Alberto Tomba made a sensational Olympic debut in 1988 in Calgary, winning both the giant slalom and the slalom. Four years later at the 1992 Albertville Olympic Winter Games, he successfully defended his giant slalom title to become the first Alpine skier in Olympic history to win the same event twice.

That day Alberto won against two great skiers, Marc Girardelli and Kjetil André Aamodt . They deserve much respect and make Alberto's exploit even more remarkable.

Quel giorno Alberto battè due grandissimi come Girardelli e Aamodt. Gara tirata al massimo e splendida vittoria. Si decise tutto nelle ultime porte.

Best alpine skier ever.
Tomba was no alpine skier. He was a slalom specialist, only competing in slalom and G-slalom. A true alpine skier masters all disciplines, like Kjetil Andre Aamodt or Lasse Kjus for instance, taking Olympic medals and world championships in ALL disciplines. That's a true alpine skier.
ventende In fact a real football player shall be able both as a goalkeeper, both as a striker. Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi are not football player!!!!!
ventende ....and talking about skiers even athletes like Ingemar Stenmark or Franz Klammer cannot be considered "true skiers" at all...the first was, like Tomba, a SL and GS specialist, while the second a DH specialist...far away from the definition of "true alpine skier"!!

Watching his amazing performances was a privilege I am deeply grateful for. Watching him and the legendary Ravel's Bolero by Torvill and Dean... Wow!

Definitely the best ever in slalom and G slalom, extraworld athl. power, stunning skiing class, but most of all he changed the ski world x makin' it media minded ,crowds interest in ski reached a level not seen anymore until present time . Yeah he was no polyedr. skier coz he hated dh competions, but as someone rightly stated then suiting this kinda clueless attitude about sports guys like Messi,Pele', Maradona, K. Bryant or even Jesse Owens would be minor im comparidon to overall sized turkeys
