those opening notes are killer! Almost like an upright bass! That's the wonder and power behind the mature Contralto voice.

One of the real contraltos d'agilità. She has simply everything. greath hight, tremendous depth and a wonderful coloratura technique.... It is a shame that she only has a few CD recordings!
I hate how everyone mocks her head/body movements, same with Bartoli, I don't care if they have to turn their head backwards, if they have the ability to make such sounds. Her voice is incredible, there is NO one like Podles. Horne who?

I love Ewa Podles - she's one of my favourites. I have to say I'm a little disappointed that she went for the low ending on this one. Still an incredible performance of a difficult piece.

@ludwig05051 Not my thing to compare artists with one another, but feel I have to react here. Sonia Prina has a tiny voice and little projection in a concert hall, Podles'voice really blows the house.
@2010wieliczka And also Hallenberg, Mijanovic, Lemieux... There are really many wonderful Orlandos out there. :) It is all a metter of personal taste, although Podles has this interesting tendency to "own" certain arias and roles for me. She just somehow makes everything her own. :)
@ludwig05051 I think both singers have their apparent strengths and weaknesses, but let's see if Ms. Prima can perform this at this level when she's fifty-five years old. As in any sport (operatic singing is indeed an athletic activity), age does take its toll.
@Forellensolo umm who ever underrated podles? she is an absolute operatic wonder and everybody knows that.
@ludwig05051 I don't think so, I've listened Sonia Prina and she has real vocal lacks, poor coverage and legato, unlike Ewa, who also has the triple power and a strong and rich bass.

Sonia Prima sounds better... she makes a better stacatto and sounds much relaxed and agile
Un gros manque de virtuosité qui s'apparente plus à de la paresse qu'à un manque de technique. (Ou alors elle a ingurgité trop de kachenka). Je ne pensais pas qu'on puisse se produire en public aussi démunie.
