The issue with the MT-82 generally lies in the shift linkage (not being especially robust/rigid) and the underlying bracketing. The MT-82 has the shifter mounted directly to the chassis via the transmission tunnel. Under hard acceleration/rpm and load, the engine and transmission twist under the torque of the engine (this is normal to an extent on every car), however most manual transmissions (for high powered cars) mount the shifter and linkage directly to the transmission, not the chassis like the mustang's design. This means the transmission moves and twists, but the shifter and linkage doesn’t move with it since it’s bolted to the chassis directly.
This leads to an inconsistent shifter feel, grinding, high rpm lockout, and all those other things you hear about in the forums. Add the scenario of driver at a drag strip trying to shift aggressively and quickly to a shifter design that doesn’t like to be hurried and you have a recipe for complaints and issues.
It's a shame Ford dont put the Tremec into the standard GT's

There is but one way to enhance the enjoyment of your Mustang and preserve its resale value - Tremec. In 2024, that means you buy a Dark Horse. Why Ford stuck with the Gertreg for the 24 GT’s remains a mystery. It’s almost like Ford is courting more litigation. They could at least have offered the Tremec as an option.

The 3160 ain't even that good it don't hold any more power than an mt82. It might shift a little better stock for stock but it certainly isn't a stronger transmission. The clutch and shifter are the main issues with the mt82 this shit has been beat to death over a decade now.

@@rynev3392 Basically Ford claims I was speed shifting and it's normal for the tranny to grind. However, my car only had 3k miles so I went back to the dealer and demanded
they fix the car or let me exchange it for an automatic. I will take delivery of a blk 2024 gt as soon as it arrives at the dealer in a few days. Here's my yelp review.
Update: I've been in contact with Ron Jones and I hope to update the review and increase the rating.
Below is a video of it happening to me again.
      ruclips.net/user/shorts10aXw…
I recently was the proud purchaser of a 2023 Ford Mustang GT. In the process, I had paid a VERY LARGE amount of money as a down payment. However, after the break in period of my new car, I was alarmed that when driving a bit more spirited, it will unexpectedly lock me out of third gear or grind real bad.
It will do this going from 2nd to 3rd gear at 4-5k RPM while getting on the freeway. I took the car in for it's first oil change and described how the issue manifests itself.
At first the techs could not duplicate it, because they tried at 7K RPM. I drove to the dealership and showed them a single time at about 4.5K RPM. They said they'd investigate further but they then waited a few days to tell me it's normal for your car to not go into gear and accused me of "speed shifting" Because Ford does not acknowledge the MT-82 issues, the dealer then charged me $255.00 dollars. Anyone can google search"MT-82 problems", and when doing so the first result that comes up illustrates my problem from a company called CJ Pony Parts.
They could have at least washed my car but returned it filthy
The impression I'm left with is that it is a very bad place to buy/service a car.
      Good Luck on yours!
      Cheers
