I'd love to see what you'd do to these budget decks as upgrades without a budget, I love anything affinity related and would love to know what you'd do with no cash limit
I still often play regular Affinity (Grixis) and it's still very powerful, even without Mox Opal. I think a build as close as possible to the old version is still the most streamlined and powerful (outside of the Hardened Scales version), but with the addition of Gingerbrute and Ensoul Artifact. My version, fully powered with Inkmoths, is about $150.
As a Bogles player that was definitely a rookie pilot lol. In my early days I also made the mistake of attacking in with a Bogle and not enough toughness. Also you never ever keep a hand without a creature more so specifically a bogle unless you're down to four. Mine is Esper Bogles and it's very different lol.
Two questions for you: 1. What do you think about including grapeshot? Seems like it might synergize nicely with all the zero casting cost artifacts. 2. I'm still learning the rules. How does Kazuul's Fury meet the Lurrus restriction? It has a 3 CMC?
I have a general quesiton. Do you think that Modern could bear having the original artifact lands unbanned? It may be too broken, but it would make the artifact strategies far more potent in an otherwise-stale meta.
Match 2 game 3, if you had used ravagers moduler on the memnite you would have had the fling kill the following turn when they just had a sanctuary open.
Heres an idea for budget storm in modern, blistercoil weird and paradise mantle with just cantrips using fling, something that gives trample, or grapeshot as a finisher
I had a weird Storm Mill deck that used Diligent Excavator (mill 2 whenever you cast a historic spell), Altar of the Brood (mill one whenever a permanent enters), and lots of 0-cmc artifacts. Had 4x Tormod's Crypt and 2x Days Undoing in the main deck, so the Hogaak meta of the time didn't even bother me too much. Could sideboard in Reckless Fireweavers/Grapeshots to go another non-mill route too. Was actually pretty decent - was basically a Paradoxical Outcome deck with weaker 0-cmc artifacts!
Shrapnel blast the bounced snapcaster in response? You still have lethal attack (assuming no more removal/no counters). Seems basically the same play as shrapnel blasting their face. They probably don't have a bolt in hand AND a counter otherwise they would have done that (safer for them) so the play of bouncing snap implies to me they don't have it all. Obviously things could still go wrong, but it was early concession/misplay.
Match 2, game 3, turn 4: Anger of the Gods on the stack, you should sacrifice Ravager to itself and use Modular to put counters on the Memnite. Since you save 1 mana not having to equip the Cranial Plating to Ravager, you now have mana for the Fling kill

Seeing you play against a bogles player who kept a no creature hand really makes me want you to play in actual leagues with budget magic decks. I know it makes them look worse but it’s a better representation of what it feels like to play at a competitive FNM
I think these card prices are all so low because most artifact aggro players switched archetypes when KTGC was printed. If you look at the graphs all started dropping in price around WotS
I think the etched champion in the sideboard can be replaced by a slag fiend. Champion is terrible top deck and you really want it to dodge removal. It kills your Lurrus plan entirely and doesn't help you after a wrath. Slag fiend can be a 1CMC 5/5 or maybe larger after a wrath (or a bunch of removal from your opponent) and costs... I think 25c? This is obviously a budget choice, but it keeps you in red and can even be flung for the last few damage after a wrath (something etched champion cannot do).
I don't think the reprints had anywhere near as much to do with the price drop on Ravager as the banning of Mox Opal to pay for Urza's sins. Affinity and Lantern went from T2 to not meta because WotC was still gun-shy about banning cards they just got done selling to people.
