    Love to see you working through challenging projects like this that aren't your regular quick fixes and present a challenge. Keep up the great work.

    I have a lot of experience with servicing the BVW-75 series. You may want to run through the alignment procedure for the tension regulator. For example, it is supposed to operate within a certain sensor voltage range, but it may be outside the required parameters. There are adjustments on the “SV” (servo) boards.

    According to the schematics I found, the tape tension sensor (looks like a hall effect type) circuitry is on the SV-83 and SV-82 boards. TP4 and TP5 on SV-83 are the + and - inputs while TP1 is the reference voltage. The sensor output goes through a ton of opamps and eventually arrives at analog inputs (pins 33, 34) of IC111 which is a microcontroller. I'd start by checking whether the sensor inputs of the MCU are changing as expected when you manipulate it manually.

    I forgot about this one. At first, I thought it was the beast machine.

    Im actually learning heaps from you're videos.
    Thanks to you're videos im learning how to trouble shoot and repair my own VTRs that is the Sony bvh 2000ps C format 1 inch reel to.reel models and i enjoy keeping the going.
    Again many thanks.

    My machine is starting to give out error 02-reel trouble while rewinding with the nice bonus of having the tape fly off the tape path

    The swing arm needs to be taken out and cleaned/lubricated. The aluminium and steel combo is screwing everything up. You got me so interested in this machine that I went around looking at other videos only to find that this was the solution and that swing arms are still available as some dude bought 2. Apparently it’s a nightmare to get them off. But what a gorgeous machine this is from way back when. You’re so lucky Dave.

      I've seen them and mine was jammed and I did free it up but haven't actually removed it. I'll tackle this again at some future date.

    I'm lucky I guess that mine works with no problems. And I got mine for free. Had to drive all the way to Toronto to get it though. I also got some other 3/4" and DigiBeta decks.

      This one was free. I did however buy the vo9800. Thats the one I wanted and this one came along for the ride.

    I think you might resolve the tape tension error on this Sony BVW-75 videotape recorder.

    There's not maybe too much back tension, say coming from the supply reel table?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  26 дней назад

      Thats the error but why? Sensor failure or circuit out of adjustment.

    • @crashbandicoot4everr
      @crashbandicoot4everr 26 дней назад +1

      But why would the machine complain about that even in rewind?

    Anyway to reset that machine? Looks good from up here except for error,and having to turn the damm thing on&off 20 times!

    Plastics actually move more freely, easier to repair if broken but metal parts do last longer! Until they gum up get hard to move!!

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  26 дней назад +3

      The problem with metal parts is what you have dissimilar Metal parts such as aluminum and steel it doesn't matter what you put on there to lubricate eventually they will seize up because there's a chemical reaction that takes place between the aluminum and the steel and the lubricant that was used at the factory which was usually a malibidium type grease. The parts basically weld themselves together and they are sometimes very difficult to get apart without damaging them. Plastic can break if you abuse it and when plastic is placed over top of a metal part the plastic can shrink and crack.

    • @crashbandicoot4everr
      @crashbandicoot4everr 26 дней назад

      @@12voltvids So it's the dissimilar metals that cause the grease to become sticky? It's not that the grease itself turns into tar? I learned something new today...

      @kyoudaiken 25 дней назад

      @@12voltvids It all depends on lubricant formulations. For example, it is possible to have a water cooling loop with copper and aluminum parts living in harmony no problem when the right coolant formulation is used.

    Is this machine newer or older than the machine that fed ex fubared?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  26 дней назад +7

      Older. This one would be early 90's 92/93 I would guess. The other one is a BETACAM SX.
      So to go through the history of BETACAM, the format started out as Betamax. Yes home betamax. That's where it started. August 7 1982 was the when Betacam first rolled off the line. I was working for Sony at that time, and we actually had one at Sony. The broadcast sales guys had one set up in a board room and they were demonstrating the gear to the broadcasters. The original BETACAM used the same oxide tape as home beta but ran the tape 6x faster than the standard B2 speed (3x B1 speed) and recorded the chroma using a dedicated pair of heads of a separate chroma track. It brought broadcast quality to 1/2" tape for the first time. 1986 saw the launch of BETACAM SP. This new version used a metal tape and bumped the quality to 340TV lines resolution. Original BETACAM was just over 300, but its the color that made it broadcastable. Color under formats like VHS Betamax and Umatic have pretty horrible color. There is virtually no bandwidth. BETACAM changed that providing the full 1.2MHz color bandwidth . BETACAM SP was thebroadcast standard right through to 2001 when the analog format was discontinued. In 1993 Digital BETACAM was released which sported 10 bit video 4:2:2 color space. 1996 a lower cost digital betacam format called BETACAM SX, which used MPG2@ML and color space 4:2:2. Full broadcast quality. Of course there was HD BETACAM for the HD era and that continued right through to the end of the video tape era. There were other formats, D1, D3, DV, DVCAM, DVC ect. DV/DVCAM run on an even lower color space of 4:1:1. None could dethrone the king though. Even though Sony stopped making the analog BETACAM SP, they had built enough inventory that they sold them through to 2005 when stock was depleted. Many of these last machines were probably bought by TV stations and archive companies knowing that they would need them to archive the millions of tapes that were produced and sitting in tape libraries.
      I have a blany new betacam sp tape that has a sticker that says 200 million sony betacam tapes. Thats a lot of tapes and that is just Sony. Maxell, TDK, Fuji, Ampex also made the metal SP tapes. The SP tapes could be used for both analog and the digital SX cameras. Needless to say there are millions of tapes out there in broadcast vaults around the world. Most successful broadcast videotape format ever. Still think Sony lost the format war?

      I have always liked beta better,I had the sl2000&5000 for a long while! As time went on as you experienced yourself parts harder to get a hold of, I often went through afees Europe electronics surplus , eventually that also disappeared, sold the betas ! bought Hitachi machine ! I guess that's where that saying comes ,Time makes things go away!

      @@12voltvids I must admit, the picture quality coming off the digital SX recording is almost as good as 720p was a few years ago.
