I remember playing this and 3 when they came out, I used to think 3 was superior in every way, but I remembered more of 2 over the years and wondered why. I think it's because 2 is an adventure with a clear path, ironically while 3 has a full map, it all feels disconnected. It doesn't help that it's literally a fake world, with no connection to Wario's story. In 2, you start in your home, get out through the basement, and go through the forest out to the sea, to get to the Black Sugar Gang's ship. All the enemies are part of this too, even Syrup who is both a boss and needs rescuing. Who's the villain in 3? It's just a bunch of random enemies, and the final boss is a weird clown. I do love both, but 3 really strayed from this simple but effective story.

You were probably playing the gameboy version on the super gameboy that's why it looked different. There are two different cartridges for this game, the gameboy cartridge and the gameboy color cartridge

Don´t forget this game was released for the ORIGINAL GAMEBOY IN 1997! I mean, look what they were capable to do with such a limited hardware. One of the best games for the console, among "TLOZ Links Awakening", "Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow", "Kirby Dream Land 1 and 2", "Marioland 2 and 3 (Warioland 1), even they were capable to make "Pokemon Gold/Silver" compatible with the system. Crazy times when the developers were creative
It came in '98. Pokémon Gold and Silver kinda worked because the GBC wasn't too different and used a similar engine. On the other hand late colours game couldn't be compatible. I believe indie devs are still creative nowadays.

The scenes where Wario destroys the enemies and defeats the bosses in the above game video symbolizes the reason why in pokemon franchise the Dark type pokemon is weak to Fighting type since Dark is called Evil in Japan and this represents the Good guys used to battle and KO the forces of Evil.

You mean in graphics or gameplay? Graphics look perfectly fine to me. As for gameplay, well, it is different. This game doesn't play like a Mario game really, whereas the first one very much was still a Mario-style game (the "Super Mario Land 3" in the title isn't just a tie-in name). This is basically what you'd get if you took the unique stuff the first Wario Land introduced but cut out most of the Mario stuff, in order to create something more new and different and unique to Wario. So as for whether the gameplay is worse or not, it's really just down to preference: do you prefer something that's closer or more different to Mario?
I agree that it looks worse than 1, the sfx sound a bit off compared to the first game also. When I played WL2 I thought I downloaded the wrong game because the graphics didn’t seem quite right to me

No, but the mini games for the collectables cost gold. He does them in one try, but normally you would need ab bit of gold to win them :D
