Zercher squat can honestly be a main lower body lift, it has a easier learning curve then backsquat and i think its safer, not to mention it has great carryover to deadlift so your not missing much I think it can be a better option for non powerlifter general population types .
Its a great lift and a zercher can be rotated as a main lift from time to time if you aren't a competitive powerlifter for sure, let me know how your progress goes!

Yeah, less spinal compression and the weight distribution is just different overall
Why would you want to rest a heavy, awkward barbell on your back? that sounds really dangerous! I personally can't think of a more comfortable place to hold hundreds of pounds than in the crooks of my arms

I love Zercher Exercises. I include Zercher Squats, Goodmorning, and Shrugs into my program. I found that once I included seated barbell curls, JM press, and wrist curls/extensions it made the exercise more comfortable

I love zercher squats been doing them for a while now and they're great for helping correct your foot position which naturally carries over to regular squats

I did zercher squats once. Couldn't feel my left forearm for 2 weeks.

You get used to it, personally I find the zercher hits my legs better than anything else with less weight than other lifts.
God damn Zercher Shrugs, why didn't I think of that???!?? Get yoked from Zercher lifts, cuz the weighted stretching on the upper traps still applies.
The one off of pins at or below parallel with a pause at the pins will help blow your conventional deadlift up, really any zercher squat.

Attempt zercher lifts with caution. The bar only needs to move a bit and you will feel awful pain/numbness in your arm. Much safer lifts exist without the risk
I've never had that problem, any pain literally is just temporary and is gone immediately afterwards.

Do you normally squat with such a narrow stance, or only with zerchers?
It’s not that close, just hip width and yeah that’s how I squat for all variations
ultimately it all boils down to what feels right for your own anatomy and causes the least pain

the way I found to mitigate that is to move with the bar like it's fused to your body, keep it close and slow down enough to pay attention to natural movement
