@kathyr2792 if you want to reincarnate as a cat. You basically have to be a living saint. As cats are a higher life form to us. Becoming one is a reward for being a really good and perfect living Saint in a previous life. 😂🤣🤣.
@kathyr2792 my cat responds really well to din dins. If I say any D word she whips her head around and stares at me dramatically. If that D word does not end in: IN DINS she glares at me.
We always tied the tree up to the ceiling with a monofilament fishing line. Using the clear line it isn't noticeable and the tree and cats are safe. We also stopped putting breakable ornaments on the tree, but that was more because of the children. We did have a cat that liked to sleep under the tree. He thought the tree skirt was just for him.
That’s such a clever and practical solution! Using fishing line to secure the tree is a great way to keep both the tree and curious cats safe. And it sounds like your cat had the right idea-tree skirts are basically deluxe cat beds, right? Such sweet holiday memories!
This video brought back so many wonderful memories of our tree destroyer! Princess (of all names) was our “wild girl”. She figured out how to climb out my daughter’s window, would go hunting, and would bring back her best catch for Brenda (my daughter, her hooman)! More than once, I would hear Brenda screaming for me to get the critter off her bed-I knew I had better hurry before it ran and hid somewhere! So, we had a huge artificial tree, that you had to put the branches onto. The day after we put it up, I came home from work to an exploded Christmas tree. I could hear her purring from the doorway! When I found her in the tree, her eyes were HUGE and black. She was sprawled out on a couple of still-intact branches. I had NEVER seen her so satisfied-she was completely in her element! For about 10 or 12 years, we had a tree, but it had no lights, balls or decorations-and I put it back together every night!❤ I just couldn’t bear to take away that happiness!❤
Many years ago, I installed permanent eye hooks in the corner where we would put up the tree, and then, once the tree was up, I wound fishing line around the tree, and voila, upright tree all season long, and a happy cat who could climb to her heart’s content. Unbreakable ornaments, of course.
I had my Georgie 15 years & he never once climbed the tree. He would snuggle n the soft skirt underneath & lay there gazing at the lights. So precious. ❤😊
My family's first Christmas with a cat, was the last time we did Christmas with a tree. You could set a watch to every time you heard the tree falling over due a new "mass imbalance issue", or ornaments shattering on the ground. Christmas lights became an OUTSIDE ONLY accessory. unless you enjoy the smell of burnt fur and a pissed off kitty running amok. It was easier to bail on the traditional Christmas than to discipline the cat. I think that was that furry little overlord's long-term endgame. Less money spent on a tree and decorations = more money spent on cat treats and toys. Diabolical. That is a master puppeteer on a Machiavellian level.
Sounds like your cat played the long game and won. Ditching the tree, banning the lights, and redirecting funds to treats and toys? Pure feline genius. They truly are master strategists, and we’re all just living in their world.
Fishing line works great ...anchor it on three sides at least ...the ceiling & on the left & right ....works wonderfully! We anchored with six pieces of invisible line!
Just like my childhood two cats 🤣 They went crazy when my father brought a real firtree in. It was like a catnip for them and of course it was fun to chase all the insects that came along with it and ornaments were all over the house too, especially plastic balls. Yes, both would climb the tree too. It didn't fell though because it was usually tall and well attached to the stand. This happened every Christmas 🎄🐈🐈❤😅
Sounds like your childhood cats had the best Christmas adventures! 😹 Real fir trees must have felt like an enchanted playground for them-catnip vibes, unexpected critters, and shiny ornaments to chase. It’s amazing the tree stayed standing through all that action! Those memories must bring a smile to your face every holiday season.
I have had cats all my life & they never played with tree. From the time they were babies they were trained where they could go & where they couldn't. Training works.🎄🎄
Smart move! Securing the tree with an eye bolt and wire is a foolproof way to outsmart the cats and keep the tree standing. Sounds like a holiday lifesaver-well done!
Oh my God, this is a great video! You gotta love the tree with the three cats in it. Another video has a tree hanging from the ceiling, lol and the cat still managed to jump from the kitchen cupboards onto the hanging tree. L O L thanks! Hilarious!
Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without our cats playing in the tree😊😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤mine has destroyed many in the past fortunately today ornaments are made of plastic material 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mine gets banished from the room the tree is in. No way am I letting him anywhere near glass ornaments and live candles. He is allowed outside where he can climb every tree in the garden if he wants.
I’ve just had to dismantle my Christmas tree on our landing at the top of the stairs, our rescue cat ,who we’ve only had 6 weeks , has knocked the tree down the stairs 3 times already 😂
Sounds like your rescue cat is bringing some *serious* holiday spirit (and a little chaos) to your home! Knocking down the tree 3 times is definitely a record-worthy achievement. Maybe next year, the tree can be 'cat-proofed'-or better yet, just call it a new family tradition!
If you have a cat you might want a heavy tree base and to secure it to the wall or roof with a cord or string and an eyelet or wall anchor. (a string with the color of the wall or ceiling isn't too bad looking) They see trees and many of them have the instinct is to climb and play in it. Old cats are less likely to do this stuff. I forgot, some cats hate peppermint. So you can try to put a little peppermint on the bottom of the tree once a day and see if that works for yours.
Great advice! Securing the tree is definitely a must for households with adventurous cats. And the peppermint trick is an interesting idea-anything to deter the climbing and chaos! Older cats may chill out around the tree, but younger ones? They see a Christmas tree as their playground. Thanks for sharing these tips to keep both the tree and cats safe!
How exciting! Your first Christmas with your new furry family members is going to be so special (and probably a little mischievous too)! Littermates always bring double the love and double the fun. Wishing you all a holiday season filled with purrs, cuddles, and unforgettable memories!
