      It is a bit close to Techmoan. I've gotten that a lot. I was given the name by my 6th grade science teacher. He would call me Technoman because I'd always bring my electronics projects to school.
      I was also basically the schools tech support. I'd get called to the office to fix computers during class. I like the name and the branding it has allowed me to create and I am sure that people will learn to distinguish.
      I am working on being more active. I really enjoy content creation. I just find it hard to get motivated sometimes with everything I've got going on.

    Either way that would've been good for just the case itself for $85. And having a working DVD drive. You made out good. People are paying $200 for a broken one with a broken drive. That's crazy. I understand the Love for the system. I have 3 of them hard modded and custom painted them.

    When it comes to the feet of the console, the first tutorial i ever saw said that I should only pry it up enough to get to the screws to remove them. I still follow these advice and even to this day I never had to remove the feet of an Xbox completely. I just put a bit of pressure on the feet after I repaired a console and most people didn't notice it.
    P.S. I don't care about warranty seals when repairing consoles and I also disclose it when I had to open up a system for repair before selling it.

    That was awesome I enjoyed your video... I've owned one of these OG Halo edition Xboxes since like 2008. At one point the power button stopped working and the only way to turn it off or back on was to physically unplug it. So I swapped out the little board that goes behind the eject and power button and that solved it apparently the traces on those boards are prone to not working right after sometime or conditions. So then it worked great and then I thought I would redo the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU well I was never able to get the GPU heat sink off it was just stuck on there like glue. So I put it back together having only replaced the CPU thermal paste And it never turned on again. So I ended up just getting a donor regular Xbox and swapping out the entire board and power supply. The only thing I reused was the DVD drive. And it works great again. Thanks great video

      Having spare parts is always nice! I believe this is a Rev. 6 board so yours may look different but this seems to be the most common failure on these units. I wish included more of my troubleshooting process in this video but I didn't film it. I also tested the power supply and power button board to insure that the caps were the problem. I will get better at making these types of videos as time goes on :)

      @@Gwapanese you can soft-mod a 1.6 just fine, if that's what you meant with "only a mod chip can be installed into those". I soft-modded mine and replaced the stock hard drive with a 40GB unit I had lying around. I'm currently trying to resurrect it, so I can fix the dumb timebomb in the softmod, which puts you in a clock loop unless the system time is less than somewhere in 2019, and change the dual boot to the XDK dash, so I can better toy around with development on it.

    5:00 You actually can replace the top metal RF shielding, you just gotta bend the metal tabs back down so they're digging into the plastic again and wont pop out. I always remove the top part so I can more easily clean the plastic shell in a soapy bath.

    • @_Technoman_
      @_Technoman_  Год назад

      The shield was heat staked into place. While you could get it off without breaking the plastic parts with some patients and bending, in the case I just broke them off. The case looks better without it anyway since you can see the disc and hard drive :)

    I have gotten a laptop from what appeared to be a smoker's home, because of its smell of cigarette smoke. I booted it up and IT STILL HAD THE ORIGINAL COPY OF WINDOWS 7 AND ITS ORIGINAL HARD DRIVE! But when I started CrystalDiskInfo, the boot drive said “Caution” and not “Good”, even though I did not mess with any setting. It’s a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 500GB and CrystalDiskInfo said that the drive was SATA/300, meaning that that drive was SATA II, not SATA III, but I have some 320GB SATA III disks and even 250GB SSDs! I'm planning on replacing that hard drive with a SATA III drive to hopefully speed things up.

  • @Pulverrostmannen

    you should always remove or replace the clock capacitor on these when working on them because they all leak and ruin the motherboard completely , the 1Farad supercap, the 1,6 version requires a cap in place but I use to just put a normal 1000uf cap there on them instead. and those caps fail 100%, the 1,6 does too but it takes a bit longer before they do compared to the older versions

I have actually had some contact with the Senior Electrical Engineer of the Original Xbox but he doesn't seem to keen on talking about the past. He is at a different company now and I'm sure he is a very busy man. I had originally contacted him about some information on the development of Microsoft Actimates, which was an interactive kids toy, really interesting, because I wanted to make a video about it. I wouldn't recommend using a Screwdriver with the Micro Fibre Cloth. I would recommend a blunt tool like a plastic spudger which isn't likely to scratch plastics. As strong as the Micro Fibre Cloth is, if you are not super careful, the Screwdriver blade will peak through and scratch the plastic. I have been there, seen it, done it and got annoyed about it afterwards.
