- Bahia Honda State Park is just 45 minutes from Key West, and is one of The Top Florida State Parks and some of the best Florida camping in the Florida Keys! Bahia Honda has its own beach, marina, and campground that accommodates RV's, tent campers, and even those who want a cabin to stay in. Bahia Honda State Park is just a short drive in to Marathon, Florida as well. This is a bucket list campground and we recommend sites 16 & 25 right on the water! They have cabins and tent camping too!

I was told that Bahia Honda was one of the best places to stargaze. Their stars are apparently not hindered by city lights. They also said this time of year, February, March was a great time as the air is crisp and a little cooler
Forgot to also ask. They say there's a chance to see the milkyway ?
Anyone with information for us. My nephew. My sister's son has never really seen stars. This means a lot to us.

Very helpful video, especially regarding specific sites. I am however stunned at the difference in the vegetation. So much of it is gone after Hurricane Irma. This island was lush with palm trees, sea grapes and large mangroves. It was actually shady in many of the sites. It will recover quickly and it is still beautiful. Thanks.

We cannot wait to experience this campground someday!! We’ve been to the state park, but that was pre-RV. We tried when we were in FL last, but couldn’t get a reservation on such short notice. Maybe next time!

We were there after the hurricane and most of the vegetation was gone. The next year it came back some. They have done a good job on the sites.

Going back for Christmas with my granddaughter. First time I'll be camping in Bayside, I have always stayed in Sandspur but it is still closed due to hurricane damage. Can't wait for Sandspur to reopen but still excited about going to Bayside.

Cool video. Back before Irma you could walk over a mile east to more very private beaches. It’s all closed off now.

check first. see campsite map, last time i was there some of the smaller tent sites are on the waterfront/ beach,...but booked ahead, maybe 6 months in advance

Thank You so much. I believe the limit is 14 days at a time to stay there, which is generally the same at all Florida State Parks.

Im so sorry that we aren't experts on RV's, we have owned a small Class A and it has been fine for us!

You can go right in from one of the waterfront sites! The beach is a short walk from the campground!

I don't think so, like all of the FL state parks you have to reserve in advance. Now some parks do save some sites for walk up, but you would need to call them to be sure. TY for watching!
b h , is probably the most in demand state park, theres usually quite a waiting list, ..phone ahead first, especially these challenging times
my favorite spot is site 68 on sandspru side... still under re-construction from the storm

@@LeesaGio all of sand spur used to be tent sites because of the low clearance of the hardwood hamock. I hope they keep it that way. if you go to youtube and type in campsite photos bahia honda, campsite photos has a short video of all the sites, Sandspur starts at about site 49 and runs to 72 ...73-80 are over by the cabins
Make sure you book at least a year out or you won’t get in and watch out for the no seeums in mid to late may they will bite ! But it’s still an awesome place to stay

Ok we are going in April. Been there twice before. Is the area you mentions after Bahia Honda, just over the bridge that you said was Heritage Trail, was it left or right after the bridge. We would really like to check that out.
So as you are headed towards key west on the bridge, just as the bridge ends going over the water, it should be to your right. There was a turn off there, but it was easy to miss, I think I had to turn around myself to find it. Hope this helps, trying to remember best I can. I wonder if you put the name of the trail in your gps would work as I didn't know the name of the trail at the time I went, worth a try as well. Let us know if you end up finding it!

Reservations are extremely hard to get. Seems the campsites are all booked almost all year.

I like to camp out of my minivan. Do they frown on that in the tent camping grounds? I was thinking of buying a cheap pop up tent and just place it next to my van. I am not sure if it's necessary. Thanks.

where is the location of the overseas highway trail that you did the video - with the peninsula.
From my recollection it was as you headed toward key west, you pass the entrance to Bahia Honda and as you went over the bridge, it was the next right. Hope that helps.

I do not like any parks in Florida( swimming) next to the road, or highway, it's always too dirty, but when you go away, mmm that's where you find a hidden gem. I didn't like Cocoabeach at all or Daytona or Fort Laureldale

Hi Sharon, we do both. I thought you might like that I am remembering to have the tent sites in these more often! I scout sights for myself on long trips so i get where I want to camp! We were in Marathon Key so decided to drive on down to Bahia Honda! We are in Oregon in July and are hitting a few state parks along the way there! Thank You for that feedback, it's a tough one because if you share pricing on the video and then over time it changes, that rubs people the wrong way also. If we put that info in the descriptions, are you a viewer who looks at the descriptions at all?

Yes, actually there was a great spot next to the campground right under the bridge where I saw folks fishing and they had shade from the sun because of the bridge!
What is the pricing?
I try to stay out of the pricing in the videos so down the road people don't complain to us for it when they change. Just curious though, are you a viewer that would look in the descriptions if that info was down there? just trying to get a read on that idea!
@@CampTravelExplore yes, just trying to get a general idea. Is Bahia Hondo just as expensive as far as state parks go? I am also sure that prices may vary by season.
From what I have seen, most Florida State Parks have are usually around the same prices or within 5-10 dollars of each other!

the florida keys is home to the only indigenous palm tree, little palm , island,.. all the tall palm trees are not native to this part of the world,..
if u want to see the real florida. big lagoon state park, c; dont tell everyone, its a best kept secret.
