Love this man. As someone who recently got laid off his cozy 9-5 production gig and is trying to go full time freelance, I’d LOVE to see more of this. Insight like this is priceless
Love the video and your approach to RUclips. It’s a breath of fresh air. One piece of advice, take it or leave it, make a checklist for what you need for your shoot and you will never forget anything. It is also less stressful when packing up!
Man, I really appreciate your transparency, I’m about to jump in to the freelance world after 17 years in construction. Been filming for over 20 years and when I got paid to do a documentary for a work project I realized hey, I can do this! Thankyou for the insight.
That’s amazing!! Good luck to you! There’s some amazing insight from being In construction that you can use. Go and enjoy the process bro, you got this!
Your transparency is admirable, in a world where everyone shows rainbows and sunshines, its really refreshing to see someone being raw and honest. Earned a sub, keep up the good work bro.
One of the first videos in a while that I’ve watched 100% of, and even more than that, didn’t skip forward even once, something about the calm yet informative flow just allows me to watch all of it. Great work man, I can relate to you a lot in the way that I love freelance video that way I can be flexible with my time. Also on the side I also prioritize mental health and other fitness topics as well as I find that’s one thing that I’ve needed the most work on throughout my life. That’s part of the journey though man ! Good luck, and keep posting man, loving the content, specifically what jobs you did and about how you balance that and home stuff, love seeing you not just in action on jobs, but at home too!
Always great to see BTS of the live of a freelance. I'm in a similar boat in Australia. Appreciate the honesty, it's easy to get discouraged when you see only the highlights of other creators. Keep it up mate 🙌
I loved this. Getting a look behind the scenes of someone who does this professionally day in, day out, is just gold. Thank you for capturing and sharing so much of the process!
dude as someone freshly going full time for videography. this is such a breath of fresh air. i have no one to base how my routine should look or how busy i should be. this video means a lot more than you might think ❤️ thank u
I really love these long videos, it really makes it feel like im part of the experience and it gives enough insight on what really goes down at different kinds of shoots 🔥
I could feel you regretting that music video call within the first 10 seconds. This format is dope. No voiceover and you get all your thoughts out in the moment. *Opens up Zillow in Dallas
So far I have watched two of your videos; I love your level of transparency! You are straight to the point, no fluff. It is something that is really needed on RUclips.
Love to see the hustle dude, keep making this. LOTS of filmmakers can relate. Nice to get reminded of how I started. The one thing that boosted my budgets the most was passion projects.
Just found this, love the raw and real. I can't wait to watch the next one. I'm a marketeer trying to get into the videography space, so it's nice to see the real behind the scenes.
Bro, I don't think I've had EVER seen such a Transparent , Honest and Straightforward Photography/Videography , Freelance RUclips Video /RUclipsr yet. You Sir , Literally, got my Subscription Before the video ended. Leaving comments is NOT a thing for me , but your content , this content Deserves to have it. !!!!
awesome video man thanks a lot for sharing your day in a life!! is so empathetic and motivating!! I am Filmmaker from Mexico hustling in San Francisco, and I can't see the light over here. but this motivated me a lot!!
Just take it a day at a time. It’s tough when you have good days like a client hiring you, then you move into slow and no one messaging you. You got this!
Love the content man. Been getting more into videography since I started doing music videos, color grading courses & my own content. This helps give me a little bit more confidence seeing your perspective.
Great video! Love the "raw" nature of it, sort of a like a "day in the life" vibe to it. I appreciate your standards about free gear. So many RUclipsrs get and review gear, but don't actually use it for jobs/work. Knowing how it works on jobs is great feedback. Speaking of, how did the Zhiyun light work out? Or are you saving that for another video?
You can use the glow mist if you screw it on the threaded ring with the text facing the lens if that makes sense! Basically backwards and it threads on.
Loved this video. The honesty is the key. So many people who do video production companies or freelancers don’t tell the truth about the gigs. I agree with you about the music videos. It’s very hard to find clients who are willing to spend money on their projects. They expect to sing about all of their success but in reality they don’t have any money. 😂
I love the idea that you are very natural and real if I’m not mistaking you are in Texas right? New subscriber man I hope you get a tone, really helpful content.
BRO those t markers are game changers! not having to use tape haha you should have had them in your list and you would have made commistion from me. thats why I love checking out small channels because ya it's a 14 min video vut if I can get like 1 single thing for the next shoot to help, its worth it. next thing you know its been 10 years and ive learned so much!
Love the video! Don't see many of these realistic and honest uncut videos I'm just getting started myself and I love the advice you give ❤ Btw, what's this "Bark" app you're talking about? I'm attempting to use StaffMeUp but no good leads so far lol. Just wanted to figure out how to get more leads!
Thanks for posting. The reality is that paying for leads is kind of the way to go while you build up your social media accounts. I tried all the free listings and got 0 calls in 3 months. Bark keeps bugging me but i don't want to pay.
Are half days common where you're at? I'm in STL and our community highly discourages taking half day rates. I appreciate you making this video bc I'm in a similar spot as you!
I’ll be honest, I hear a lot of different things about. I’ve just recently started to try and push for no half days. It’s difficult to get clients to understand that “just a 2 hr shoot” doesn’t mean it’s only 2 hrs of our day. It’s a balancing act right now bc I want to make money but not work for Pennie’s.
Hey Bro, I love your content. this really helps up and coming artists. May I ask what App you were be using to decide on the focal length etc on that first location?
Great video! I love watching the behind the scenes with your thoughts as they happen. Are all this projects your own direct clients? Or are you being hired by a producer? Also the team you showed working with you on the interview at the mural, are they freelancers hired by you for that video only? I also find it interesting that good brands are reaching out to not so huge channels. I wonder if they would reach out to creators over here in Ecuador. When you mentioned about the gaffing job for $400 and bringing your lighting kit for half a day on a shoot, what does that mean? Are you building the lighting rigs using your equipment and not shooting anything? Just rigging stuff? You rented your stuff for that price? PS: I hope you are feeling better!
Alot of the times I am hired by other agencies or videographers. The team is just freelancers that I hire when I need them. Yeah I just bring the lights and set them up!
Hi again Jared. How to you get access to these gaming gigs. Do you phone up the organisers? If so how do you find out who they are? I'm based in the UK and looking to do similar with other specialised events. Would be good to know who/how to contact them. Thanks again in advance.
