Hope Tim doesn't mind me answering you, but the spine is soft so it does not create a spark. Sorry. But it does hold a great edge.

Thanks Marcel! Confirming, as the Helle Temagami knife blades are polished, the spines are slightly rounded, and do not exhibit a 90°angle.
