activates stem cells and angiogenesis. Another way of doing this is by using a hyperbaric chamber for an hour, and then getting out, when there is a relative hypoxia while the O2 saturation is returning to the normal atmospheric pressure.
    Very interesting...

    Sustained hypoxia as in COPD, high altitudes etc causes release of Erythropoietin from the kidneys which acts on the bone marrow to produce more RBCs. Whereas this may benefit in such cases, in normal persons increased RBC count causes the blood flow to be sluggish and this can result in hypoxia and other complications of decreased flow through capillaries

    I believe in the Wim Hof Method. It worked for me a year ago, however, the last time I practiced ( 2 weeks ago), the ringing in my ears (tinnitus) was just too overwhelming, but even worse, the following day I also became very fatigued with a headache, both of which I never get, and it lasted for a week steady. Now I am hesitant to try WHM again, as I fear it triggers something wrong inside of me.

    • @brendanhill5948
      @brendanhill5948 4 года назад

      Troy Babs The tinnitus is probably from the increase in blood flow to the brain and head during the 15 second breathe in hold, it also increases your blood pressure for a short time which can also cause ringing in the ears. I wouldn’t worry about it too much but you should talk to your doctor about it.

      My father is 82 and he's had a buzz like tinnitus for ages, no doctors have been able to heal it but now he's practicing Wim's breathing along with his "horse stance" and he says that the buzzing goes away after the horse stance excercise. That convinced him to keep doing it from day one.

    I think it's simpler to think about the processes you are describing by thinking about what is happening with CO2. During hyperventilation arterial CO2 pressure drops. During the breath hold CO2 is restored. CO2 is triggering the other processes, like BOHR, the nervous system responses, capillary dilation. The reason blood O2 saturation may increase during hyperventilation is because the BOHR effect is being depressed by the loss of CO2 - less O2 leaves the blood thereby increasing SaO2. The way to get more O2 into the blood with breathing isn't by hyperventilating, it's by breathing air with higher pressure O2, like the oxygen machines they use in hospitals. Anyway, its easier I think to see it all through the lens of CO2. The hormone you were thinking of is erythropoietin

    i am asthmatic since birth. i was dumb enough to start smoking and finally decided to stop this year on February. i had major caughs all the time since corona i couldn't even go out do sports much ... so i became very short of breath .. i even had pain and thought it was over . for sure im fucked.. but i got told from a friend about wim hof and started it. and i kid you not. instant results. breath hold was just maybe 40 seconds but the next day i woke up with not needing my asthma spray and no cliquey feeling in my throat like always. sure it came back because its no wonder method but i could go through 3/4ths of my day care free. now its my 1st week and hell i feel a lot better. cold showers were never a problem but for anyone with also neurodermatidis like me i can only recommend them. i used to burn my skin intentionally since the itch was unbearable but not its ale mostly gone around my body since the cold water also cures that kinda. and added benefit is that even tho it sounds counter intuitive, the cold shower helps me go to sleep. i had major sleeping issues and with wim hof they are all gone. i can only recommend it.

    Hormone that produces Red blood cells is called erythropoietine (EPO) -
    -
    Feel good, psychedelic hormone that is produced when CO2 is low (hypoxia) = DMT (DMT = dream hormone = melatonin minus CO2)
    -
    Low saturation of oxygen in the blood = hypoxaemia

      Tim van der vliet - no 😊 - low saturation of oxygen in red blood cells = hypoxaemia ; when CO2 is too low, O2 cannot enter the cells (bohr effect) - this leads to hypoxia ... you can have hypoxaemia, without being hypoxic ... (long retention without lack of CO2) ... .

    Thanks for the video! I have only been practicing Wim Hof breathing for 2 weeks, and my breath holds have increased to about 2:30, which got me sort of concerned. I have a pulse oximeter and it showed my oxygen saturation got down to 40% one time and around 50% another time. (I've only tested it twice) Again, I was wondering if this is healthy or potentially dangerous. It rose back up to 99-100% within around 10-15 seconds. It sounds like this is not something to be worried about. I've been doing only nose breathing for WHM, which is my way of trying to take a seemingly important part of the Oxygen Advantage approach (Buteyko method) and apply it to WHM.

    So basically simulate sprint running and then deep diving. When you hold your breath your body prepares to go under water so your heart rate slows down, thought itself slows down and your blood vessels retreat to the inner internal organs. You don't really need the hyperventilation, it's only to get in as much oxygen so as to hold the breath longer. The real focus is on holding the breath for as long as possible to bring about the effects of deep diving.
