    Use reference tracks. Until you really have experience, nice equipment and monitors, and a nice treated room, reference your mixes against a track you know sounds good and is similar in sound to what you’re going for. This also helps you learn in the mixing/mastering stages what it takes to build a listenable track. It also has the added benefit of not costing hundreds of dollars.

    Loving the use of the 360 cam! What a great video. I've always held off on monitors because I don't know where to start with treating the room! Those iLoud micros might be a great solution I never knew existed!

    Great video man, tuning your room is definitely some of the best money spent. I would say though that foam can really be a cheap and easy way to tame your high end as long as you don’t add it all at once. I totally agree with what you said, tame your low end with bass traps and broadband. I also used diffusion to my advantage, along with a fair amount of foam on my side walls, but I only added the amount of foam that I have after mixing and testing and then adding foam. If you do it in small increments you can really tune your room perfectly or nearly perfect.

    I think getting some flat headphones wouldn’t be a bad a idea at all. Sennheiser’s HD 600 add no coloring to the sound, they’re just super flat and excellent for mixing in an untreated room

    Take your monitors outside in a secluded area and mix. No sound waves bouncing back. Plus it's free. Think of all the money you'll save.

    Hello. What are the size and thickness of your panels? I’m trying to treat a room that’s very similar to the same size as yours. Are the panels 2” thick or 4” thick? You say they are broadband How much bass absorption Is there? Is it hitting at 125Hz or anything below?

    How would you rate the Focal Alpha 50s, size and otherwise, for an untreated (for now) room. My other option being the Adam T5V or T7V. Thanks.

    So what if you are mixing on headphones?

      Obviously that's not an ideal way to mix. I would highly recommend the ikMultiMedia iLoud Monitors. They're the best monitors for a small studio and they're not crazy expensive.

    Hey Lewin just a quick question....do you ever get a sympathetic vibration from one of your guitars
    hanging in the room. I have gotten one from a metal ornament hanging and a picture hanging in
    the room. Like the look of the room!

      Yes, occasionally that does happen. But only when I’m listening at very high volumes.

    Forgive my naivete, but would just using headphones, and maybe adjusting EQ to lighten the bass do it? What do people do when your music is playing in a variety of settings/rooms?

    • @GaragebandandBeyond

      Yes you can mix on headphones, but they should not be the ONLY thing or even the main source of your audio. The tone of headphones is very colored, with extended highs and lows. I do however use and like the Avantone Mixphones for balancing levels, they're fantastic headphones. They're essential tools in my process.

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  3 года назад

      @@WldHny1 The second question... I have 3 sets of monitors that I switch through and listen for different elements of the mix in them. The Avantone Mixcubes for example, are like microscopes for music.

    You can always just mix in headphones. Everyone knows that's the best way to mix! LOL / you're SEO score on this video is 5/100 ... Is it a strategy to have no tags?

    Who are you speaking to? Pros know already all that and amateurs will never need such equipment, either have the money to buy it. Or if they have it, they will not become pros buying all that stuff.

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  3 года назад

      Buying proper acoustic treatment won't make you a pro, but it will help you hear you monitors better, which means better mixes in the end.
      This video is for people who are trying to figure out why their mixes sound so different outside of their studios.

      @@GaragebandandBeyond If I apply your solution in my home studio, situated in the left corner of my living room because I live in a big city with very high rents, I truly believe my mixes will sound different after my wife will have thrown me & my monitors through the window : )))
