    i swear it's the best explanatory video on the Sony A7iii video menu, it's direct to chit-talk, straight to the point, very clear and detailed. Sir you gained one follower today.

    Where to begin with the compliments here? Thank you for your economy of words, your extremely high quality visual presentation, your real-world, practical examples, your lack of background music, and the thorough thinking you share with us to explain your decisions. Looking forward to watching more of your videos on this amazing camera I just purchased.

    One great setting, if you like single focus mode in video (which the a7iii doesn't support) is to set one of your buttons to AF/MF Control Hold. Then you just shoot in manual focus, hold down your custom button until the AF locks on, then let go and you're back in manual so your focus won't change

    Good info. The EVF sensor can be easily switched off by pulling the screen away slightly. I typically pull the top of the screen away just a tiny bit to make sure the sensor doesn't cause any problems.

    Bought this a7III in November 2020 and I haven't shoot a single clip yet as I'm trying to figure out Sony menu and settings. My main camera is D850 and it is alot simple and easier to use for both photo and video. Your tips will be definitely helpful for me. Thank you so much.

    Hi this is a brilliant video, one of the best I have seen. One question. When, in the beginning, you show videosettings your display offers 24 and 30 p in 60 and 100M. My camera with version 3.1 only shows 25 p 60 or 100?
    Why is that?

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 года назад

      Good question. In setup (don’t have the body with me right now, I think page 2 or 3). You will see video system and yours is probably set to PAL because of where you live. I line in an NTSC area so it uses different framerates. You can change it, but you may get light flickering because of the frequency. Hope that helps. Welcome to the channel.

    Hi, when you talk about switching the from monitor to evf and saving settings you can do it. If you go to movie mode and change all the setting to how you want them ( like you do in this video) and then save them to memory 1 or 2. Then when you switch back to manual on the dial for taking photos then nothing would have changed but when you want video settings change dial to ‘1’ or ‘2’ and recall settings and it brings back video settings. I use 1 for normal video and 2 for slow mo

      Hi Marc, I tried saving to Mem 2, but this particular setting (Finder/Monitor) seems to be independent of the memory registered settings. In fact, Finder/Monitor doesn't appear as a setting that is registered when you scroll through the saved settings. This is unfortunate.

    Thank you for this very informative tutorial. I have found however, some limitations, which maybe you did not realize, or maybe I missed it in the video. While using an external monitor I have found the following; first, when the A7iii is in XAVCS 4K mode, my menu settings for the camera only appear on the camera LCD and not the external monitor. If I change the file format to XAVC S HD mode, now the camera LCD goes off and all the settings appear on the external monitor. Does your setup display the same results? Second, when in XAVCS 4K mode, the AEL button does not function as what you show in your video. Camera displays an error "This operation or setting not available as follows File Format XAVCS 4K" It will only work if the file format is set to XAVCS HD. Does your setup behave the same way? Thanks for your help.

    I'm actually looking at buying this camera, but waiting for the A74 to be released. Maybe I can get this at a lower price. This is a great tutorial as it will prep me to know how to use it right off the bat once I start working on 4K youtube videos. Not only that, I happen to have the Rode Video Micro and am looking to pick up the Deity D3 Pro. You used both of these mics as an example and that's really fortunate I get to see how you set up the audio. Personally, I'm so use to liking the 60 frames look on my tech videos and would like to see if Sony would implement 4K60p in the new camera. But we shall find out soon. If they don't have it, I may just very well pick this up at a lower price. You earned my sub. Thank you!

      Once you're used to a framerate, it's hard to move away. I like the 30, but if I were to move to 60 it would end up being a Canon C200... I would need 2... so that's not happening, LOL.
      What body are you using now?

    • @hardlinenexus
      @hardlinenexus 5 лет назад

      @@TechGearTalk hahaha yeah like you I'm shooting Canon. Currently using T7i. So nothing crazy, just started RUclips less than a year ago. Even though i like 60p, it's not a deal breaker. A lot of my fav techtubers shoot on 4K30. I think it's because I enjoy 60p when I do all the b-rolls. But I can't afford a motorized slider yet and my hand movements on 30p aren't slow and steady enough to make it look nice.

    Great video..I've had my a7riii for over a year, and now the a7iii, and I never knew I could adjust the function part of the screen till now.. the menu is huuuggee.. I find myself a bit afraid of messing around with fuctions I don't use all the time cause I'm afraid I'll screw up the controls

      Was this video helpful in that regard? You could always reset the camera after playing around with the settings.

    Hi, I just purchased sony a7iii with tamron lens,
    your videos and replies in the comments were very helpful to me,
    Thank you so much :)
    Im trying to explore the camera, in video i see only 100p at the max even in 1080,
    should i switch to NTSC /PAL ?

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 года назад +1

      So glad I’ve been helpful. Yes, if you switch to ntsc you’ll see 120. But when not in slow motion, you may get flickering lights in your video because you’re using the wrong mode for your area. Does that make sense?

    • @jaybhushanr7362
      @jaybhushanr7362 4 года назад

      @@TechGearTalk Thank you 😇 will switching from NTSC to pal or pal to NTSC format memory card all time ? ..
      Or is it better to shoot in NTSC all time and correct flickering later

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 года назад

      I would first ask yourself why you want to do that switch. I don't believe you'll want to attempt to correct flickering later. What fps were you planning on editing in?

    I did video shooting at 24p 100M , and noticed more than expected motion blur. It could be my shutter speed, which I think I set at 50. Is there a way to check at what shutter speed the recording was done? Thanks for all the tips, it has been very helpful.

    hi...it was helpful...but u haven't show how to wash out function menu and asign it again

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 года назад

      Good question - I guess I missed that because I just got that question twice.
      Go to MENU->Camera 2-> Page 8->Function Menu Set. (so basically the same place where you select options. On page 1 of this (which is the upper row), set every option to "Not Set" which is the last option on the list. This will clear out the top row. Then go to page 2 in order to get the settings you want. Hope this helps.
