The thing that's so amazing about Bailey is how great his technique is. When you break down the catcher throwing metrics, Bailey's raw arm strength is very good, but not elite. What really sets him apart is his exchange time - how fast he transitions from receiving the pitch to getting the throw off. Here, you can see he's already rotating towards first as he receives the pitch, and the ball is out of his glove and into his throwing hand before he's even finished turning. You can see how much that lightspeed release ambushed Perdomo, especially on a surprise back-pick.
You see the same thing on his throws to second - most of the time, he's already shifting his feet and moving into his throwing motion as the pitch reaches him. That's some elite-level technique, especially when you remember that he has to actually catch a pitch moving who-knows-where while shifting his whole body into a different motion.

I just looked it up. Posey appeared in 9 games in 2009 so the following stat is from 2010, his official rookie year:
      SB attempts: 39
      Caught stealing: 23
If a player is picked off by the catcher at first base, it counts as a caught stealing in the book.
Edit* - I think 39 is the actual number of bases successfully stolen. So the number would be 23 caught stealing out of 62 total attempts

Watching compilations I’m seeing how often his calls are challenged and reversed in his favor. That fraction of a second is making “tie goes to the runner” swing in his favor, and review makes it possible to see that and get it right.
Also, is it my imagination? It looks to me like he’s got two targets for throws to second - either right on the bag or roughly where the runner’s head - let’s say “torso” - will be when the ball arrives. Not saying he’s trying to hit him. I’m saying he has every confidence his guy is going to catch it, and the runner knows that, and the runner is thinking about that throw when he goes into his slide.
I was once a catcher and never had the talent to even imagine that until now. But I think that’s what I’m seeing here.

I'm remembering a Baltimore Orioles game from 1983. Orioles manager Altobelli had used up his utility players AND catchers when it got to extra innings and a player named Len Sakata, a utility man who had been brought in earlier to play 2nd base, was all that was left when the Os needed another catcher. Tippy Martinez was pitching. The Blue Jays batter got on base and was so anxious to run on Sakata that Martinez picked him off. The same thing happened with the next batter, and then again for the third out. Martinez picked off the whole side. Sakata was so relieved he never had to throw to second base that when he came to bat in the bottom of the inning, he hit a home rum and won the game. Sometimes a dreadful catcher can be the winner.

This reminds me of one of the most famous (but not remembered so well!) CS (caught stealing) outs in MLB history. Babe Ruth, on 1b, in the 7th game of the 1926 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, tried to steal 2b with 2-outs in the 9th, trailing 3-2, and was thrown out, tagged by fellow (later) Hall of Famer, Rogers Hornsby, ending that memorable series. It remains the only WS ending on a CS! With the possible exception of his famous "bellyache" in 1925 (suspected alcohol related, and out-of-shape; weighing almost 260 pounds), causing him to have a rare, down-season (only hit .290, with 25 HRs), the CS ending of the '26 WS was undoubtedly his lowest baseball moment. The Yankees took revenge over the next two years, wiping out first the Pirates in '27, and then the Cardinals in '28, each with 4 consecutive WS wins. Arguably the best 2-years by a team in modern (post-1900) MLB history, and the first time to do consecutive 2-years WS sweeps! Overall, the Cardinals are one of the few NL teams that have an edge over the Yankees in WS opposition, winning 3 (1926, 1942, 1964), losing 2 (1928, 1943).

A catcher back in the 70's .... with the Pirates, Manny Sanguillen sometimes would throw guys out squatting on the ground .... and one time he was being interviewed after a game and said this famous quote, "I hit the ball and run like hell!!"

Ive played catcher. Great play. The pitcher was informed. He put the throw by the catcher's ear so he could get it out fast. Even the 1st baseman. Team effort

That was quick! About as quick as Johnny Bench who is arguably the best all-around catcher to ever play the game.
