Guys…worker bees are almost exclusively male. Like in real life the colony has a queen who does the reproducing and kills off the other females in childhood to avoid competition. Like we can absolutely make the argument for misogyny, but if we occam’s razor it; this is the more obvious answer.
@@longliverocknroll5 seriously! To the point where wild male honeybee drones are kicked out of the hive to basically die when winter comes so that they aren't draining the resources the queen and workers need. In addition! Male bees DON'T HAVE STINGERS! You know what this means? ... all the male honeybees with stingers in this movie have to be canonically trans. Including Barry.
So I could've sworn I read a thing about that "bees can only sting one thing" fact is that the stinger gets stuck easily in mammal skin and tears the bee apart removing it but a bee can sting other insects as much as they want. So that means the killing spree joke in the kids movie is at least scientifically accurate.
Fun fact -- the reason why bumblebees are able to fly is because their wings create helical vortexes, flipping their wings both forward and backwards to double their downstrokes, and press down against those vortexes to create TREMENDOUS lift forces. The reason why people ever got the idea that bees shouldn't be able to fly is because of oversimplified engineering models being used when the reality of how their wings functioned was much more complex! When actually properly modeled, the scientific understanding matches the reality--that bees do actually generate sufficient lift despite their proportionally small wing size.

Sometime around 1980, I had a book called Bees Can’t Fly, But They Do. It actually had very little to do with bees. That was just in the prologue. The rest was more just, here’s some stuff that’s kinda weird/paradoxical. I borrowed this book from my school library, took it to read in the backyard, forgot about it and let it get rained on. Art is like cake. If you bring a cake to a party and discover that someone else brought a larger, prettier cake, you might feel like your cake is inferior. But everyone else will just be excited that they get *two* cakes. More art, even art someone else has interpreted before, is always good.
The “laws of aviation” thing is referring to “according to the physics of planes”. And a big difference between planes and bees is that planes don’t flap their wings.
I was gonna say, "Maybe you were overthinking the stinger sharpener... I assume it's like those cartoons where a bull sharpens their horn somehow." Then you showed the joke where he implies he's gonna drain it into a toilet and my brain collapsed into my spinal column. 😅
I’d just like to highlight the fact that there are full dubs for the bee movie in Flemish, danish, Czech, and Croatian, and separate dubs for European and Latin Spanish.
Weirdly enough, I think Willie and Bee Movie's versions of the "bees shouldn't fly" quote is a perfect image of their two different philosophies. Willie's ends with "but nobody told the bees that" line, which means that having the awareness of a problem makes it feel impossible to deal with. Meanwhile bee movie says that "bees don't care what humans think", which means that even if something is impossible or unwise, you can still do it anyway. In that way I guess the quote is perfect for the movie. Because the logic of filmmaking said "there's no way you can make an entire animated film based on half-baked bee jokes; but Jerry didn't care, and made the movie anyway.
You've unlocked a memory of me also having the exact same problem with the bee clothes as a kid, so know that at least you weren't alone in that opening scene ruining the entire movie.
So glad the issues were resolved and we get to enjoy all your hard work!🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝❤❤ Edit: i still can't quite believe that this movie was the origin of "ya like jazz??" But i can't track it back further. Isn't it weird when that happens?
i'm struggling with the news that "ya like jazz??" has become a thing apparently wholly independent of bee movie, that's such a quintessiantally bee movie meme
Epic bee fact: Stingers are actually a modified ovipositor, an appendage that female bees, wasps and ants use to lay eggs. In stinging individuals like workers and soldiers it’s modified to be a stinger, attached to a poison gland at all, and male drones do not have stingers because they can’t have an ovipositor.
I have never broken the bee movie into those plots like Willie did, but the movie makes a lot more sense after he did. It adds a much needed structure to the movie so that it’s not just absurdity and one off jokes. Great video!
Even if other people have done it - I want to hear YOUR take too. In this world where most things hurt there is never enough distracting content to enjoy ❤ thanks for the content 👏🍿
bees die when they sting because their stingers are barbed and while this is useful when attacking other insects, where the barbs do more damage when they sting the gaps in their exoskeleton, the skin of humans and animals is more elastic and the barbs get caught, so the bee is unable to free itself without ripping its stinger out. do I think that the writers were taking this into account when making the joke about a bee stinging seven other bees? absolutely not.
I have what I suspect may be some answers - I think the honey as mouthwash and hair gel joke is that they use honey for everything - I think the sharpening the stinger is not some preparation of a weapon, but a core part of bee culture to maintain what could be a weapon. It is the way some people practice martial arts for discipline or exercise - draining the stinger may be referring to his beenis (bee cock), and he just calls it the stinger as a euphemism, the same way people say drain the snake - I think while discussing if he should talk to the human lady, he's speaking in bee. Which is their own separate language.
It continues to be wild to me that people most associate Patrick Warburton with his role in Seinfeld. That man was a prominent voice actor in like half of what I watched as a child
I always go into your videos expecting a goofy silly time, but then by the end of it you manage to make very insightful and thoughtful observations that make me think about my life in new ways. I’m excited for your next video 😊
When I was having anxiety attacks that were so bad I had to leave public school and couldn’t sleep in my room because I was too freaked out to be alone, I had convinced my mom to buy this movie for me and watched it nearly every night to bed for at least half a year 😬 I loved this video, really brought me back to the good moments in that time 💖💖💖
I've never seen Bee Movie, and I've never watched a video about it. I vaguely remember the ads for it when it came out, though. So, it's always just kind of lived in my head as that movie where a bee develops unrequited love for a human woman and rides on a windshield as a form of travel. I had NO IDEA there was all ... [gestures confusedly] ... this packed into it.
it's interesting how both the bee movie and Howard the duck (1986) spend an extensive amount of time establishing the world of a humanoid animal species in the first few minutes only to leave it behind for the human world, features a by now infamous interspecies romantic relationship that might be sexual, completely switches genres out of nowhere and has the animalistic protagonist come to the realization that humanity doesn't treat his kind very well. i hope this is intriguing enough to get people to watch Howard the duck.
you could go on a stinging spree if you removed the stinger from a dead bee and used that as a weapon. if a stinger only has enough venom to kill one living thing then you'd sting a bee and then harvest its stinger for your next murder. also was that a reference to huffing petrol in the same clip 38:03
Watching these videos always reminds me of going to the theater with my best friend where she just instantly whipped out knitting needles and a blanket she was working on and just went to town while staring at the movie. I commend the coordination, something I myself have never been able to get to because I'm too anxious about missing a bit lol
I think one of the reasons I enjoy your content so much is because I'm right there with you the overthinking and listening to you ramble means that I can tune out my own overthinking for a little bit to be amused and inspired by the conclusions you come to.
Since you kinda asked what's to like about the thumbnail part: I find it calming way for a video to end, it's like a gradual drop instead of a hard hit into a wall.
This video genuinely had me brimming with joy, I think about movies, shows etc like this too but often feel like I'm pretty isolated in those lines of thought, so hearing someone break it down a lot like I would with dry witty humor is genuinely fun af, I'm not used to it! Thanks for posting man, made my day a lot better.
fun fact about the starting speech about bees and flying. It was started by a dude in 1930s. who kinda just calculated if bees could fly if they flew like planes. And you can perhaps hazard a guess that, bees don't use the same mechanics as planes do. They kinda just create really small air vortices and ride that hurricane. Also bees can count.
I haven’t seen any deep dives on this movie or this movie yet. But this feels like everything I would have ever wanted to know in a much more entertaining package

I’m sure that a) you already knew this or that 2) somebody already said so, but: worker bees are the females. Males are the drones that almost never leave the hive, because they’re constantly serving the queen. Right? That’s a thing I remember from somewhere, and the reason I always say something about “little sister” when helping rescue a honeybee from the swimming pool.
52:14 "...and while I'm not going to sit here and say that I condon bee-stiality..." That may be the worst bee pun I've ever heard... They should give you an award 🐝🏆

Thank you for making this video, I've always felt like there's never truly been enough Bee Movie content on the internet.
You've unlocked a memory of me also having the exact same problem with the bee clothes as a kid, so know that at least you weren't alone in that opening scene ruining the entire movie.
me too!! i remember hating this movie as a kid because even as I was watching it, I was overthinking it 😂
So glad the issues were resolved and we get to enjoy all your hard work!🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝❤❤
Edit: i still can't quite believe that this movie was the origin of "ya like jazz??" But i can't track it back further. Isn't it weird when that happens?
Some might say its 🐝unbeelievable
i'm struggling with the news that "ya like jazz??" has become a thing apparently wholly independent of bee movie, that's such a quintessiantally bee movie meme
So jealous of your knitting skills, I’d be missing so many stitches, I can’t talk and knit! 🙈
I don't think Willie is too worried about missing an occasional stitch 😂
It's really relaxing looking, yet when I've tried I've always rage quit from my incompetence 😂
Barry and co are transmasc confirmed
I have never broken the bee movie into those plots like Willie did, but the movie makes a lot more sense after he did. It adds a much needed structure to the movie so that it’s not just absurdity and one off jokes. Great video!
Woohoo a sponsor! You're moving up in the world. Congratulations! 🎉
Even if other people have done it - I want to hear YOUR take too. In this world where most things hurt there is never enough distracting content to enjoy ❤ thanks for the content 👏🍿
It was nice seeing someone talk about the Bee Movie without focusing on who weird the relationship is for once.
bees die when they sting because their stingers are barbed and while this is useful when attacking other insects, where the barbs do more damage when they sting the gaps in their exoskeleton, the skin of humans and animals is more elastic and the barbs get caught, so the bee is unable to free itself without ripping its stinger out. do I think that the writers were taking this into account when making the joke about a bee stinging seven other bees? absolutely not.
I have what I suspect may be some answers
- I think the honey as mouthwash and hair gel joke is that they use honey for everything
- I think the sharpening the stinger is not some preparation of a weapon, but a core part of bee culture to maintain what could be a weapon. It is the way some people practice martial arts for discipline or exercise
- draining the stinger may be referring to his beenis (bee cock), and he just calls it the stinger as a euphemism, the same way people say drain the snake
- I think while discussing if he should talk to the human lady, he's speaking in bee.

I'm not good at writing comments but- Your videos are so thoughtful and well made. I hope the algorithm gives what you deserve.
Waiting for Willie to make a video longer than the movie hes making it on
When I was having anxiety attacks that were so bad I had to leave public school and couldn’t sleep in my room because I was too freaked out to be alone, I had convinced my mom to buy this movie for me and watched it nearly every night to bed for at least half a year 😬 I loved this video, really brought me back to the good moments in that time 💖💖💖
I've never seen Bee Movie, and I've never watched a video about it.
I just want you to know that this is the only video essay on the Bee movie I have watched. This year. ❤
you could go on a stinging spree if you removed the stinger from a dead bee and used that as a weapon. if a stinger only has enough venom to kill one living thing then you'd sting a bee and then harvest its stinger for your next murder. also was that a reference to huffing petrol in the same clip 38:03
26:17 they should have had him put beeswax in his hair. Wax can be used to style hair while still keeping the bee theme
Commenting for the algorithm, but staying for Willie.... Love ya, Willie!
Watching these videos always reminds me of going to the theater with my best friend where she just instantly whipped out knitting needles and a blanket she was working on and just went to town while staring at the movie.
I commend the coordination, something I myself have never been able to get to because I'm too anxious about missing a bit lol
Haven't watched the video yet but just wanted to say I think this is my favorite thumbnail image of yours so far.
They are all really good and this one is so cute! I love when he makes the thumbnails at the end and the people are scrolling by😊
I think one of the reasons I enjoy your content so much is because I'm right there with you the overthinking and listening to you ramble means that I can tune out my own overthinking for a little bit to be amused and inspired by the conclusions you come to.
So glad you were able to get this through copyright review!
I started listening to this in a grocery store… guess what I forgot to get… HONEY!!! HOW DID I FORGET THE HONEY WHILE WATCHING A BEE MOVIE VIDEO!!!!
fun fact about the starting speech about bees and flying.
I love your deep dives into weird movies I've never heard of but it is equally delightful to hear your unique take on a movie I am actually passingly familiar with
I do love your entire video, but there’s just always something memorable in your closing posing. This one was the “two friends. Me and Barry. Posing with our arms crossed, la La la” XD
I heard the "science doesn't know how bee wings support bee bodies" thing in the 90's
I haven't seen this movie... Now I don't need to! Thank you Willie!
Thank you for the beestiality line. It genuinely made my day, even if it wasn't on purpose ❤
I'm so happy it's finally here. You might not believe it but this video lowered my stress levels significantly. I'm so happy and calm.
It’s like what they say about listening to jazz music lowers your blood pressure.
had a bad day at work. came here to chill and be cheered up by knitting time with willie. thanks for making my day brighter :3
1:09:14 This is the single funniest joke of this movie and even after all these years, I laughed out loud..
Willie, you reveal more information about your inner thoughts to RUclips than I do to my close friends and relatives. It's fascinating and you're very loveable!
i'm picturing an alternate timeline where willie does get the bees shouldn't be able to fly tattoo, someone seeing it, laughing, going "haha bee movie" and then willie's eye widening, saying "WHAT"
i actually really appreciate how you mull over every tiny detail in these videos cuz i really relate to it. if i ever take notes on something im writing down every thing from the subject plus every thought i have
Willy i adore that you went for a yellow black stripe pattern for this video
30:49 I understand sharpening your stinger, I sharpen my nails everyday just in case I have to use them 🤷🏼♂️
This was..... so much more than I could have anticipated.
52:20 The delivery on "Bee-stiality" was absolutely perfect. I consider myself a punster of considerable skill, but you have humbled me. Take me as your student and teach me your power.
I love how the background is becoming this eldritch horror looming over Willie. Knitcholas is also cool.
i remember being forced to watch this movie in middle school with the teacher's excuse of showing how important pollination is (they just didn't wanna teach)
i really hated being made to sit and watch it but i was also older than the target demographic i imagine
You are my favorite person to watch by far. I found you when my knitting special interest was first forming, and now my autistic ass can't stop watching you and knitting lol
Willie Muse dropping a video feels like christmas
I’m sure that a) you already knew this or that 2) somebody already said so, but:
worker bees are the females. Males are the drones that almost never leave the hive, because they’re constantly serving the queen.
Right? That’s a thing I remember from somewhere, and the reason I always say something about “little sister” when helping rescue a honeybee from the swimming pool.
52:14 "...and while I'm not going to sit here and say that I condon bee-stiality..."
That may be the worst bee pun I've ever heard... They should give you an award 🐝🏆
I'm glad someone pointed this out
the pauses that include dead silence make me contemplate so much, this truly is a great video keep up the great work. :D
i have never seen the bee movie before and yes, I am also invested in you as a commentator and a person. love the eventual devolvement into philosophical and existential social commentary, love the sidebars, love it all. and the knitting. very calming
I watched Bee Movie not long after its release, and I was fully on board with the goofy jokes-until the incredibly creepy sexual undertones appeared. And then things got fricking surreal. When I try to remember the actual ending, I just get a smoky recollection of billions of dead flowers.
