I really like her answer to the question… “Is Hoodoo a closed practice?” And she stated it’s “protected”. That’s mean essentially it is gate guarded by the Ancestral Spirits. Luv it!!

I just found both of you recently! It feels good to be in conversation with other black girls, and seeing how our culture and location shape our practices.

I don't usually comment, but I have CHILLS. From the childhood recollections, references to spirits similar to Yoruba orishas I've been intuitively led to study, family significance... I'm (nearly) speechless! Subscribed to both of you now!

Really enjoyed this vid! I am a black woman of US origin and also a pagan and a witch.
I have been living in Europe for past almost 10yrs, but I am a black US born woman, both my parents and myself were born in the USA. I am my father, who raised me, always were treated as outsiders in the Black American, well Whites also really, US culture, society. We never went to church at all of any kind at all so I feel that was a big part of it. I looked into Hoodoo when I was younger but not having a Christian background I was not accepted nor could I really connect to it. So I would say in a since Hoodoo Is a bit closed in that regard. Same with the fact I know of course as Blacks from the USA I am from a background of slavery, I do not define myself by that. I feel I am more than a descendant of a slave. With that also I found most Black US practises, people even I do not connect with them and they do not find me "acceptable". But I have found Europe in the most part, especially Scandinavia, Nordic countries much more positive towards me as a black US woman. I lived in Hungary for over 5yrs and also visited all the other former Soviet nations, including Czechia. Not found them one big reason they are so Americanized and so much like the USA. Great vid!

I like how you both mentioned about how blacks should read, hear from black Americans about things! One thing I have found that since living in Europe, no blacks from the USA want to hear from me! I thought the experiences of a black US woman, a black US man which was my father, how we are viewed, treated in Europe would be something blacks in the US would want to hear. NOPE. I have always heard and still do hear that if a white American does not say it they do not want to hear it!

Yup Haitian voodoo is not the same as Hoodoo ^.^ Hoodoo is rooted from African American slaves so whatever type of black you are, it doesn’t matter :)
