Today we open up a LaCie Rugged Mini 1TB Hard Drive! Purchase: www.sweetwater... Music: by TeknoAXE: / teknoaxe -Synthwave C -This is My City -Epic Pop Dance
Thanks for the video. Well, it seems it's not that rugged after all. Looks like it's 1TB Seagate hard drive inside. I don't see the model number 1:21. Is it STFR1000800? It would be nice if you add more technical details to your videos. Next time - just bring hard drive close enough and make sure the camera is not out of focus.
not bad it was already dead but i heard that you can put an ssd ther and it well work great it can go up to 480m/s with is so good for 1tb ssd or even 2tb sshd for only 60$
With the right tools you could get some of the Data back - e.g.: www.dolphindatalab.com/product/dolphin-scratched-head-comb-suite-001/ But you had to clean the drive, change the head and got it running and booting again. Thatfor you would need a PC3K / MRT / DFL SRP / ... and some cleanroom-equipment. Forcing the surly broken head into position just introduce many more micro-scratches on the possible good surface. The same is valid for any particles which can come into contact with the platter that way like scraped of particles sticking under the head, etc. Ask yourself - if your child would have pain in the stomache would you open it to see if there is some easy fix or would you go to a propper educated doctor?! PS.: For that slim drives you want to keep the label and the silver sticker in a as good as possible state because you will need them to seal the drive after working on it's internals. And you will need multiple of the numbers on the label for maching a donor drive. So forming the label into a ball and make is less easy to read or risk even that some printed data get rubbed off is also a very bad idea...
Thanks for the info! For this drive I didn't mind losing the data but I will keep all this in mind if I happen to have another hard drive issue. I did learn a bit how hard drives are actually working on the inside so weirdly it was a good experience to have it stop working. Next time though I definitely will not even open it myself. Thanks again!
Hello there, I'm not sure the exact name but I believe it's a "Multi-bit Screwdriver". The size I used for the outside case was T8 as T10 was too big. I don't remember what I used for the small inside screw however >< You can find these in most hardware stores, I just went to the closest one to me at the time. Hope this helps
The bit I used was this one www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/wiha/75745/5978421. The screwdriver was just called a multi bit screwdriver but I can't remember anymore what the brand was. I don't believe I have it anymore as I've moved multiple times since the making of this video
Hi, I was wondering what is the difference between the LaCie rugged MINI and the regular version? Is the mini slower or have any disadvantages? Thank you so much!!!
Sorry for the late reply I don't know the differences because I have ONLY had the MINI but it worked well when it worked. The only problem was the USB convertor which failed on my second drive. I still use the drive now but as an internal hard drive.
So how exactly did you get the screws out? Mine has thise little tit (only way I know to discribe it) inside the head preventing me from pushing the screwdriver all the way in.
Sorry just getting to you now I've been away some months. I actually didn't run into anything like that in any of the screw holes or with the screwdriver. Were you able to ever figure this out?
ruclips.net/video/doHYppOBbf4/видео.html hey I found this and tried it and it works! Sorry mine didn't have that little tit thing but I got a new one and it does. Hope it helps I can confirm the technique worked for me
the edit at the end was gold, thank you

Hold up, is the HDD just a SATA mount?? Hmmm. I may need to buy the cheapest rugged drives and swap in some larger SSDs
You can reuse the case with another drive. Preferably an SSD
See that's a very good idea and taking it apart was a very bad idea haha. Thanks for watching
nice video, and I during good thanks. I've had i great day here in Denmark besides school lol
Chill ^^
I’m not doing good, thanks for asking.
Why what's up?
😂😂😂😂😂 “so don’t try to force it”
What is inside the flat Lacie portable SSD ?

Thanks for the video, was just wondering where can I get the screwdriver you’re using? And I didn’t fully catch the name, was it a T10?

hey, whats the screwdriver and size that you had to get in the middle of the video around 2:55?

Oh my God no.. don't take the screws out of the drive itself! You just needed to take the hard drive out and get a new USB 3.0 caddy dude..
I know definitely messed it up! Now I don't even think about opening my drives haha
how would that work if the drive couldn't even operate how would the data transfer?
@@meantouch the issue was with the enclosure, not the drive itself
Thanks! Is it a CMR or SMR drive?
Hey I'm honestly not sure at all sorry. I even tried to find out online and couldn't find anything about it
Hitachi...??
Seagate...??
or WD...??
@@exdafrianz3939 afaik LaCie uses Seagate HDDs
what did you do with the oldcase? I'm trying to buy one with thunderbolt but I want to use it to swap drives.
Hey I actually gave it to a friend so I no longer have it

@@marioCazares Yea, they're specifically called security screws. Means they need a special screw driver.
