I remember seeing this great comeback on TV, as Maier overcame a dense fog and won the gold medal in the Super-G. It's enough of a miracle that he overcame the crash in the downhill unharmed. The unsung heroes in this story, though, are his fellow countrymen, who rooted and pulled for him all the way.
I followed Hermannator's career in progress, while I was an avid International Skier & Club Racer > but not until you read his life story & see videos, do you realize just how MIRACULOUS his life & career was!
in 2014, the DFB invited Hermann to talk to the German Football Team about motivation, spirit and so on....the rest is history..Germany won the Wolrd Cup ;)
did he not get at least a sprained shoulder?? old news...incredibly fit and trained dude from the wrong side of the RR tracks in Austria...true survivor...
I think the video should also show his second great olympic comeback: After he got knocked off a motorcycle in 2001 and almost loosing his lower leg (doctors were close to amputating), he came back to skiing and in the winter olympics in Torino 2006 he managed to win the silver medal in the Super G and the bronze medal in giant slalom!
And the best is the start of his career, he was the camera skier for TV, just for fun somebody took his time and it went out he'd won the competition if he had started.
@@logant44 Hilarious, because it‘s not quite true. He was a forerunner, not a camera skier. And he would have placed 12. if he were a contender. But that was still enough to give him a chance in the lower tier European Cup, and the rest is history…
john Handfield you definitely have no idea how hard that sport is. They ride alot faster these days and are all fearlees. Blue lines do not ski fo them. Still Herminator is maybe the GOAT

And the best is the start of his career, he was the camera skier for TV, just for fun somebody took his time and it went out he'd won the competition if he had started.
That’s hilarious

@@lieutenantkoerschgen5714 That's how mythology happens!
Now the racers have blue paint so they can see better and better skis. Then it was how far you would push yourself
